Her grandfather, Aldrich the third's expression became more serious as he leaned back in his chair, with his always sharp amber eyes remaining fixed on Nyx.
"You already know that there has always been a complicated relationship between our family and the House of Blumonté."
Nyx remained silent. She knew that much.
The two families were the only recognized Great Families within the United States, and although they maintained a relatively peaceful relationship on the surface, neither side had ever truly trusted the other.
Aldrich continued.
"Things became even more complicated after you so blatantly rejected the eldest son of the House of Blumonté."
Nyx's expression didn't change. She remembered him.
