7 more months later....
The smooth purr of the engine hummed through the car as night fell over the city.
Keifer kept one hand firm on the steering wheel, his jaw set, staring straight at the open road ahead.
"Keifer, plzzzz!"
Jay pleaded, leaning over the center console and giving him her absolute cutest look.
He didn't budge.
"No."
"But please.... hubbyyyy!"
she dragged out the word, giving her best, most irresistible pout while waving a small hand right in front of his face.
Keifer deliberately looked away, fixing his eyes strictly on the windshield.
He knew the drill by now-if he met those wide, glossy eyes for even two seconds, his resolve would crumble, and they'd end up wrapped around a lamppost.
"No."
"My most handsome hubby...
please, just one scoop of vanilla!
I swear, only one!"
Six months had passed since their trip to the island villa, but some things never changed.
Right now, Keifer was behind the wheel, driving them back from a late-night clinic visit.
Jay had caught a miserable cold and had been sneezing continuously since the early morning.
Naturally, she had stubbornly refused to go to the doctor and marched straight off to the office instead-
forcing Keifer to personally march into her department and drag her out to his car.
"No,"
he repeated, steadfast.
"But whyyyy?"
she sulked, collapsing back into her seat with a dramatic sigh.
Keifer pressed the brakes hard, bringing the car to a smooth stop at a red light.
He turned his body toward her, taking in her flushed face and trembling shoulders.
"Jay, baby, we are literally coming back from the hospital right now,"
he said, his voice dropping into that quiet, firm tone he only used when he was genuinely concerned.
"You have a cold."
"Cold?
Where is cold?
There's no cold!
I'm completely fine, I swear-"
"Achoo!"
Before she could even finish her sentence, a loud sneeze cut her off.
Keifer tilted his head, raising a single eyebrow at her.
"Wow,"
he mocked smoothly, exaggerating his expression.
"'There's no cold, I'm fine.'"
Jay pouted, her cheeks burning red.
"Keiferrrr!"
Instead of arguing, Keifer reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his silk handkerchief.
With practiced ease, he reached over, gently cupping her chin in one broad palm to hold her still while he used the handkerchief in his other hand to softly wipe her nose.
Jay didn't pull away;
she just kept her lower lip poked out, staring directly into his dark eyes the entire time.
"No,"
he whispered softly, his thumb lightly stroking her jawline before he let her go.
The light turned green, and he shifted the car back into drive.
"Okay, so you won't buy me even one?"
she pushed again, crossing her arms tightly across her chest.
"No."
"That means you don't love me!" she declared with absolute conviction.
Keifer sighed, a fond look passing over his features.
"It's not like thi-"
"No, it is like this!"
she snapped back, looking thoroughly betrayed.
Keifer raised an eyebrow at her dramatic accusation, but a slow, dangerous smirk began to curl at the corner of his lips.
He didn't bother defending himself, knowing full well how this game worked.
Jay made a deeply offended face, quickly turning her head away to glare out the passenger window.
She held his handkerchief tightly in her small hand, constantly dabbing at her nose while muttering under her breath about how heartless her husband was.
A few minutes later, the dark Mercedes pulled through the tall iron gates and rolled to a stop in the driveway of the mansion.
Keifer unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out of the car, intending to walk around to open her door like he always did.
But before he could even take two steps around the hood, Jay popped her door open, sprinted out of the car in a cloud of pure defiance, and dashed straight inside the mansion without waiting for him.
Keifer stood alone in the quiet driveway, staring at the heavy double doors she had just slammed behind her.
He stood there for exact three seconds-
and then a low, affectionate chuckle escaped his throat.
Shaking his head, he grabbed her handbag from the seat and walked inside to handle his very angry, very adorable wife.
Jay stomped inside the house, the heels of her shoes clicking loudly against the polished marble floor of the foyer.
"Anak, you came back?
I got to know you went to the doctor-how are you now?"
Mrs. Watson asked, looking up from the couch where she was sitting beside Sophia, watching TV.
Jay paused her aggressive walking for a brief second and a sweet, innocent smile came onto her face as soon as she saw mom.
"Yes, Mom, I'm fine,"
she said softly, dabbing Keifer's handkerchief against her nose once again to hide another tiny sneeze.
Her sweet smile vanished in a split second the moment she caught sight of Keifer stepping through the front doors behind her,
carrying her handbag with that infuriating, attractive smirk still plastered on his face.
Jay instantly turned her face away, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
Mrs. Watson and Sophia looked at Jay, then at Keifer, and then exchanged a puzzled look with each other, completely shrugging their shoulders.
