No one knew what had happened. All they knew was that after that moment, the stars vanished from the sky.
Only a few senior priests, through their connection with the divine beings, seemed to grasp what had occurred in that instant, but they remained tight-lipped about it.
"Are we just going to stand by and watch them ravage our world?!"
A towering knight slammed his fist into the ground, shattering the nearby rock into fragments.
"Calm down..."
"How can I calm down? Do you have a way to deal with these invaders?!"
"I do."
The priest spoke again, drawing everyone's attention.
"Oswald, this isn't a joke. Do you really have a way to prevent those creatures from escaping?!" A shaman couldn't help but stand up.
But skepticism lingered. "How is that possible? Spatial abilities are required to contain them. Do you...?"
"I do," Oswald the priest interrupted, silencing the doubter. "I also possess spatial abilities."
As he spoke, Oswald pointed at a knight standing nearby. Under the stunned gazes of everyone present, the knight suddenly vanished, only to reappear abruptly on the opposite side of the tent.
Apparently, Oswald hadn't fully mastered his power. Even the physically formidable knight couldn't help but collapse to his knees and vomit after the teleportation.
But the others in the tent had no time to attend to the disheveled knight. Their gazes, filled with shock, anger, or greed, all turned toward Oswald.
"How could you possess such power?!" the female knight demanded.
A priest beside her reacted even more directly, seizing his scepter. A faint light emanated from his body, as if he were poised to attack at any moment.
"You stole the power of the divine beings?! Blasphemer!"
"Don't be so shocked," Oswald replied calmly. "This isn't stolen power. It was a gift from my divine being before its disappearance, given to me so that one day I might wield it as a force for vengeance."
Oswald glanced at the stunned priest, showing no sign of resistance. He lowered his head, gazing sorrowfully at his own palm.
"This..."
Hearing this, the originally furious priests exchanged glances, unsure of what to say.
"Alright, alright! Our world has already come to this. Let's all try to understand each other..."
An elderly shaman immediately stood up to calm the crowd. The priests, seizing the opportunity to back down gracefully, abandoned their battle-ready stances.
After the brief commotion, everyone settled back around the fire, their expressions noticeably improved.
"Though I haven't fully mastered this power yet, I can create a field that prevents them from using spatial abilities," Oswald declared, setting clear his limitations.
"That's enough!"
"As long as we can trap those bastards, the rest will be easy!"
"Excellent. Now we need a plan to gather those wizard apprentices together," the scarred knight commander rapped the table, producing a dull thud. "We've contacted everyone we could and assembled a considerable number of warriors. Over the years, we've also learned from our mistakes and studied their weaknesses."
He unfurled a crude map drawn on animal hide. "According to our investigations, these Outlanders will stop at nothing to obtain those glowing 'merit tokens.' Our scouts have spent considerable time collecting many tokens that were either lost by the wizards or remained undiscovered."
With a wave of his hand, several warriors dumped a pile of merit tokens, each shimmering with different colors, onto the ground.
"These are our bait!" A ruthless glint flashed in the scarred knight commander's eyes. "We will scatter these merit tokens across various strategic locations, especially the entrances to treacherous valleys, the edges of forests, and deep within caves."
"My plan is simple: use these tokens as bait to lure the wizard apprentices."
"A small group of warriors will serve as the initial contact force, drawing the apprentices deeper into our territory and exhausting their strength. Then, Oswald will set up traps in suitable terrain to systematically eliminate the apprentices one by one!"
"The wizards' power is finite," the shaman leader added. "They cannot sustain those powerful spells for long! Once their magic is depleted and the energy in their Magical Artifacts is exhausted, they'll be no different from ordinary humans!"
"Our first step is to reduce their numbers as much as possible," the scarred knight commander said, his voice darkening with ruthless intent. "That way, even if they sense danger and try to band together, it will be too late."
"When necessary, we can mobilize our full force. With overwhelming numerical superiority, we'll crush every apprentice who enters our plane like insects!"
"For years, those wizards have been plundering everything from our plane," a young warrior added bitterly. "I want to reclaim what's rightfully ours!"
"Exactly! We won't just seek revenge—we'll take back everything that belongs to us!" The atmosphere in the council hall ignited, every eye burning with the flames of vengeance.
"The only problem now is how to ensure the wizard apprentices don't flee when they sense danger, but instead band together and attack," Oswald murmured, his voice like a bucket of cold water dousing the fiery fervor. "Until they enter the spatial blockade I've set up, the initiative remains in their hands."
"To address this issue, we must approach it from two angles," the scarred knight commander said, lowering his head in thought. "First, we need bait—something enticing enough to ignite their greed. For this, we'll deploy more warriors to search for these tokens!"
"Secondly, we must make the wizard apprentices underestimate our combat capabilities, reducing their sense of threat."
"We can divide our forces into several battle clusters. Smaller clusters will handle ambushes and luring tactics, while larger clusters will serve as reserves, ready to reinforce as needed. Once we detect the wizard apprentices' movements, we'll launch immediate attacks," the shaman leader declared, slamming his bone staff heavily against the ground.
"We're not seeking a swift victory, but rather to completely exhaust their strength before reaping their lives. This approach will also mislead the wizard apprentices about our true numbers..."
With a concrete plan in place, the group erupted into enthusiastic discussion.
"Our objective: leave no survivors!"
Finally, the scarred knight commander rose, his gaze sweeping across every face in the room before settling on the crude map illuminated by the firelight. "This world shall be their tomb!"
The warriors roared their approval, but amidst the fervent atmosphere, Oswald's smile seemed particularly unsettling.
