Chapter 5 - Flames, Earth and Horrors

Down in the west of Veron City, an evacuation was ongoing. They were trying to move the citizens out of that part of the city with the creature there wreaking havoc. It wasnt any sort of creature, it stood over eleven feet tall, a behemoth with large tusks and slime drooling from its mouth, its grotesque face looked like that of a badger.

Surrounding it was a horde of smaller creatures that looked like molerats, and from what it was looking like, they were protecting the bigger one. There were two guilds down at the foot of the monsters, hurling blasts and attacks, trying to make sure they would break them down.

But the monster wasnt something normal, it roared, shaking all the corners of the block. The lower-ranked monsters formed a circle around the behemoth, letting out a shriek that pushed the warriors back.

The behemoth swung its arm around, sending buildings breaking down and debris flying around, destroying places.

"Stand your ground, make sure the civilians are evacuated, and tend to the wounded warriors!"

Hugo Mortia yelled, looking around as he watched the monster push even further. He was an S-ranked warrior and Vice Captain of the Blazing Spears, a skilled warrior with one of the strongest uses of earth.

But the creature in front of him, he had never seen anything like it before. It was far beyond his imagination, an SS-ranked atrocity trying to take down the city.

"Stand your ground, men!" he roared, pulling out his battle hammer, rushing for the beasts in front of him. Jumping past every piece of broken building parts, there with a fierce gaze in his eyes.

"Shattering World!" he roared as he struck the axe on the floor, sending a powerful tremor through the creatures, but the moment his attack got closer to the monsters, it was blocked off by a forcefield.

Worry engulfed Hugo's spine when he saw what the creature could do; he thought they thought it was a normal S-ranked monster they were facing, but the creature was far from normal.

"That damn thing has a forcefield; this isn't good." Hugo took one step back, trying to rethink his next line of action.

"Charge!"

He turned to see another guild charging for the beasts, and they were going at a fierce speed.

"No stand down!"

He tried to stop them, but the warriors were already close to the wall of the A-ranked monsters protecting the behemoth. They were trying to cut them down, but then the behemoth didnt waste time swinging its arm down. Eradicating the men that tried to tear down the wall, it was a swift execution, and the behemoth didnt look tired.

"Vice Captain Hugo, we lost the Red Kite Guild!" one of the warriors there spoke in fear, as they were looking at the creature.

They could see it, and it could see them. But this time it wasnt just looking at the city that was at its mercy, its focus was on Hugo and the warriors standing close to him.

The behemoth let out a powerful roar, which caused shockwaves, breaking down buildings, uprooting electric poles. Once it stopped, it slowly lifted itself, still looking at Hugo and his men from that distance.

"Simon, send a message to the tanks of each guild fighting with us." Hugo had noticed the monster's gaze; he felt like he was being tailed by a predator, and he was about to die there if he didnt do anything.

"Sir, what's the message!" Simon asked, paying close attention to Hugo's body movement.

"Tell them to form a forcefield, this beast is planning something!" Hugo held his hammer close as he braced himself for the monster's attack.

"Roger that!" Simon turned to the warriors with a dreadful look on his face. "Tanks, forcefield!"

Almost like it heard them talking about the forcefield, the behemoth's moth started glowing as it got ready to release a powerful blast for the warriors. The radiation coming from the blast, charging up in its mouth, was strong enough to bend the air in front of it. Reality was bending to the beast as it got ready to remove the warriors that were obstructing its view.

"Stand ready!" Hugo roared as he closed his eyes, muttering a prayer, trying to control what was about to happen.

The behemoth was about to fire the blast when, from nowhere, a flaming arrow flew past the warriors, breaking the forcefield, piercing the monster's side. The arrow made the behemoth fall back, causing it fire the blast in another direction, but the moment the blast was fired.

Hugo could see that even if they used a force field, they would have fallen. The blast eradicated everything that it came in contact with; it was like an atomic blast.

Simon turned to see who fired the arrow that saved them, and he could see someone standing on a ten-storey building a mile way. Dressed in green armor, with her red hair blowing in the wind's direction.

"It's her!" Simon was ecstatic; he held his spear closer to his chest. "The Red Griffin of the Azure Guild, SS-ranked Freya Cage!"

The warriors muttered happily amongst themselves that there was now a little ray of hope was now there.

Freya didnt waste time; she fired four more arrows, taking down the A-ranked monsters that stood as a wall for the behemoth.

Not missing a shot, she took them down. Hugo turned to look at the behemoth, and he could see that there was now an opening. A smirk was now registered on his face; he charged for the behemoth again with his hammer close to his chest.

He leaped into the air with a loud battle cry, and he smashed his hammer to the ground.

"Kingdom Quake!"

His attack released a powerful tremor that fired straight for the behemoth. This time, there was no force field to hold it back. It pushed the creature down, forcing it down one leg.

The behemoth let out a powerful shriek, trying to push the warriors back.

"Now!" Hugo roared, pointing at the behemoth, as the other warriors let out a battle cry as they charged for it.