They had no idea what had transpired between the two in the car to trigger such a dramatic reaction.
"Jay..."
Keifer called out smoothly, taking a few steps toward her.
She deliberately turned her head in the opposite direction.
"Mom... please tell your son not to talk to me."
Mrs. Watson raised an eyebrow, amused by the sudden wall of silence.
"Jay... you know you are sneezing.
You can't eat ice cream,"
Keifer pleaded, holding up his hands in surrender as he tried to reason with her.
The moment the word 'ice cream' left his mouth, Mrs. Watson and Sophia looked at each other again,
their eyes widening in realization before breaking into a synchronized, teasing
"Ohhhh!"
"Mom, tell him that I don't know anything else!
I just know that he doesn't love me because he didn't buy me an ice cream!"
Jay announced firmly, refusing to even look at him.
Keifer placed his hands on his hips, raising a single brow in utter disbelief.
"Are you serious right now?"
"Yes!"
she declared.
With her chin held high and her arms crossed tightly, Jay turned on her heel and marched up the grand staircase like a offended queen.
Keifer stood at the base of the stairs, helplessly watching her retreat before turning around to face his mother and sister.
Mrs. Watson and Sophia stared back at him for a quiet second, and then...
They completely burst out laughing.
"Oh, poor Kuyaaaaaa!,"
Sophia teased, clutching her stomach as she leaned against the sofa cushion.
"The big, tough husband reduced to a villain over a single scoop of vanilla!"
"You really messed up this time, son,"
Mrs. Watson added, her eyes twinkling with laughter.
"Denying a sick woman her comfort food?
Heartless!"
Keifer let out a heavy sigh, running a hand through his dark hair as their continuous giggles echoed through the living room.
"Are you both serious right now?"
he asked, shaking his head.
"Best of luck with your wife's tantrums!"
Sophia laughed loudly, waving him off.
"You're going to need a miracle to get out of the doghouse tonight!"
"Thanks for the support,"
Keifer muttered sarcastically under his breath, turning around to follow Jay's path up the stairs.
He walked down the long, quiet hallway and reached their master bedroom.
Turning the brass doorknob carefully, he slowly opened the door and peeked inside.
The room was completely empty.
Keifer stepped inside, closing the door softly behind him, his dark eyes scanning the quiet room to figure out where his dramatic little wife was hiding.
The faint, steady hum of the shower running came from behind the bathroom door.
Keifer looked toward the closed door, a small, knowing smile touching his lips.
Since she was occupied in the shower, he decided to make good use of the time.
His dark eyes fell onto his leather briefcase resting by the nightstand.
Shifting gears into work mode, he grabbed his laptop, walked over to the plush velvet sofa in the corner of the room, and settled down, balancing the computer on his thighs.
A few minutes passed.
The sound of the running water stopped.
The bathroom door clicked open, and Jay stepped out into the bedroom.
She was wearing a loose, comfortable night suit-
a soft button-up shirt paired with matching full-length pajama pants.
Dabbing her damp nose with a fresh tissue, she looked around the room, her gaze landing squarely on her husband sitting on the couch.
Keifer had his phone pressed tightly to his ear, completely engrossed in a late-night work call with his pa.
"Yes, James. Send me those files tonight so I can review them before tomorrow's meeting,"
Keifer was saying into the receiver, his deep voice smooth and professional.
Jay paused in front of the vanity mirror.
Catching her own reflection, she tilted her head, her glossy eyes sparkling with sudden, wicked inspiration.
A subtle, mischievous smirk slowly spread across her lips.
She reached up, pulling the clip out of her hair to release her messy bun, letting her soft, dark locks cascade down her shoulders and frame her neck.
Oh, so you're going to ignore me for work now?
she thought, a triumphant glint in her eyes.
Keifer was mid-sentence when a soft shadow fell over him.
Before he could even register her movement, two small, soft hands reached down, took the laptop off his thighs, and set it down on the coffee table beside the couch.
And before he could process what was happening, Jay effortlessly slipped right down into his lap.
Keifer's breath hitched sharply in his throat.
Jay wrapped her arms snugly around his broad neck, pulling her body completely flush against his chest, her pajama-clad legs draped over his lap as she snuggled in close.
"Sir? Are you still there?"
James's voice echoed faintly
through the speaker, oblivious to the sudden invasion.
Keifer's entire body went rigid as a board.
His hands hovered in the air for a fraction of a second before his instincts took over, his broad palms clamping firmly around her waist to anchor her securely.
He stared down at his wife, whose face was buried in the crook of his neck, her small hands lightly playing with the soft hair at the nape of his neck.
