Wendy had just returned to the guild's grounds, only to see the guild vanish into a flash of light. Her legs gave way, and she fell to her knees in despair.
"Why..."
Carla looked at the empty surroundings, her heart sinking; this moment had truly come.
Suddenly, the soil beneath her feet churned, and a pink-haired head popped out, looking panicked. "What happened?"
"Where is this? Happy? Lucy?"
"Big Brother Natsu!"
Wendy's eyes suddenly lit up, then dimmed as she said, "This is our guild. Everyone in the guild was sucked into a black hole."
"It seems like only we were left behind."
Happy flew over in a panic. "Natsu! Carla!"
"Happy!" Natsu hugged Happy in surprise and joy.
Then, another voice came through: "We're still here too."
Natsu and Wendy looked up, their expressions instantly turning to delight. "Acnologia, and Irene!"
Acnologia nodded slightly, looking at the black hole in the sky. "Aside from us, everyone else in the guild was sucked in."
He was pure power; even Super Sub-Space Magic couldn't budge him, while Irene had reacted in an instant and cast defensive magic.
Irene looked slightly solemn. "Quite a powerful magic, one I've never seen before."
Magic Particles, Nirvana, and now this massive Space Magic... After the Human-Dragon War, the magics being created were getting more terrifying by the day.
Acnologia looked at Carla and said, "Give them a brief explanation about Edolas. I'll fill in the gaps later."
Carla was startled. "You know about it?"
How was that possible? She hadn't even told Wendy.
Perhaps it was mostly fear of Acnologia, or perhaps she felt it was time to speak; after a short hesitation, she began to explain.
"The black hole in the sky is the passage to Edolas. Happy and I come from that world."
"What on earth is going on?"
Wendy looked confused; she felt as if Carla had been keeping many things from her.
Carla fell silent for a moment before saying, "Edolas is a world without magic. Their king invented a magic to steal magic from other worlds and created the Super Sub-Space Magic, Anima—that massive hole in the sky."
"The plan began many years ago, but someone has been trying to stop it. It should be Mystogan."
"But this time, Anima was too massive for Mystogan to stop, so the entire guild was absorbed."
Happy asked, "Just because they need magic, they're going to kidnap our guild comrades?"
Carla whispered, "Yes!"
"This is pure banditry! No, it's worse than bandits—they want all our lives!" Natsu gritted his teeth in fury.
"I'm sorry!"
Carla bowed her head and explained softly, "Happy and I were given a mission by Edolas and sent to this world. Memories and a mission were implanted in us long ago."
"I've known these things since the moment I was born."
She suddenly looked at Happy with envy. This male cat had no memories at all and could live carefree every day, while she was being crushed by the weight of it all.
Happy felt downcast. Did he hit his head when he was little? Why couldn't he remember anything at all?
"Can you tell me..."
"They aren't good memories. You should be glad; it's best if you never remember." Carla turned away, refusing to look at him.
Acnologia nodded slightly. "A basic understanding of that world is enough. As for the mission memories Carla mentioned, those are nothing more than fragments of Precognition."
"There's no need to resent your race. They sent you to this world in hopes that you wouldn't be wiped out by the humans of that world."
Carla gasped in shock, "How do you know I can see the future?"
How was this possible?
As for the mission, she wasn't even sure herself.
Capture the Dragon Slayers... She could never lay a hand on Wendy.
Acnologia shook his head and said, "Don't worry about such things. What we need to do now is go to Edolas to rescue everyone."
Most importantly, Erza had been sucked in. Since they dared to touch his daughter, those people from the other world were already courting death.
Natsu's head was spinning from that long explanation, but hearing about saving the guild, he immediately shouted, "Let's go save our guild comrades!"
Carla warned, "That is an unknown world, and I've never been there either. We must be cautious."
"Don't worry, I'm here! My flames will burn all our enemies!"
Natsu didn't care about the enemies at all. Whoever they were, he would make them pay.
Wendy hugged Carla and said comfortingly, "It's not your fault. I will definitely protect you, Carla!"
Carla fell silent. Sometimes, one's origin was a mistake in itself. As for what Acnologia said, she had to go to Edolas to verify it for herself. If her own race had implanted those memories in her, she would never forgive them!
She spread her white wings and grabbed Wendy's clothes. "Let's head out now!"
Natsu looked at Acnologia and Irene and asked, "What about you two?"
Acnologia said matter-of-factly, "Enchantment Magic can fly Irene and me up there!"
"Then can't you take us along too?"
Taking one more or one less shouldn't make any difference to Irene.
Irene covered her mouth and giggled, "That won't do. I'm only taking Acnologia."
Natsu: "..."
Aren't we on the same team?
...Soon, everyone soared into the sky, passing through the dissipating black hole and arriving in the world of Edolas.
A bright, sunny new world came into view. Compared to Aslant, it was more fantastical. Magical beasts and plants were bizarrely shaped, islands made of stone actually floated in the sky, and even rivers could flow through the clouds.
Because magic was forbidden in the world of Edolas, everyone fell straight from the sky like shooting stars.
Acnologia reached out and held Irene, landing on the ground with a boom. His overwhelming power shattered the earth beneath his feet.
Natsu, Wendy, and the two cats weren't so lucky. They plunged headfirst into giant mushrooms and couldn't pull themselves out.
"I can't use my magic. What's going on?"
Natsu finally managed to crawl out, feeling all his magic gone and having no strength to use.
Irene looked at Acnologia with an inquiring gaze; she felt the magic in her body was also restricted.
"This world forbids magic, though items are fine."
Acnologia felt a certain rule or restriction in this world; even his own inherent magic was locked within his body.
Of course, if he wanted to, he could break through the restriction with a bit of time, but there was no need, for his physical constitution was already invincible.
