Chapter 18 - Let the Games BEGIN

Lizzy's eyes widened. The system considered this basic?! She wondered what she would get with a regular package.

{Items Received:}

{[Cloth Baby Diapers x 20 x 2], [Formula x 10 cans x 2], [Basic Crib and Bed Set x 2], [Onesies x 10 x 2], [Maternity Recovery Pill x 1 x 2], [Recovery Meal x 2]}

She quickly pulled out one of the [Maternity Recovery Pill] from her inventory and shifted her hold on the babies so she could shove the pill in her mouth. Lizzy felt strength return to her tired limbs. It felt like her hips were repairing at a joint level and the exhaustion faded.

Looking down at both her son and daughter, she felt a lurch in her heart. How was she expected to allow her children to fight for her? To die for her? There had to be a better way.

Phantom rushed into the room, his pale face lighting up at the sight of her. "Lizzy!" He knelt by the bed, fingers moving to comb through her tangled hair. "I am so happy to see you." A broad smile of relief crossed his face. "You did a great job. Mother Asena says our children have great potential and we should begin training and finding [Beast Shards] that match their element type as soon as possible. I'm very proud."

A warmth suffused Lizzy's chest as she realized how badly she needed the reassurance that she had done a great job. The pride on Phantom's face along with his words proved that she had succeeded in his mind. She turned her thoughts to the [Beast Shards] and dipped her head in acknowledgement. "I have a few already in my inventory but I don't know how to tell which is which."

"I'll help. But first, I want you to eat and rest. Feed the pups. I'll be back with some food." He smiled, reaching out tentative fingers to stroke her cheek. "You look beautiful. You look much healthier than when I last saw you." Something flickered in Phantom's gaze. Almost as if there was an imprint of fear in his gaze before he shuttered his expression and shot her a beaming smile.

Lizzy turned her attention to feeding the pups at her chest while she waited.

Night had fallen when the sound of the system woke Lizzy from her doze. The babes had been transferred to the cribs the system had given her and she was resting comfortably on the clean furs that had been placed on the bed. Even with the use of the [Recovery Pill], Lizzy found that she still carried a persistent ache between her thighs when she moved.

{Congratulations, Contestants! You have survived the trial week of the Games. While we found that many contestants perished, we are pleased to see some of the favorites of The Games have begun to make their mark in their territories.}

Lizzy felt her heart begin to race, all traces of exhaustion fleeing her body. There was a tinkling chime that filled her ears and she paled. A sense of foreboding stabbed her guts.

{Many Gods have already begun to choose their Champions and you may begin to see specific quests or scenarios being handed out by the system. Will you rise or fall? Because everyone has received different classes, there will be NO leaderboard this Game. Your ranking will remain a mystery. Instead, we will begin to announce Achievements through the system and you can use those to determine who is the biggest threat to be eliminated. Have fun and happy hunting!}

Lizzy felt her shoulders fall in relief. Part of her had feared that there would be a ranking system where people could turn those into targets. Since she had only received one achievement so far and it was right before the Games began to share data, she wasn't too worried.

{Ding}

{Achievement Earned!}

{Impress A God. Congratulations, Champion. You have earned the admiration of a God. Hera is impressed by your dedication to your children and the ingenuity of your home. Your skill [Identify] has been upgraded to include the status of your children and potential growth routes. She hopes you can keep those babes alive because the hunt has begun.}

"Fuck." Lizzy whispered. She wasn't expecting to gain the attention of any of the Gods, let alone have the Achievement announced to everyone else. A floating banner passed by her eyes as soon as she closed the blue screen showing she had the attention of a Goddess.

{Congratulations, Lizzy! You have earned an Achievement and gained the attentions of a God!}

Based on the golden glow that framed the words, she knew this had been sent out to every other person in the Games. Now, she had a large target on her back.

Lizzy stood to her feet and tried not to grimace. She moved into the nursery, her fingers trailing over the wood of the crib. Her eyes roamed over her daughter, Naya, and her son, Aran. Both of them slept peacefully, their fingers twitching slightly in their sleep as if they were reaching for something.

{Naya}

{Girl}

{Firstborn of Lizzy, Mother of All.}

{Class: Unassigned}

{Potential: MidTier Earth, Upper Tier Light}

{Possible Classes: LightBearer, Stone Mage, Paladin, Stone Mason...}

Lizzy inhaled sharply. Her identify skill had been upgraded, but she wasn't expecting to see anything more than a name and maybe a class. Being able to see the magic potential for herself as well as the possible classes her children could gain soothed her. She could also see a list of status ailments, with both babes currently reflecting the sleeping status. This could help her keep an eye on any potential issues with both children. She turned her head, examining her son as well.

{Aran}

{Boy}

{Secondborn of Lizzy, Mother of All}

{Class: Unassigned}

{Potential: MidTier Water}

{Possible Classes: Water Mage, River Spirit...}

Lizzy smiled softly, running a finger gently over the cheeks of her children before stumbling back towards her bed. Both of her children had made it to the world safely and even though she was sore, she had gained the attention of a Goddess. Tomorrow would be a better day.
