Chapter 37 - A Day At The Mall (part-2)

The afternoon sun streamed through the glass roof of the mall, casting geometric patterns on the polished floor. Hiten and Aarya had already explored half the shops, their arms full of shopping bags, but the sparkle in their eyes hadn't faded.

"Alright, I think we've conquered all clothing stores," Hiten announced dramatically, plopping down on a bench with a satisfied sigh.

Aarya laughed, adjusting her lehenga-inspired shopping tote. "Conquered? You mean you survived all the shops without complaining about my choices. That's an achievement in itself."

He grinned, leaning back. "True. But now… it's time for the real challenge." His eyes twinkled mischievously.

Aarya raised an eyebrow. "Challenge? What now? Another fashion test?"

"Better," Hiten said, grabbing her hand and pulling her toward the back of the mall. "Trampoline park."

Her eyes widened in mock horror. "You're insane! I'm not letting you bounce over me again like last time."

"Last time?" he teased, pretending to remember. "I think I bounced perfectly… you were just in the wrong place."

They reached the trampoline area, a bright, colorful space filled with high nets, foam pits, and laughter from kids and teenagers. The faint smell of rubber and the muffled thumps of jumping feet filled the air. Aarya hesitated at the entrance.

"Don't tell me you're scared," Hiten teased, nudging her shoulder.

"Scared? Me?" she said, putting on a brave front. "No, just… cautious. Someone has to keep you from flying into a wall."

Hiten laughed, tossing his backpack aside and grabbing her hand again. "Teamwork, remember?"

The first jump was cautious, both of them trying to synchronize their steps. They stumbled a few times, nearly colliding mid-air, and burst into laughter.

"You almost crushed me!" Aarya yelled, bouncing lightly to regain her balance.

"You're exaggerating!" Hiten retorted, leaping higher. "I'm the king of trampolines!"

Aarya rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her grin. Soon, they were bouncing freely, racing each other, doing flips (or at least attempting them), and occasionally landing in a heap on the soft mats, laughing uncontrollably.

At one point, Hiten launched himself toward a foam pit, accidentally pulling Aarya along. They fell together, landing in a jumble of foam cubes. Her laughter echoed across the park.

"Help! I'm trapped in Hiten-land!" she squealed.

Hiten dug himself out, brushing foam from his hair. "I'll rescue you, my queen!" he said theatrically, bowing low as he extended a hand. She grabbed it, giggling, and he pulled her out.

"You're impossible," she panted, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes.

"And you love it," he countered, grinning.

After the trampoline adventure, they wandered into the arcade, where neon lights reflected in their eyes. Hiten immediately gravitated toward the racing game, plopping Aarya in the passenger seat.

"Hold on tight! This is going to be fast," he said, revving the virtual engine.

Aarya shrieked, gripping the handlebars, "Hiten! Slow down!"

"Slow? Never heard of it," he teased, zooming past digital competitors. The game ended with Hiten narrowly winning, and he punched the air victoriously.

"I can't believe you cheated!" Aarya laughed, pointing at the screen.

"I didn't cheat! I just… am naturally amazing," he said with mock pride.

Next, they moved to the claw machines. Aarya immediately aimed for a small plush cat, while Hiten went for a slightly larger one. After several failed attempts and exaggerated groans, Hiten managed to snag his plush, and Aarya squealed in delight when she got hers too. They hugged their prizes triumphantly, grinning at each other.

By now, their stomachs were rumbling again, so they made a quick detour to the food court. Hiten bought her a chocolate milkshake, insisting it was a "mandatory treat for surviving the trampoline kingdom." She rolled her eyes but took a sip, letting him wink at her smugly.

"You spoil me," she said, half annoyed, half pleased.

"Because you deserve it," he replied smoothly, leaning slightly closer.

The last stop was the photo booth. They squeezed inside the tiny cabin, giggling as the countdown began. Silly faces, exaggerated pouty lips, and playful nudges filled the small space. The camera flashed repeatedly, capturing the chaos and joy of their afternoon together.

When the pictures were printed, they laughed at the strips. "We look ridiculous," Aarya said, holding one up.

"We look amazing," Hiten corrected, holding the other strip beside hers. "Perfectly ridiculous."

Finally, as the evening approached, they walked out of the mall, hands intertwined. Their shopping bags swayed, but the smiles on their faces were brighter than the setting sun behind them.

"Today was… incredible," Aarya whispered, leaning slightly on Hiten's shoulder.

"It was," he agreed softly. "And it's just the beginning. Wait until Diwali tomorrow."

Aarya looked up at him, eyes shining with excitement and affection. "I can't wait."

As they parted ways at the gate, both hearts were light, full of laughter, teasing, and the warmth of shared memories. The day at the mall had been more than shopping—it was a celebration of them, their playful banter, and the bond that grew stronger with every jump, every game, and every shared smile.
