Bella's POV
"Do you hear that water sound frequently?" I asked the young boy gently, watching as he gave me a hesitant nod.
His small frame seemed even more fragile against the oversized hospital bed his parents had set up in their living room. Obsidian circles shadowed his eyes, and his skin held an unhealthy pallor that made my chest tighten with worry.
"That's very helpful information. Do you enjoy chocolate?" I asked, shifting to a lighter topic.
After spending a considerable amount of time coaxing words from him, he finally offered me a genuine smile, though I could see the suffering lurking beneath his innocent expression.
"Perfect, because I brought you plenty. I also have this new video game that just came out," I said, presenting him with the game console and an entire basket filled with chocolates, cookies, and treats.