"I... I..."
Keifer stuttered into the phone, his voice raspy, completely losing his professional composure as his heart started pounding like a war drum against his ribs.
Jay leaned in, her warm lips brushing softly against his jawline before pressing a gentle, wet kiss right onto his cheek.
At the sudden contact, Keifer's grip on her waist tightened instinctively, his large fingers digging slightly into the fabric of her night suit.
"I'm... I'm here, James,"
Keifer forced out into the phone, his deep voice carrying a sudden, unnatural strain.
"Sir? Is everything alright?
Should we defer the discussion regarding the European acquisition until tomorrow morning?"
James asked over the receiver, sounding distinctly concerned by his boss's abrupt hesitation.
Jay pulled back just a fraction, tilting her head and raising an eyebrow as she studied his reaction.
Keifer was deliberately staring straight at the opposite wall, stubbornly refusing to meet her gaze.
(Just a reminder.... don't forget to read the a/n at the end)
She narrowed her eyes at his resistance, but the moment she noticed the tight, tense lines forming across his forehead as he fought to ignore her, a wicked, triumphant smirk spread across her lips.
Oh, so you want to play tough?
Without a second thought, Jay tightened her arms around his neck and pressed her open mouth directly against the sensitive spot where his neck met his shoulder.
She slowly trailed her lips upward-from his collarbone to his jawline-
leaving a trail of light, fiery kisses that made Keifer's entire body go rigid.
"Yes... I..."
Keifer stammered into the line, his voice cutting off entirely as a sharp intake of breath caught in his throat.
Jay didn't stop there.
Her small, warm hand slid down the front of his dress shirt, finding the gap between the buttons and slipping right inside.
Her palm pressed directly against his warm, hard torso, her fingers tracing a delicate path over his chest.
A sudden chill shot straight down Keifer's spine at the soft contrast of her skin against his.
She leaned in until her lips brushed the shell of his ear, her warm breath scorching against his skin as she whispered in a sweet, dangerous purr:
"I love you..."
It was absolute torture.
Keifer squeezed his eyes shut, his jaw clenching tightly.
He couldn't even bring himself to disconnect the important call, but maintaining a professional tone was rapidly becoming an impossible task.
"Please hold the call for a sec, James,"
Keifer uttered instantly, taking a sharp, heavy exhale in a desperate attempt to compose himself as her fingers slid further up his chest.
Lowering the phone slightly, he opened his dark eyes and looked down at his wife.
Jay sat proudly on his lap, looking back at him with a thoroughly pleased smirk.
"You are such an evil woman,"
he muttered, his voice thick and gravelly from the sudden strain.
"Evil?
Me?
Nah!"
she replied with mock innocence, blinking her glossy eyes at him.
"Why did you do that?"
he asked, his dark gaze searching her face.
Jay instantly poked her lower lip out into a dramatic pout.
"You didn't buy me an ice cream."
The moment Keifer saw her lip stick out in that ridiculous, adorable pout, all the tension in his broad shoulders completely vanished.
A soft, breathless smile melted onto his lips, replacing his strict demeanor with pure, helpless affection.
"I love you too, sunshine,"
he whispered softly, leaning down to press a sweet, lingering kiss directly onto her pouting lips.
His large hand slid down to the back of her thigh, effortlessly scooping her body up to shift her into a better position against his chest.
But before he could even stand up from the sofa, the phone in his other hand buzzed loudly, the screen lighting up with an incoming call from his assistant again.
Keifer looked down at the flashing screen, letting out a long, heavy sigh.
He looked back at Jay, a playful yet desperate glint in his dark eyes as he gestured to the phone.
"Is the torture over, or are you going to keep distracting me?"
Jay tilted her chin up, her hands still comfortably looped around his neck as she gave him a mischievous, sweet smile.
"No. Not over yet!"
Keifer let out a heavy, defeated sigh.
Without letting go of her, he tapped the screen with his thumb to accept the call, holding the phone to his ear with one hand while keeping his other arm locked securely around Jay's waist.
"Yes, James,"
Keifer spoke into the line, his tone attempting to return to its usual businesslike calm as he stood up from the sofa, carrying Jay effortlessly along with him.
"Sir, I apologize for interrupting again,"
James's voice crackled through the speaker, sounding thoroughly stressed.
"About the third-phase audit report for the European expansion-the finance team needs your approval on the revised budget allocation before the morning market opens in London."
Jay's jaw dropped in pure, dramatic offense.
He is still talking about spreadsheets?!
She pulled her upper body back, crossing her arms over his chest and glaring at him like he had just committed a high crime.
