Chapter 90 - The Nightmare

Valentina's POV

He shifted, unfolding his long frame from the chair.

The movement was fluid, predatory. He walked to the window, the floorboards sighing under his weight, and looked out at the same view I'd been studying for hours.

"Marco is downstairs," he said, his back to me. "He's not happy about the company."

"Marco," I repeated, testing the name. The chap in charge of security. 

I took the wine glass with me, moving to the high-backed armchair opposite the fire. It felt safer sitting with something between us, even if it was just a small table and a few feet of Persian rug.

"He doesn't need to worry," I said, swirling the dark red liquid. "I'm not staying long enough to leave a bad review. That's if I would be allowed to leave"

Salvatore turned from the window.

The firelight was behind me now, casting my shadow long across the floorboards, but it illuminated him perfectly.
