"Are u sure?"
"Yes, yes, Mr. Watson.
You are asking for the 79th time today.
Expected delivery is day after tomorrow, and both mother and baby are fine."
"Oh, ok. Thank you, Doctor,"
Keifer said, cutting the call with a quick sigh.
He locked his phone and immediately headed back from the office to home.
It was Jay's ninth month-or more accurately, almost the very end of her ninth month.
The entire Watson mansion, and mostly Keifer himself, was on permanent high alert.
He had sent almost all the cars out for washing and routine checks, keeping only two high-speed vehicles parked at the front entrance strictly reserved for emergency transport.
The house was fully prepped like a party was about to break out at any second, and the nursery room for their baby was already completely furnished, decorated, and waiting.
It was approximately 9 PM when Keifer finally arrived home.
As he walked toward the main hall, he found Mrs. Watson coming out of their master bedroom.
"Good evening, Mom!"
he greeted her with a soft, tired smile.
Mrs. Watson nodded back with a warm smile of her own.
"Her back aches, she's resting now," she said gently, pointing toward the closed doors of their room.
They exchanged a brief nod, and Keifer softly opened the door and entered.
Jay was sleeping in the room peacefully.
She looked breathtakingly serene, swallowed up by the oversized mattress.
Draped in a soft, cozy nightgown, her 9-month heavy, rounded bump rose prominently under the light blanket.
Her face was soft and flushed with a natural pregnancy glow, her lips slightly parted in deep sleep, and a few dark strands of messy hair clung gently to her forehead.
Keifer took off his suit jacket, placing it over the sofa, and quietly walked over to the bed.
He sat down right beside her on the edge of the mattress.
Leaning down, he pressed a gentle, lingering kiss onto her smooth forehead, using his fingers to softly stroke back her falling hair.
"Good night, sunshine," he whispered softly.
Then, moving his broad palm down, he laid his hand flat against the warm curve of her belly, his dark eyes melting with pure devotion.
"Good night, baby," he whispered into the quiet room.
He sat there for a bit, simply staring at his wife's sleeping face.
With one hand, he continued stroking her soft hair, while his other hand gently held her small, warm fingers.
Finally, he leaned in once more
to press another tender kiss on her forehead before silently standing up and heading toward his private study.
He was determined to finish his most of the pending corporate work tonight so that he could spend the upcoming weeks
-or even the entire month-
freely with his wife and their newborn baby without a single distraction.
...
The next morning came softly,
sunlight filtering gently through the thin sheer curtains of the master suite.
Jay slowly blinked her eyes open, feeling a dull, lingering ache across her lower back and neck. She laid there for a moment, taking a deep, slow breath.
"Good morning, baby..."
she whispered affectionately, placing her palm against the heavy, prominent curve of her 9-month belly.
She turned her head to greet Keifer, but the mattress beside her was empty and cold.
Her eyebrows knitted together in slight disappointment-until her eyes caught his suit jacket draped neatly over the sofa across the room.
He had definitely come home last night.
He was probably just somewhere nearby in the house.
Jay let out a quiet sigh, still feeling heavy and exhausted.
Gathering her energy, she slowly pushed herself up, freshened up in the bathroom, and made her way out, walking with a tired, heavy waddle.
Down in the dining area, Soph was already seated at the table with a tablet in hand, browsing through something while waiting for food.
Mrs. Watson was moving around gracefully alongside the maid, arranging fresh breakfast plates, while Mr. Watson had already left early for an urgent, high-stakes meeting at the office.
Jay offered a weary, gentle smile as she approached.
"Good morning, Mom.
Good morning, Soph."
"Good morning, Jay!" both of them replied instantly, their eyes lighting up with warm, affectionate smiles.
"Anak! Come, sit and have your breakfast,"
Mrs. Watson said softly, gesturing toward a plush chair.
Jay nodded, stepping forward to pull out the chair.
But before her hand could even touch the wood, a sharp, violent twitch shot straight through her lower abdomen.
"Ow!" a sharp gasp escaped her lips as her hands instinctively flew to clutch her belly.
"Jayyyy!" Mrs. Watson and Soph shrieked in unison, rushing toward her at full speed.
"AAAAAA!"
Jay screamed out as an intense, overwhelming surge of pain hit her like a freight train, making her knees buckle.
"Her water broke! Her water broke!"
Mrs. Watson panicked, her voice reaching a high octave as she held Jay's trembling shoulders.
"Soph, PULL OUT THE CAR! FAST!"
Mrs. Watson yelled frantically.
Soph dropped her tablet onto the floor without a second thought, sprinting out toward the garage like a track star.
"Mommm... Mom... it's... wasn't it supposed to be tomorrow?!"
Jay asked in utter panic, her breathing coming in heavy, ragged gasps as she winced through the crushing pain, barely able to stay upright.
"It's okay! It's okay, nothing to worry about! Don't worry, sweetie!"
Mrs. Watson tried desperately to calm her down, though her own hands were shaking uncontrollably with frantic adrenaline.
"Mom... Keifer..."
Jay whimpered, wincing as she gripped Mrs. Watson's arm with white knuckles.
"Where is Keifer?!"
"He'll come, don't worry!
We need to get you to the hospital first!"