Keifer deliberately avoided her intense, offended gaze, keeping his eyes fixed firmly on the far wall.
He walked over to the bed and carefully lowered her down until her back sank into the soft mattress.
"Approved, James. Send the
finalized draft to my email,"
Keifer murmured into the phone, attempting to take a cautious step backward to gain some distance before he completely lost his mind.
Jay was way too fast.
Before his foot could even touch the hardwood floor, her hands shot out like lightning, snatching the lapels of his shirt.
With a sharp, surprisingly powerful yank, she pulled him right back down onto the bed.
In one smooth, chaotic move, she kicked her legs over, rolled him onto his back, and mounted his lap-hovering triumphantly over him like a victorious conqueror.
"Ah!"
A sharp gasp escaped Keifer's throat as his back hit the mattress, his phone almost slipping out of his hand.
He stared up at her in absolute, wide-eyed disbelief.
Jay just sat on his chest, her hands planted firmly against his shoulders, a wicked, unstoppable smirk plastered across her face.
"Sir?!"
James's panicked voice practically shrieked through the earbud.
"Sir, are you alright?!
What was that sound?!
Did something collapse?!"
Keifer closed his eyes, taking a deep, desperate breath to steady his racing heart while glaring up at his wife.
Jay was sitting right on top of him, her shoulders shaking silently as she covered her mouth to stifle her giggles.
"I am... fine, James,"
Keifer forced out, his voice a tight, strained rasp.
He glared fiercely at the giggling menace on top of him.
"It was just... a very large, extremely aggressive mosquito. I dropped my phone trying to swat it."
"A... a mosquito, sir?"
James sounded deeply bewildered, clearly wondering if the top-floor master suite had suddenly been invaded by tropical wildlife.
"Should I call house maintenance to inspect the suite?"
"No, James,"
Keifer gritted out through his teeth, his hand sliding up to grip Jay's waist to keep her steady as she squirmed with laughter on his chest.
"I am currently... handling the pest myself. Goodnight."
Before his assistant could ask any more questions about the deadly mosquito, Keifer ended the call and tossed the phone onto the nightstand, finally giving his full, undivided attention to the laughing girl hovering over him.
He raised a brow, a slow, dangerous smirk spreading across his lips as his hands tightened their grip on her waist, pulling her even closer.
"Now who will save you from me, princess?"
he asked huskily, his deep voice vibrating straight through her chest.
Jay's mischievous smirk vanished in an instant, her eyes freezing wide as a sudden flutter went off in her stomach.
Buzzz!
The sharp vibration of his phone
shattered the moment.
Keifer glanced at the screen on the nightstand-it was James calling again.
Let out a heavy, defeated sigh, he swiped to answer, bringing the speaker back to his ear.
"Sir, I am so sorry to bother you again,"
James started frantically,
"but the regional director insists on a quick confirmation regarding the London market opening!"
As Keifer listened to the rapid-fire update, Jay's frozen shock melted right back into wicked mischief.
Seeing him distracted once more, she leaned down and playfully bit right into the crook of his neck, sinking her teeth in just enough to startle him.
"Ugh!"
A loud, involuntary groan ripped from Keifer's throat.
"Sir?!"
James squeaked over the line, sounding utterly terrified.
"Sir, are you okay?!
Did the mosquito bite you?!"
"I... yes! It's a very persistent, vicious mosquito, James!"
Keifer stammered out, his usual authoritative tone completely crumbling into nervous desperation as Jay covered her mouth, giggling hysterically on top of him.
"Should I call an exterminator, sir?!
Is it poisonous?!"
James asked, his voice rising a full octave.
Keifer closed his eyes for a brief second, desperately trying to figure out how to survive James's panicked questions and his wife's wild antics at the exact same time.
Not knowing how else to handle this little pest, he took a deep breath, opened his eyes, and acted.
In one swift, sudden motion, Keifer rolled them over, flipping Jay onto her back and trapping her beneath his broad frame.
He reached up, attempting to pin both of her wrists above her head with one hand-which proved ridiculously difficult as
Jay squirmed,
kicked her legs,
and giggled non-stop,
trying to pull her hands free.
He propped his other elbow near her head to keep the phone held to his ear,
one of his knees resting on the mattress while his other leg hung off the edge of the bed.
He was completely trapped in the most chaotic position imaginable, but he somehow managed to lock his small mosquito safely beneath him.
However, he made one fatal mistake: he looked down.
His face was mere inches from hers.
Her wrists were pinned high, her dark hair was spread out like a soft halo over the white sheets, and her flushed, smiling face was framed by glossy, parted pink lips.
