Watching the enraged Torterra unleash its ultimate move, Wrathful Vines, the ground violently split open, and countless writhing vines surged toward Charmeleon.
"Flamethrower! Focus all power on one spot to break through!"
Charmeleon couldn't dodge in time amid the fury and was completely surrounded. Lin Yu shouted the order at once.
Flames blazed forth — pale-white fire, like ghostly flames from the underworld. At that moment, a faint glow flashed over Charmeleon.
Its strength rose to a new level right then and there.
Fire was the natural counter to vines, but Torterra's power was at the Mid-Gym stage.
A Pokémon's energy was something mysterious — it could take form as ice, rock, fire, water…
In a way, it bordered on idealism.
Yet the pale-white flame burned a hole straight through the Wrathful Vines, and Charmeleon burst free.
"What the hell?!"
The Realm Warden had originally planned to intervene. He'd seen the teenager, barely in his teens, recklessly challenge a Gym-class Torterra, and thought the kid was overconfident, needing a humbling lesson.
But he never expected the boy to force out Torterra's ultimate move… and break through it.
Even Scyther struggled to cut through those Wrathful Vines!
"Alright, that's enough — retreat!"
All his Pokémon had enjoyed the fight. Lin Yu decided to stay in this Secret Realm for a few days, dropping by to spar with Torterra every now and then.
He Teleported away immediately.
Through his Aura Sense, he'd already sensed someone watching the area.
"Me?!"
The warden stood dumbfounded. He glanced at the drained but still furious Torterra, then at the spot where Lin Yu had vanished, and wanted to cry.
Torterra had spotted him — and was now redirecting all its rage at him!
"That little troublemaker!"
"Arcanine, Flamethrower!"
Helpless, the warden had his Pokémon battle to calm Torterra down.
Deep in another part of the mountains.
"Whoa, that was intense!"
Lin Yu quickly activated [Forest Friend] to restore his Pokémon's stamina, his face excited.
Charmeleon had reached Level 26, and the swollen whip-marks from the vines were healing visibly.
Frogadier had hit Level 22.
Challenging a higher-tier opponent really paid off!
"Charr!!"
Charmeleon was thrilled.
This was a real opponent!
"Don't worry — we'll come back tomorrow!"
Lin Yu planned to camp out in this Secret Realm for days, and collect treasures along the way.

The next day.
Torterra was a naturally sleepy Pokémon. But after being burned by that strange hot-cold flame yesterday…
it had insomnia.

On the seventh day, Lin Yu was caught and lectured. The Realm Warden had been lying in wait.
After checking Lin Yu's identity, he gave him a thorough scolding.
Watching Lin Yu leave, then looking at the utterly defeated Torterra,
the warden sighed while holding Arcanine's leash.
"Only a first-year high school student? He's got a boundless future ahead of him."
Satisfied, Lin Yu headed for the next Secret Realm.
But on the way…
