Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Land of Lightning, Kumogakure

This bloody ambush was like a giant boulder thrown into a calm lake; the ripples it stirred spread rapidly, but were soon swallowed by a wider, colder world.

The Uchiha group of twelve, led by Uchiha Shao Yu, quickly and thoroughly cleared the traces of the battlefield, then continued northward silently, like a stream merging into an icy river.

The atmosphere of this journey was completely different from the past few days.

Although they still maintained necessary vigilance, the tension within the team had noticeably relaxed.

The greatest threat of pursuit, Danzo Shimura and his elite Root, had been heavily damaged and repelled; it was impossible for them to organize an effective pursuit in the short term.

Even if Konoha learned the news immediately, it would be no easy feat to mobilize troops and cross the border to pursue them, let alone send a team more familiar with them, more elite, and more determined to kill than Danzo's.

The road ahead had temporarily become open.

They crossed the final snowfields of the Land of Frost and stepped into the Land of Lightning, a place known for its high mountains, deep canyons, and frequent thunderstorms.

The air here carried a unique chill and a faint hint of electricity; the sky was often overcast, and the sound of rolling thunder could be heard in the distance.

Though the environment was treacherous, it gave these Uchiha who had just experienced a life-and-death escape a strange sense of security.

They had finally completely left the Land of Fire's sphere of influence and arrived at a new, powerful nation that was somewhat hostile toward Konoha.

The journey no longer required traveling day and night in a desperate flight. They could arrange for rest and recovery more reasonably, and even conduct some basic physical and Ninjutsu training while ensuring safety.

Uchiha Rei's Medical Ninjutsu was fully utilized, and the lightly injured were quickly healed.

Shisui also gradually recovered from the tension of the past few days, and his small face regained the vitality of a child; although he remained taciturn, the reliance and trust in his eyes toward his brother and clansmen grew deeper.

Uchiha Shao Yu seized every moment to continue recovering from the exhaustion of taming Shikigami and activating Susanoo, using Circular Deer's healing power to nourish himself and his clansmen.

On the other hand, during this period, he had tamed the remaining two Shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique besides Mahoraga: Piercing Ox and Tiger Burial.

Tiger Burial truly gave Uchiha Shao Yu a surprise.

This Shikigami, which did not appear in the original work, showed strength that had completely reached the Kage-level during Uchiha Shao Yu's taming ritual, and many of its moves were of the large-scale variety.

The threat it posed to Shao Yu was far greater than that of Danzo before, nearly causing Shao Yu to fail.

During the battle, Shao Yu mastered the 'Azure' of the Six Eyes at his limit, which allowed him to successfully tame it.

Tiger Burial.

It presented a highly oppressive hybrid form of human and tiger.

Its head was that of a complete, ferocious tiger, with sharp stripes and pupils as cold as blades; Cursed Seal patterns were faintly visible on its forehead, and its facial muscles were taut as if ready to tear prey apart at any moment.

Its torso was covered in knotted muscles, with skin texture as rough as tiger hide; a complex Cursed Technique array was engraved in the center of its chest, with violent Cursed Energy flowing through every line.

Its arms and legs were covered in thick tiger fur, its claws were sharp as blades, and bone spurs grew at its joints.

Its lower body was only wrapped in loose black trousers, tied casually at the waist with white cloth strips, the fabric pulled tight by the tension of its muscles.

Holding dual blades, it could also freely traverse through shadows.

It was truly worthy of being the strongest Shikigami besides Mahoraga.

The current Shao Yu could easily deal with Danzo if he came again, rather than feeling slightly exhausted like before... After several days of travel, the towering and steep outer mountains of Kumogakure were finally in sight.

The massive mountain had been carved into layers upon layers of fortresses and buildings that pierced the clouds. Mist swirled between them, and lightning occasionally tore through the cloud layer, illuminating the hard rocks and steel-like architectural silhouettes, appearing rugged, powerful, and full of strength.

The scent of Lightning-attribute Chakra permeating the air became increasingly dense.

"We've finally arrived."

Uchiha Renka looked at the iconic Thunder Tower built on the high peak in the distance and let out a long sigh of relief, his eyes containing both expectation for the future and a hint of solemnity about entering unknown territory.

"Stay sharp."

Uchiha Shao Yu said in a deep voice, "The upcoming negotiation is the key. Remember what we discussed."

"Yes!"

Everyone responded in unison, straightening their clothes and concealing the fatigue of their long journey, their gazes becoming sharp once more.

They followed the mountain path opened by the authorities and soon arrived before Kumogakure's massive, heavy steel gates inlaid with lightning patterns.

The gates were wide open, but both sides were guarded by Kumogakure Ninja wearing dark vests, with dark skin, sturdy muscles, and sharp eyes.

These guards had powerful auras and were strictly disciplined, clearly not ordinary gatekeepers.

"Halt! Who are you? Which Village are you from? What is your purpose?"

An older guard on the left with a scar on his face asked in a deep voice, his gaze like lightning as it swept over the group, lingering for a moment on Uchiha Shao Yu and Renka, who had the most outstanding temperaments.