Mrs. Watson assured her, practically supporting half of Jay's weight as they shuffled out the front doors.
With Soph slamming the car door open from the driver's seat and Mrs. Watson holding Jay steady, they somehow managed to get her into the backseat, the engine roaring to life as they sped out of the Watson gates.
**
Keifer slowly stirred, his cheek pressed flat against the hard mahogany surface of his study desk.
A sharp, dull ache radiated down the side of his neck as he pulled himself back, wincing and stretching his stiff shoulders.
He rubbed his weary eyes, blinking heavily against the morning light.
He looked around the quiet room, his dazed gaze falling on his crumpled white formal shirt and his thrown-off tie.
"Study?"
he whispered to himself, his voice thick with sleep. He bolted upright from his chair.
"Oh God, I fell asleep here!"
A wave of urgent panic washed over him as his foggy brain kicked into gear.
"I need to go to her,"
he muttered, turning around to take a step toward the door.
Before his foot could even touch the floor, the heavy wooden doors of the study burst open with a loud bang.
A maid sprinted inside, panting for air, her face pale with terror.
"Sirrrrr!"
she gasped out, catching her breath.
Keifer froze dead in his tracks, his heart dropping straight into his stomach.
"What happened?!"
"Sir... Ma'am... she's in the hospital!"
"WHATTTTT?!"
Keifer yelled, his dark eyes widening in pure shock.
"WHY?! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER?!"
"Her labor pain started!"
the maid cried out, wringing her hands.
"WHAT?!"
Total, unadulterated panic completely took over his body.
Keifer didn't wait another second.
He bolted out of the study and sprinted down the grand hallway like a madman, his hair messy, his shirt wrinkled, and his belt half-unbuckled.
He didn't care about his appearance or his corporate dignity-all he cared about was reaching Jay.
He tore down the stairs, practically flying through the front doors, and sprinted straight into the underground garage.
"Give me the keys! Fast!"
Keifer ordered the head guard, his chest heaving as he ran toward the empty parking slots.
The guard swallowed hard, trembling under his boss's frantic gaze.
"But, sir..."
"CAN'T YOU LISTEN?!"
Keifer roared, his voice echoing off the concrete walls, making every guard and worker flinch in horror.
"GIVE ME THE DAMN KEYS!"
The guard gulped, sweating profusely.
"Sir... all the cars are gone for washing, as per your orders yesterday."
Keifer froze.
The world went dead silent around him.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!"
he screamed, the realization slamming into his head like a ton of bricks.
He clutched his temples with both hands, pacing back and forth in a frantic circle.
Then, a sudden spark hit his panicked mind.
"Wait! Two cars were kept here for emergency!
Give me those keys!"
"Sir... that's..." the guard squeaked, backing away half a step.
"WHAT NOW?!"
Keifer barked, looking like he was about to burst a blood vessel.
"Actually... in one car, Ma'am Jay has been taken to the hospital by Mrs. Watson... and the other one was taken by Mr. Watson to his morning meeting,"
the guard explained hesitantly, bracing for impact.
Keifer stood entirely still for two agonizing seconds.
"Oh God..." he muttered under his breath.
"WHAT THE FUCK, KEIFER?!"
he yelled at the top of his lungs, completely losing his mind.
In pure, unhinged frustration, he swung his fist and punched the nearest concrete wall.
"DAMN IT!"
Without wasting another second, he spun around on his heel and sprinted right out of the mansion gates, running straight down the private neighborhood road.
"FUCK YOU, KEIFER!
SERIOUSLY!"
he cursed himself out loud, his expensive dress shoes slapping loudly against the pavement.
"JAY WAS RIGHT!
I AM AN IDIOT!
A TOTAL FOOL!"
He kept running, his lungs burning, his breath coming in ragged gasps, his messy hair flying wildly in the wind.
"Keifer, I swear, if I miss the birth... I swear if I miss my baby..."
He was running so fast, cursing his own existence, that he didn't even notice the small bump near the curb.
OW!
His shoe caught the edge, and the powerful, multi-billionaire CEO went flying forward, crashing knees-first onto the grass near the sidewalk.
"FUCK YOU, KEIFERRRRR!"
he groaned, rubbing his sore knee as he pushed himself up.
But just as he was about to stand, his eyes caught something sitting near the driveway of a neighbor's house.
He froze.
He blinked.
It was a teenager's mountain bike-
the kind a 15-year-old kid would ride.
It was painted in bright neon green, covered in loud anime stickers, and had a slightly rusty chain hanging near the back wheel.
Keifer stood up instantly, sprinted over, and grabbed the handlebars of the teen's bike.
He looked left, then right, wildly searching the yard for the owner.
Nobody was around.
And then, exactly like a desperate thief, the 6-foot-2 CEO awkwardly swung his long leg over the seat and sat down.
The frame was noticeably too small for his tailored frame.
"I can't believe this... Mark Keifer Watson...
I actually can't believe this,"
he muttered, letting out a deeply dramatic, heartbroken sigh as he stared at the neon green handlebars.
He looked toward the main road leading to the hospital.
"But... I have to do it.
For Jay.
For our baby,"
he explained to himself dramatically, setting his jaw with fierce determination.
But as soon as he start pedaling.....
"THIEF! THIEF!"
