Beyond the spatial rift lay a vast plane that the indigenous inhabitants revered as the "Holy Continent."
The dominant civilization of this continent was a peculiar intelligent species known as the holy servants. They possessed long, sharp limbs like those of a praying mantis, covered in fine, resilient scales like a lizard's, and walked upright.
According to the myths passed down through generations of holy servants, the Creator God once split the chaos with the scythe of his supreme divine power, giving birth to this sacred land.
Naturally attuned to the wind element, they could command the power of gales. Legend held that the Creator God himself had used wind to open the gates to other worlds.
Though the Creator God had long since vanished, the ultimate proof of his existence—the World Gate that connected to otherworlds—remained. This gate became the spiritual core and source of power for the entire Holy Continent.
Over the vast river of time, the Holy Continent had endured numerous invasions from foreign worlds.
Yet, thanks to the holy servants' formidable individual combat power, their profound mastery of the wind's rules, and their overwhelming numbers, all invaders ultimately returned in defeat, their remains becoming nutrients to nourish the land.
By devouring the resources of these foreign worlds, four new divine beings emerged on the Holy Continent after the Creator God's disappearance: the Blade God, who wields cutting and sharpness; the Raging Wind God, who commands the atmosphere and flowing winds; the Sudden Blade God, who dominates speed and surprise attacks; and the Wind Spirit God, who embodies the wind elves and change itself.
These four divine beings established the Four Great Empires, each named after their divine titles, around the World Gate left by the Creator God, jointly ruling the continent.
The holy servants respectfully refer to these four divine beings as the "Holy Gods."
Below the Holy Gods are those powerful beings whose strength has reached the pinnacle of cultivation, just one step away from igniting the divine fire and ascending to godhood. These individuals are honored as "holy spirit."
In the Blade Empire, within a private training ground belonging to a peak-stage holy spirit,
A sharp sword wind tore through the air, emitting a piercing whistle.
A holy spirit was practicing martial arts. Bone blades extending from his outer arms blurred into an almost imperceptible phantom. Each strike drew upon surrounding wind power, creating countless dense and deadly vortices of air.
His sword technique had reached perfection, representing the pinnacle of the sword dao for the Holy Servant race.
After a moment, the holy spirit slowly withdrew his stance, retracting the blade-like limbs into his arm guards.
An elder Holy Servant rushed in, his face contorted with barely suppressed fury. "elder brother! The empire's high council has just decided that our lineage will host this year's fifty-year World Gate Festival!"
As holy spirit, they held esteemed positions within the empire, wielding the authority to establish walled cities and even subordinate nations.
The Holy Servant who had come to deliver this news was the holy spirit's own younger brother. Though over a decade his junior, his limited innate talent had left him appearing even older than his elder brother.
The Holy Continent had currently identified four conquerable otherworld. The World Gate opened once every ten years, connecting to one of these worlds in rotation.
Each opening was led by a holy spirit-led faction, tasked with plundering resources. Every such opening was a veritable feast for the Taotie.
However, after all four worlds had been cycled through—a period of fifty years—a "celebration" would occur.
During the celebration year, the World Gate remained closed. Instead, it underwent a "rest" period according to the divine oracles of the Four Great Gods, supposedly to repair the damage accumulated from frequent openings.
For ordinary holy servants, this was a festival of revelry. But for the faction designated to host the celebration, it meant immense losses—they were barred from plundering and forced to personally fund vast quantities of rare resources to "reinforce" the World Gate.
The old Holy Servant's anger stemmed from this very source.
His voice trembled with agitation. "They clearly can't stand to see elder brother advance further! You're already the most top-rank among all holy spirit. If you gain the benefits from a few more otherworld conquests, you might..."
He lowered his voice, a mix of anticipation and resentment in his tone. "...you might just condense a divine personality and become the fifth Holy God! This is something the Four Great Empires—no, even those four Majesties themselves—would never want to see!"
Before he could finish, the holy spirit before him moved like a ghost, a hand covered in fine scales gently covering his mouth.
The holy spirit shook his head, his eyes deep and calm.
The trials of eons had long since taught him to see through the treacherous currents of power.
"Speak cautiously. The might of divine beings is not something you or I can presume to gauge," he said, releasing his hand with a detached tone. "The more they act this way, the more it shows their apprehension. It's fine. For me, ordinary resources have little use now. Let them revel in their fleeting triumph for this decade. In the next, we'll plan our schemes for another world."
The old Holy Servant took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his anger. He nodded in deep agreement.
At the holy spirit's command, dozens of walled cities under its dominion swiftly mobilized.
A massive army began to assemble, marching in a vast, imposing procession toward the World Gate at the center of the continent, where the Four Great Empires converged.