They were now attacking the A-ranked monsters, taking them down one by one. Freya leaped from that distance once she was in the air. A silhouette of a griffin could be seen. She twirled as he landed right in front of the warriors and Hugo.

"Fire Whip!" She roared, clapping her hands together. A powerful shockwave imbued with flames struck down the remaining A-ranked monsters. A smile on her face, she pulled out her bow. It slowly broke apart, taking the form of twin blades.

She turned to look at Hugo, with a grin still there.

"Keep up."

Her words before charging for the behemoth, cutting down any monster that wanted to block her. Hugo had a smile on his face, holding his hammer close to his chest, he raced for Freya, bashing down any monster that came his way.

Both of them were charging for the behemoth, the beast noticed. Almost immediately, it let out a powerful roar, followed by tusks firing out of its mouth. Freya and Hugo managed to block the attacks, one of which grazed Hugo's side a bit.

"I will make sure you pay for that!"

He grunted as he jumped up, using almost all the force in his body to deliver a powerful strike to the ground, sending a strong quake for the monster. But he didnt stop there, he struck his hand into the ground, pulling out a chunk of earth, and hurling it up.

"Freya!"

Without another word, Freya covered the rock in fire. Hugo, using his hammer like a racket, flung the flaming rock at the behemoth.

The rock hit the behemoth, pushing it back. It still managed to stand its ground, letting out a powerful roar as it got ready to attack.

"Hugo, ground this beast!" Freya smirked as she got ready, waiting for an attack from Hugo.

Hugo slammed his hammer into the ground; this time, it was strong enough to cause a powerful shockwave, shaking the behemoth.

Following the attack, Freya launched herself into the air like a missile. She was now hovering over the behemoth, her eyes on the monster's head.

"Flaming Pillars of Judgement!" she roared, conjuring two massive pillars of flame, which were targeted at the behemoth. The moment it struck, the monster let out a shriek of pain as it started to charge up one of its blasts, trying to make sure it would take down Freya and Hugo.

But Freya had other plans. Twirling herself in the air, she bolted for the creature's head with her blades out.

"Dance of death!"

She went down on the monster, slicing its head out of the body on impact. Killing the monster.

"They did it!"

The warriors were jumping around excitedly; they knew that Hugo and Freya had slain the monster, and they weren't going to worry about a thing.

Simon slowly sat on the ground, looking at the fallen behemoth. "Finally, it's over."

Hugo could be seen standing there with his hammer by his side. A smile on his face, he knew that if Freya didnt show up, then he would not only have lost his guild, but he would have lost his life.

"I wonder why you carry a hammer that is almost as tall as you if you can't swing it properly."

Freya smiled as she walked down the behemoth's head, putting her bow back together and back on her side.

"Well, the people do love a man with a massive weapon." Hugo smiled. As he walked to Freya, he extended his hand for a handshake.

"Thank you, we couldn't have taken this thing down if you didnt show." He said, Freya, was looking at his hand. Then, slowly nodding her head, she shook Hugo.

"Now we are talking, Hugo, if I must say this look suits you. You're thanking me, and I appreciate it," she smiled.

Hugo couldn't help but laugh, he knew she wasnt one easy person, but she was one of the best to call.

"Now, if you dont mind, I need to get home to my brother and."

Freya paused, shivers went down her spine, almost like something was looking at them.

Hugo felt it too; he held his hammer close, turning to look at the behemoth.

"It can't be!" Freya spoke in disbelief. Right in front of her, the behemoth slowly pulled itself back together.

"I split its head, and I made sure the core was damaged. This creature shouldn't be alive!" She took a step back, as they were now getting ready for another fight.

The behemoth stood up, its eyes on Freya and Hugo. It let out a powerful roar; this time, it was strong enough to shatter the buildings. The roar was followed by a powerful, blood-curdling shriek that pushed Freya and Hugo to their knees.

The warriors held their ears as they were trying to push back and take a formation. Hugo and Freya were not backing down. They slowly got up despite the pain, ready to tear the behemoth down again.

"We have to make sure that nothing is going to hold us back this time around. We need to end this!"

Hugo stood ready with his hammer, and Freya pulled out her bow, ready for another attack. But then the monster let out another shriek, but this shriek was different. There was something else with it; it was the words.

"Where is he?!"

Hugo began sweating profusely, and Freya's face almost turned snow white. In all their years, they had never encountered anything like that.

"Did it just talk?" Freya muttered as she took a step back. It was then that she could see the behemoth taking an even stranger stance.

It was about to end things with them.

The behemoth's tusks shrank a bit as if it were morphing into something else. Now standing, the behemoth's face was changing. It took the form of a boar and a marmot; its face took a more grotesque form. Acidic drool is pouring down on the floor, melting the concrete.

Freya, holding her bow, took a step back. Her body filled with fear, and her bones, instincts, and mind screaming, telling her to take off and go back to Sylus.

She stood there, with her heart in her hand.

"Big brother, help me."
