Chapter 3 - Breakfast

I woke to the soft chirping of birds, the gentle dim morning light seeping through the curtains, painting faint streaks of gold across the room.

Sitting up, I gently rubbed my eyes, still half asleep before remembering.

"Oh right, I have class at 8 am today." I murmured to myself, yawning.

Flashes of yesterday's events occasionally flickering through my mind like old film frames, but I pushed them aside, it must've been just a dream anyways.

And so I got off of my bed, walked towards the window in my room and swiped the curtains to the sides before opening my windows at which, the still early rising sun immediately came into view.

Everything seemed normal, too normal. It was as if nothing from yesterday had happened. That girl's appearance, the sudden reality-warping scenes that occasionally flashed through my thoughts in the form of memories.

Figuring I had to prepare myself for my first day in college, I walked out of my room, descending the staircase of a house that was too big for me.

As I made my way to the bathroom, I noticed how quiet the house was, the creaking of the floorboards every time I took a step, the sound of the wall clock ticking on the hallway. It almost made me think that everything that happened yesterday was just out of exhaustion.

Or at least, that's what I tried to convince myself, but as I walked by the kitchen, I saw a familiar figure. Her figure, which immediately made me take a step back and stare at her, cooking breakfast like some sort of housewife.

A faint sizzle of eggs being fried reached my ears, followed by the faint smell of something sweet. And there she was-

"... she's beautiful..." I thought to myself, looking at her back from head to toe, how her clothes showcased her shoulders perfectly, how utterly ethereal she was as she flipped those pancakes like she was an actual chef.

Catching myself ogling her for too long, I shook my head and just went straight into the bathroom, not wanting to deal with whatever she was doing or her antics if I tried to interact with her now.

-Minutes later-

After taking a bath and getting into my clothes for the day, I went back down from my room, my bag in hand. But just as I was about to grab the doorknob, a soft pair of hands suddenly grabbed me by my shoulders and started dragging me back into the kitchen before forcing me to sit down on the table.

It was her, and for some reason... There was a scowl on her face, or a pout, rather.

"Do you normally go to school without eating breakfast?" She scolded, before sitting down on the chair opposite to me, crossing her arms as she looked at me like I her stubborn son.

"How do you expect to go to school without eating anything, huh?" She continued, now sounding like an actual mother rather than some random anomaly who decided to barge into my life and suddenly started to act like she was my guardian.

Strange, but either way, I didn't have the energy to start something with her- not with how early it still was, also considering how scary she'd be if I pissed her off now, especially after... Those from yesterday.

"I normally don't eat breakfast before going to school," I explained bluntly, I didn't have the energy for another drama this early, so I just ate. "is that an issue?"

"..." Weirdly enough, that seemed to make her go silent- well, that was until I glanced at her way. She wasn't just silent, she was silently pissed, that was what.

"Is that so?" She mused, her smile not reaching her eyes, her hands gently putting down her fork as she let out a small breath.

"You're going to ruin yourself if you continue with that routine." The air around her calmed down, once raging to burst out in full force was now just a still calm, more concerned than angered.

She wasn't human-that much I was sure of. But right now, with that quiet concern softening her expression, she looked more human than most people I'd known. It was unsettling, almost comforting, and I hated that I couldn't tell which.

I had to constantly remind myself that she wasn't one of us. Nor was she below, in fact, she might even be above all of humanity. In terms of powers, at least.

I gently shook my head, trying to scoff at her attempts at mimicking human care. Yet, I couldn't bring myself to completely reject her, not with how genuine she seemed.

"Fine, I'll start eating breakfast from now on, will that satisfy you?" I meant so sound rude, but my voice faltered instead.

She just nodded in reply, beaming at me like she just won a prize. In moments like these, it was hard to keep reminding myself that this was probably just an act, and if it continued, I might just forget about that fact completely.

As I was about to finish eating, I stole a glance at her, only to realize that she's been watching me with that look of adoration in her face. Soft, gently, almost similar to those in your typical romance series.

As I packed up to leave for class, I could feel her eyes on my back-calm, watchful, unreadable. For some reason, the thought that she'd be w

aiting when I got home both comforted and terrified me.
