Chapter 3 - Soul Instruments

There was a monitor screen nearby.

The instrumentalist began going through it

when she gasped.

"What is it?" Asked Miss Yuzu

"You both have the painter soul but

your soul is weirdly too overpowered and

you and your sister have the same type

of ability which isn't weird for twins but

oddly enough, your ability doesn't have

a limit rule like others." Explained the Instrumentalist

"This is amazing. These two are quite exceptional"

exclaimed Miss Yuzu.

Nanakou gave me a questioning look.

The Instrumentalist caught a glance of our

faces.

"What I meant is normal people don't have

as much soul energy as you."

I glanced at Nanakou to find her with a

huge smile plastered across her face.

She always enjoyed finding out she's better

than someone at something. Especially me.

"That's good to hear." she said

"And you said only we have a screw loose"

muttered to Instrumentalint loud enough for

everyone to hear.

She continued. "As for the limit rule, they

are like the rule of the type, size and

structure of an artist's art but your

ability doesn't to have these."

"Is it a problem?" I asked

The instrumentalist shook her head. "No, it's rather a strength. You have the normal energy consumption rule which states that the larger and more complex the art the more soul it consumes"

I have to make sure to remember that rule.

"How long will it take to make our soul

instruments." I asked.

"Oh that, I'll only take like 5 minutes

for each of you so 10 minutes max plus

my sisters so 15 minutes." she answered.

"I didn't come here because of my instrument."

said Miss Yuzu.

"I know that but I could tell your instrument

needed some fine tuning when I saw you use

it 2 days ago." She responded.

She was able to tell whether someone's tool

needed fine tuning just by looking at it?

She must have immense skill and to do

all this work in 15 minutes. It's crazy.

"Well, time to get to work." exclaimed the

instrumentalist.

15 minutes later...

Our soul instruments were ready.

"Here you go" she said handing use our

instruments.

Mine was a pen with an almost futuristic design.

Nanakou's was a blue hairpin in the shape of a lightning bolt.

I could barely hold in my excitement.

"To activate them, just channel your soul into them. I hope you know how to do that."

Narakou and I nodded.

We were able to do it since we were 5. If we weren't we could not have used our abilities.

I channeled my soul into my pen and it broke apart and assembled into a brush with gun stickers on it.

Nanakou also channeled her soul into her hairpin

and it disassembled and assembled into a paint brush shape shaped like a sword.

"I'm loving this!" exclaimed Nanakon.

"Thanks Miss Suzu." I thanked her.

"No worries. And call me Su. I'm not that old. I'm just 23 you know?" she said.

She's 23?...

I could barely hide my shock.

I guess it was clear on my face because she smiled and said, "It's not that surprising."

"Thanks Su." I thanked.

She's so young and yet.

"We have to go, Now." yelled Miss Yuzu.

"Wait, why don't you give your instruments a test run first." Asked Su.

"What about the paint?" I asked.

"What?" Asked Su with her eyes wide.

"You know, pencil has graphite and a paint brush needs paint. Don't we need to place the brushes in paint first? That's what Minoru and I do." Added Nanakou.

Su began that of her laugh again.

"So you want to tell me that you always dip your brushes in paint before using it? I can't

even imagine!" she shouted barely holding her

laughter.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"I really like you two. You're funny. When you use your soul instrument or any other instrument

your soul energy turns into the paint or ink it needs to work," she answered.

To think all this while we've been thinking

that we need paint to use our abilities.

Nanakon pinched her nose Bridge "I feel really

stupid right now."

"Anyway, just try your soul instruments

Su instructed.

I drew a simple revolver pistol. An green ink like

substance streaked across the air

as I drew it.

The paint materialized into a revolver.

I grabbed it and squeezed the trigger but it didn't shoot.

"You do know you have to draw the ammo too don't you?" Asked Miss Yuzu.

I nodded.

Nanakou also began drawing, She also had ink streaks across the air but instead of it was blue.

A dagger materialized before her and she grabbed it.

She had a wide grin across her face. "Having to make a blade is quicker. You ability just wastes time Minori."

I also grinned. "But when it comes to long range, I clearly have you beat."

"Don't get cocky. I'm pretty sure I can take you in a fight." she said.

"Maybe we'll have a proper battle and see if that's true." I responded.

I staggered a bit.

"Guess you're still not used to your instrument yet. But remember, if you burn through too much at once, you will fall unconscious, never use all your soul energy," said Su.

Nanakou and I used too much of our soul energy

at once, that's why we fell unconscious and woke up here.

"What happens if we use all our soul energy?" Asked Nanakou.

"Amnesia" Answered Miss Yuzu.

I couldn't help but gasp.

"When you are reaching the end of your soul energy, you'll experience nosebleeds and your body weakens and so does your art structure." Explained Su.

"And if you deplete it, You'll fall unconscious and be paralyzed for about a month." Added Miss Yuzu

I swallowed a lump in my throat.

I could see Nanakou's hands shaking.

"We're done here. You have people to meet."said Su.

"Yeah, let's go. There's someone important for you to meet." Yelled Miss Yuzu.