He noticed that although these people seemed slightly tired, their eyes were calm and their auras refined; they were definitely not ordinary travelers.

It was a time of war, and although Kumogakure had not participated much in this Second Great Ninja War, they still had to be cautious; their nerves were constantly on edge.

According to the prior arrangement, Uchiha Renka took a step forward and nodded slightly in greeting, his tone calm and clear.

"We are the Uchiha Clan from Konohagakure. We have important matters to discuss with the Third Raikage."

As he spoke, with a slight thought, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan instantly activated in both his eyes.

The crimson background and the slowly spinning tomoe emitted a unique and soul-stirring light under the slightly gloomy sky.

"Sharingan?!"

The two guards gasped almost simultaneously, their expressions changing drastically.

As Kumogakure Ninja who had fought Konoha many times, how could they not recognize this world-renowned Bloodline Limit?

The Three-Tomoe Sharingan in particular belonged to the elites even within the Uchiha Clan.

From the Konoha Uchiha? Seeking an audience with the Raikage? And directly revealing the Sharingan.

This news was so shocking that even the two experienced guards were momentarily dazed.

Had the Uchiha Clan defected? Or were they messengers sent by Konoha? Either way, it was definitely a major event enough to shake the Village.

The older guard was the first to react; he stared intently at Renka's Sharingan, then quickly scanned the group behind him, which was calm but clearly led by that young black-haired man. His suspicions grew even more when he saw a young boy in the team.

Why bring a child... "The Uchiha Clan... seeking an audience with the Raikage?"

The older guard's voice was solemn, carrying a hint of disbelief as he confirmed.

"The matter is of great importance and must be spoken to the Raikage in person,"

Renka said.

"We come in good faith and are willing to wait under your Village's supervision."

Uchiha Shao Yu nodded slightly, stepped forward half a pace, and looked at the guards with a calm gaze.

He did not activate the Mangekyo, but his composed demeanor as a powerhouse and the depth in his eyes made the two guards feel an invisible pressure.

"Tell the Raikage that the Uchiha have brought sincerity and strength. This is an opportunity regarding Konoha, and also regarding the future of Kumogakure."

Shao Yu's voice was not high, yet it carried a strange penetrating power and persuasiveness.

"If he does not see us, we will turn and leave. But I think the Raikage will not miss this opportunity, nor will he turn talent away."

The two guards looked at each other, both seeing the shock and solemnity in the other's eyes. This was something they absolutely could not decide on their own.

"Wait here, do not move!"

The older guard gave his companion a look, telling him to monitor them closely, then said a word to Uchiha Shao Yu and the others before turning without hesitation and racing toward the Raikage Office building inside the Village at top speed.

He had to report this news immediately to the Raikage, or at least to an Advisor who could make a decision.

The remaining guard tightly gripped the hilt of the blade at his waist, his eyes scanning the Uchiha group warily. Although the other party seemed to have no ill intent, the name of the Uchiha and the Sharingan left him no choice but to be extremely careful.

Uchiha Shao Yu and the others stood quietly in place, allowing the other party to scrutinize them.

They knew that the first hurdle was considered passed. Next, it would depend on how that Third Raikage, known for his bravery and decisiveness, would respond.

Sacrificing thirteen hundred elites from other families was certainly heart-wrenching, but compared to the growth of the Uchiha Clan, it was all worth it.

The losses of those Ninja clans could be compensated with resources and status in the future, but once the Uchiha grew too powerful, it would be irreversible.

He picked up the intelligence report and slowly brought it close to the candle flame, watching the paper be consumed by the fire and turn into ashes.

The firelight reflected on his aged face; there was no hint of pity in his eyes, only the coldness and calculation of a politician.

"Fugaku, don't blame me for being heartless," he muttered to himself. "If you must blame someone, blame your Uchiha for being too strong—so strong that everyone has to be on guard against you."

The sound of a guard's footsteps came from outside the door. Hiruzen Sarutobi suppressed his complex emotions and handed out the support order, his tone regaining its usual majesty: "Immediately order the various Ninja clans to assemble within three days. There must be no delay!"

The guard took the order and left, and silence fell over the office once more.

Hiruzen Sarutobi leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes wearily, but his mind was filled with the Crimson Sharingan of the Uchiha Clan and Uchiha Xia Yin's face, which seemed cynical but was actually unfathomable.

He had a premonition that this matter would likely not end so easily, and that kid, Uchiha Xia Yin, would sooner or later become Konoha's greatest variable.

The battlefield where the Hidden Mist and Konoha clashed had long since turned into a living hell.

Dilapidated walls teetered amidst the artillery fire, dark red blood soaked the scorched earth, and the roar of clashing Ninjutsu, the screams of the dying, and the sharp ring of clashing blades intertwined; the pervasive gunpowder smoke made it impossible to breathe.

In an abandoned trench at the edge of the battlefield, several dark figures lay in wait, blending into the surrounding scorched earth—it was Uchiha Xia Yin and his group.

Shine crouched at the bottom of the trench, wearing a set of pure black combat gear with dark silver patterns sewn onto the collar and cuffs—the signature attire of Root Ninja, with even the coarse texture of the fabric imitated to perfection.

