Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Bountiful Harvest

The manic expression on Shinichi's face receded like a retreating tide, returning to calm as he turned his gaze to his personal panel.

[Name: Higashino Shinichi]

[Occupation: Ninja Academy Student / Swordsmanship Apprentice]

[Talents: Genius (Blue), Innate Divine Strength (Green), Diligence Makes Up for Lack of Talent (Green), Quick-Witted (Green), Swordsmanship Proficiency (Green), Perception (White)…]

Compared to a week ago, the changes to the panel were nothing short of remarkable.

[Genius (Blue)] went without saying. This was the core prize and most critical victory of this entire scheme, a marker of qualitative transformation.

As for entry upgrades:

Intelligence (White) had upgraded to Quick-Witted (Green), and Swordsmanship Basics (White) had upgraded to Swordsmanship Proficiency (Green).

[Quick-Witted (Green): Your thoughts move like lightning, inspiration surges frequently, and you can swiftly grasp key points while deriving new ideas and solutions.]

This change followed naturally. In the eyes of outsiders, being able to defeat a genius like Kakashi head-on proved that Shinichi himself was also a genius, and genius was often inseparably linked to intelligence.

[Swordsmanship Proficiency (Green): You have surpassed the basics and stepped into the hall of swordsmanship. Not only do you learn and master sword techniques more quickly, you can also create and seize decisive openings more effectively in real combat.]

This was likewise a direct reward for defeating Kakashi. The name of the Konoha White Fang and his reputation as a master of the blade were simply too resounding. Shinichi's clean and decisive victory—using the sword to break the blade before all eyes—created an immense impact in the minds of onlookers.

To overcome the White Fang's blade techniques, even if it was only the swordsmanship displayed by his son, meant that one had undoubtedly reached an extremely high level.

By comparison, [Taijutsu Basics] had failed to upgrade. Perhaps this was precisely the reason—because to some extent, this swordsmanship upgrade had indeed cleverly used the White Fang's illustrious reputation as a stepping stone.

Then there was the newly added entry:

[Perception (White): Your five senses are more acute than those of ordinary people, allowing you to notice sounds from farther away, subtler scents, faster movement trajectories, and other easily overlooked information in your surroundings.]

This was proof that the carefully constructed image of him possessing sensory talent had achieved its first success. The creation of the [Perception] entry meant that the outside world had begun to acknowledge his special aptitude in this area.

Although it was currently only white-tier—enhancing the acuity of the five senses, such as hearing sounds from greater distances, detecting subtler scents, and sharper vision—it was still of considerable help to him. Moreover, it had already laid the groundwork for him to truly possess chakra sensory abilities in the future.

A single victory—many gains.

The newly generated blue core Entry established the highest potential and growth efficiency; the newly advanced green Entries strengthened combat performance in key domains and intellectual advantages; the newly appeared white Entry opened up a new track for auxiliary abilities.

All of these changes tightly revolved around the ripple effects produced by the event of "defeating Kakashi"—it could truly be called a massive windfall.

Shinichi's gaze focused once again on that brand-new blue Entry, [Genius]. In the instant he obtained it, he seemed to feel as though his thinking had been invisibly upgraded.

Knowledge points that in the past required repeated pondering—now, with only a brief review, he could see through to their essence. Certain coarse, taken-for-granted parts of his training that he had once accepted as normal now clearly revealed more optimal paths. He even recalled fragments of the battle with Kakashi, and many ingenious solutions surfaced—ones he had not thought of at the time.

It was not only an improvement in his thinking. Shinichi also discovered that his overall physical qualities and chakra had received a further boost.

Only now did he clearly recognize what the "all domains" mentioned in the [Genius] Entry description truly meant.

In the words of his previous life, this Entry did not merely enhance his comprehension—it also improved his own aptitude and foundational endowment.

"However, the conditions for generating a blue-tier Entry are harsher than expected…"

The Konoha White Fang, Hatake Sakumo, was a hero universally acknowledged by the village, with strength and prestige that even surpassed the Sannin.

His son—that genius Kakashi, already long famed—had very early been placed under a kind of spotlight.

Moreover, Shinichi had secretly bestowed upon him the dazzling halo of "having the bearing of a Hokage." In all of Konoha, almost no one was unaware of it.

The sensation caused by defeating such a target was beyond doubt, yet even so, from the moment the event occurred to the moment the Entry was generated, it still took an entire week of fermentation.

What did that indicate?

It indicated that the birth of a blue Entry not only required an event whose impact spread across the whole of Konohagakure and sparked widespread discussion, but also required depth and intensity—an effect shocking enough.

And it very likely required, to a certain extent, recognition or attention from certain key figures—those with great strength, high status, and central influence—such as the Hokage, the Hokage's aides, the Sannin, the White Fang, the jōnin squad leader, and the heads of the various clans.

Knowing alone was not enough—it had to be certainty, and it had to leave a deep impression.

If blue-tier Entries already required this, then what about Entries above them?

Ones whose influence swept across the entire Land of Fire? Or even shook the consensus of the whole shinobi world?

He did not continue thinking along those lines. Those matters were still far too distant for him at present. The appearance of the blue-tier Entry [Genius] had already cleared away his greatest current obstacle to growth, laying out a high-speed path forward.

Shinichi closed the panel, feeling the more abundant and active chakra within his body, as well as the clearer, more agile flow of thoughts in his mind.

He walked to the window and looked out at the vibrant morning scenery of Konohagakure.

Summer vacation had already begun. An excellent training period—one backed by the perseverance guarantee of [Diligence Makes Up for Lack of Talent] and enhanced by the efficiency boosts of [Genius] and [Quick-Witted]—had arrived.

He needed to plan carefully, transforming this brand-new talent into solid, indisputable strength.

The first step was his status as a Swordsmanship Apprentice.

Shinichi intended to use this more-than-one-month break to formally graduate from Yamashita-sensei's dōjō, cross that threshold, and become a recognized, official swordsman.

Not only that, he also needed to find a way to quietly but widely spread the news that "Higashino Shinichi has completed his apprenticeship and become an official swordsman," thereby allowing the Swordsmanship Apprentice entry in his occupation slot to upgrade to Swordsman.

[Swordsmanship Apprentice: You are an entry-level apprentice who has mastered basic sword postures and force application techniques. Your control over the sword surpasses that of ordinary people, and both your entry speed into swordsmanship training and your overall physical qualities are slightly enhanced.]

The Swordsmanship Apprentice occupation Entry itself already improved some of his physical attributes and his comprehension of swordsmanship. After upgrading to an official swordsman, these benefits would inevitably rise accordingly. All of this would become a solid foundation of his strength.

Finally, when both the [Swordsmanship Apprentice] and [Ninja Academy Student] occupation Entries were generated, they each came with a single opportunity to directly draw a white-tier talent Entry without relying on external factors.

Then, a clear occupational advancement—from "apprentice" to "official swordsman"—would almost certainly also trigger feedback from the panel, granting him another new draw opportunity.

Moreover, the tier of this opportunity would very likely no longer be white, but… green.

A brand-new green-tier Entry, obtainable directly without prolonged accumulation or preparation, would be enough to provide considerable reinforcement or a breakthrough in a particular direction.

His thoughts converged like streams flowing together, clearly reflecting the road ahead.

Shinichi's gaze settled, focused and sharp.