They were not alone. Hundreds of millions of holy servants and tens of thousands of holy spirit from across the Holy Continent surged toward the site, participating in this quinquennial grand festival.
Though no plundering would occur this year, the four Holy Gods themselves would personally descend.
This alone was sufficient reason for all holy spirit to attend, pay their respects, and offer congratulations.
Six months later, at the World Gate altar.
The colossal altar stood at the heart of the plain, surrounded by a sea of holy servants.
The air thundered with clamor, prayers, and hymns.
As the ritual progressed, four massive, storm-eye-like cloud vortexes slowly rotated in the sky, radiating an oppressive, divine aura.
Witnessing this, all the creatures present grew even more excited and boisterous—it was a sign that the four Holy Gods had turned their gaze upon them.
Above the altar, the previously empty space began to warp.
A faint black fissure silently appeared, then spread outward like a living thing!
Finally, it transformed into a colossal, earth-shattering black rift that spanned heaven and earth, after which it stabilized.
A perfect, circular, pitch-black void of immeasurable diameter formed.
According to tradition, the void should have revealed a scene from the otherworld at this point.
But this year, the year of the celebration, only a profound, void-like darkness lay beyond the void, signaling that the passage had not truly opened.
The peak-stage holy spirit, with his younger brother still looking somewhat dejected, directed his subordinates to transport mountains of rare materials onto the sacrificial altar.
Once the four divine beings gave the command, the ritual would commence, transforming these resources into the power needed to stabilize the World Gate.
Just as a Holy God's divine sense was about to declare the official start of the celebration...
An anomaly occurred!
The center of the void, which should have been a void of darkness, suddenly rippled violently like the surface of water!
In the next moment, a colossal fist, covered in what looked like flowing black metal, burst forth from the depths of the void!
Then came a second!
The two giant hands gripped the edges of the void, as if trying to force the "gate" open by sheer force.
Before the stunned eyes of a hundred million holy servants, two colossal figures, each towering like a mountain and covered in a skin of flowing black metal, stepped through the World Gate. Their eyes burned with eerie blue flames.
A terrifying aura radiated from them—one of coldness, chaos, and utter incompatibility with the Holy Continent.
Atop the head of the leading Black Giant stood a figure who casually reached out to stroke the spatial scars left by their forced transmigration through the unstable portal. The wounds healed before the eyes, closing at an visible rate.
He looked down at the Holy Servant army spread out below like an endless ocean, and at the four swirling storm vortices in the sky, each representing a divine being. A cold smile curled his lips.
"So this is another world?" Jieming's voice, though soft, carried clearly across the now-silent altar surroundings. "What a... grand welcome."
As he spoke, the Black Giant beneath him roared silently at the heavens.
The flames in its eyes surged like ignited beacon fires, announcing the bloody dawn of the wizard civilization's expedition upon this "divine" land.
Time rewound to a few minutes before the spatial gate fully opened.
On the Void Domain Plane, the wizard legion, centered around the floating city, stood in battle formation, fully prepared.
Energy light flowed through countless wizardry apparatus and war golems, and a murderous aura permeated the air.
Even Dionysius Spencer, a seventh-tier wizard, could not predict what world lay beyond the gate. Apart from this forcibly opened rift, the two planes had never been connected before.
Jieming stood near the front of the formation, his gaze fixed on the spatial channel as it gradually transformed from an irregular rift into a perfect circle.
Deep within his pupils, runes faintly flickered, analyzing the changes in the spatial structure.
"So that's how it is..." he thought to himself, his previous hypothesis overturned.
He had initially assumed this was merely a natural space distortion caused by the extreme concentration of wind elements in the Void Domain Plane—a phenomenon not uncommon in the multiverse.
But the circular passage before them, now nearing stability and taking on a regular shape, bore unmistakable marks of artificial carving.
"This isn't a rift... it's a 'door'!" Jieming immediately recognized the gravity of the situation.
A natural rift might simply mean the other side had discovered this place and chosen to remain hidden due to insufficient strength.
But an artificial space gate indicated that the civilization beyond likely possessed the technology for interplanar travel, with unfathomable depth of power and resources!
Considering that no native intelligent civilization had yet been discovered on the Void Domain Plane, the builders of this gate undoubtedly hailed from the other side.
This realization instantly elevated the perceived threat level in Jieming's mind.
He subtly retreated a step, positioning the other wizards in front of him.
Just then, Dionysius Spencer's clear, calm voice resonated from the top of the floating city, echoing in the ears of every wizard: "Spatial fluctuations have reached their peak. The passage's stability is entering a brief window. Vanguard Legion, advance!"