For a second, the entire world went dead silent. Keifer forgot everything-
the phone pressed to his ear, James, the London market, the multi-million-dollar meeting.
Her soft, breathing lips felt like a irresistible magnet drawing him in.
Overwhelmed by her sheer beauty, he slowly, hypnotically leaned down...
"Sir? Sir, are you still there?"
James's voice crackled through the phone, snatching Keifer right out of the trance.
Keifer flinched, his eyes snapping open as he stuttered out a quick, messy response.
He instantly looked away, staring hard at the mattress as he tried with every ounce of his remaining willpower to focus on the call.
He was doing his absolute best to end the conversation as fast as possible, but the meeting details were too critical to just hang up.
And as he stayed trapped above her, completely occupied with the call, Jay lay beneath him with a victorious, knowing smile-waiting for her moment to strike again.
Even with both of her wrists pinned firmly above her head, Jay was far from defeated.
She tilted her chin up, stretched her neck, and carefully clamped her teeth around one of the buttons on his dress shirt.
With a quick, skillful tug, she popped the button right open.
Keifer's eyes went wide in sheer shock, his deep voice instantly dying in his throat mid-sentence.
"Sir? Did the mosquito bite through your shirt?!"
James's panicked voice shrieked through the speaker.
Before Keifer could even process her move, Jay leaned in and pressed a warm, lingering kiss directly onto his bare chest.
As Keifer looked down at her in absolute disbelief-his jaw slightly slack and his mind completely blown-
she pushed off his chest, stretched upward again, and stole a quick, cheeky peck right from his lips.
That was the absolute final straw.
"James, if you call me again tonight, you're fired,"
Keifer growled into the receiver.
Without waiting for a response, he tossed the phone blindly over his shoulder, hearing it land with a soft thud somewhere on the rug.
The phone was forgotten.
The European market was completely gone.
There was only the mischievous girl beneath him.
A dark, intense warmth flooded his eyes as he lowered himself back down over her frame, freeing her wrists so he could frame her face with both hands.
He leaned in, his gaze dropping to her parted lips, finally ready to give her a proper, uninterrupted kiss.
"ACCHOOO!"
A loud, violent sneeze erupted from Jay, blowing directly into his bare chest.
Keifer froze mid-air, blinking in sheer shock as a quiet, heavy silence fell over the bedroom.
Jay slowly opened her eyes, her nose instantly turning a bright, embarrassing shade of red.
She offered him an extremely apologetic, guilty little smile, scrunching up her face.
"Oops..." she squeaked softly, sniffing.
"My bad, hubby..."
Keifer let out a long, breathless laugh, dropping his forehead right onto her shoulder as his entire body shook with helpless amusement.
"Unbelievable,"
he chuckled, lifting his head back up to look at her with an affectionate, disbelieving grin.
"You terrorize me for an entire hour, strip my shirt off with your teeth, ruin a multi-million-dollar business call, accuse me of a mosquito attack, and the exact second I finally yield... you sneeze on my chest?"
"I told you I was sick!"
Jay whined playfully, pouting dramatically as she rubbed her cheek against his shoulder.
"You're the one who didn't let me eat vanilla ice cream to cure it!
This is karma!"
"Ice cream does not cure a cold, you tiny chaotic menace,"
Keifer mocked affectionately.
He reached over to the nightstand, grabbed a soft tissue, and carefully wiped her nose for her while she pouted up at him.
"If anything, ice cream would have turned that sneeze into a full-blown plague."
"It cures my soul, Keifer,"
she argued stubbornly, though her eyelids were already starting to droop.
The sheer exhaustion of her cold, combined with her intense late-night mischief, was finally catching up to her.
"A happy soul heals faster. It's medical science."
"Right, expert Doctor Jay,"
he laughed softly, tossing the tissue into the bin.
Keifer's expression softened completely as he watched her fight off a heavy yawn.
He rolled off her, shifting onto his side and gently pulling her soft body flush against his chest.
He reached down and grabbed the heavy duvet, draping it over both of them and tucking her in securely until she was cocooned like a warm, cozy burrito.
"Go to sleep, my little mosquito,"
Keifer whispered sweetly, pressing a long, tender kiss to her forehead.
"We'll fight about your ice cream addiction tomorrow morning."
Jay smiled lazily against his chest, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist and burying her face into the crook of his neck.
"I love you, hubby... even if you're a mean doctor."
Keifer chuckled, tightening his grip around her and resting his chin atop her soft hair as they both drifted off into a peaceful, warm sleep.
"I love you too, sunshine."