He wore a Faceless Black Iron Mask, revealing only a pair of Crimson Mangekyo Sharingan, which were coldly scanning the battlefield through the slits in the mask.

He held a crumpled slip of paper in his hand, which contained a list jointly drawn up by his father, Senba, and Elder Setsuna; every name was marked with 'Loyal to the Family' or'Savable.'

"Hiruzen Sarutobi's order? Nothing but a scrap of paper," he sneered quietly, his voice filtered by the mask into a raspy, muffled tone, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.

Asking him to support the battlefield, to risk his life for Konoha, and conveniently watch his clansmen be consumed by the flames of war? It was pure wishful thinking.

His purpose for this trip had never been for Konoha, but to pull those clansmen who still held the Uchiha in their hearts—rather than being loyal only to Konoha—back from the brink of death.

Behind him, Uchiha Yan, Chi, Genki, Qi, as well as the sisters Hien and Crimson, were also dressed in Root attire, wearing identical masks, their auras suppressed as if they were dead.

These six were all Elite Jōnin of the Uchiha Clan, each experienced and powerful in combat—Yan excelled in Taijutsu and Fire Release, with staggering explosive power;

Chi was proficient in Medical Ninjutsu and tracking, able to quickly stabilize the injuries of those near death;

Genki and Qi's Genjutsu and Body Flicker Technique complemented each other perfectly, excelling in containment and cover;

The sisters Hien and Crimson were a rare duo, specializing in traps and perception, capable of perfectly shielding against surrounding Chakra detection.

"My Lord, on the eastern battlefield, Uchiha Night of Power is being besieged by three Kirigakure Ninja; his left arm is injured, and his Chakra is more than half depleted," Crimson's voice came from behind her mask. Her perception covered most of the battlefield, allowing her to accurately capture the targets' movements. "According to the list, he falls under the'Savable' category. Both his parents are Uchiha Clan Members, and he has a strong sense of belonging to the Family."

Shine's Mangekyo instantly locked onto the eastern battlefield.

He saw an Uchiha Ninja driven to a corner by three Kirigakure Ninja. His left arm was dripping with blood, and his Sharingan was already in the Two-Tomoe state, but he was no match for the three attackers. He was hit in the chest by a Water Release technique, spat out a mouthful of blood, and his body slumped down.

Seeing this, the Kirigakure Ninja grinned cruelly and raised their ninja swords, prepared to sever his head.

"Move," Shine's command was concise and decisive.

Before his voice had even faded, the figures of Genki and Qi had already darted out like ghosts, their Three-Tomoe Sharingan lighting up simultaneously: "Genjutsu: Bringer-of-Darkness Technique!"

Instantly, that area fell into absolute darkness, and the Kirigakure Ninja's movements came to an abrupt halt.

Yan followed closely behind, blasting out a Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique to force back the Kirigakure Ninja who tried to resist, while simultaneously kicking away the ninja sword of the foremost Ninja.

Chi quickly rushed to Night of Power's side, condensing medical Chakra at his fingertips to temporarily seal his wounds, then hoisted him up and retreated toward the trench.

The entire process took less than five breaths, so fast that people couldn't react in time.

By the time the Kirigakure Ninja broke free from the Genjutsu, they only saw a few black figures disappearing at the edge of the battlefield. They hadn't even seen the others' faces clearly, only remembering that familiar Root attire.

"Are they Konoha's Anbu? Why would they be here?" a Kirigakure Ninja muttered to himself, his face full of confusion and wariness.

Shine watched as Chi brought Night of Power back to the trench, his eyes showing no ripple of emotion.

"Hien, set up Root tracking markers using their usual Yin Release Chakra residue," he instructed. "Crimson, clean up the Chakra traces we left behind; don't let anyone see any flaws."

Hien nodded, pulled out several specially made Black Tokens from her robe, and condensed a faint Yin Release Chakra at her fingertips, embedding the tokens into the soil around the battlefield—these were markers commonly used by Root when performing secret missions, and the fluctuations of the Yin Release Chakra were identical to those of Root Ninja.

Crimson then formed hand seals, and Wind Release: Fine Wind Technique quietly unfolded, blowing away the Chakra aura they left behind while covering their retreating footprints with scorched earth.

"My Lord, why frame Danzo's Root?" Chi asked curiously while treating Night of Power's injuries.

In his view, they could just save the person and bring them back to the base; there was no need for this extra step.

A cold arc curled at the corner of Shine's mouth, and the look in his eyes under the mask was cunning and fierce: "Danzo's Root is already notorious, stopping at nothing when it comes to assassination and abduction.

Letting both the Hidden Mist and Konoha think that it was Root who abducted the Uchiha Ninja on the battlefield will not only hide our identity but also let Danzo take the fall—Hiruzen Sarutobi is already wary of Root. Once this news spreads, it will inevitably intensify the internal strife within the Konoha High Command, and we can just sit back and reap the benefits."

He paused and added, "More importantly, with these clansmen being 'abducted' by Root, the Konoha High Command will only think that Danzo wants to seize the Sharingan and won't suspect us. Once they recover at the base and awaken even stronger power, they will become the capital for our Uchiha's counterattack."
