Chapter 73 - Sheo's new boots

"Depends on what you consider insignificant or not. If you think being Ysgramor's son makes him important historically then sure he's not an insignificant person. But if you consider actual accomplishments contributed by the man then he's a footnote of no significance. He never accomplished anything noteworthy, his only claim to fame was because of his parentage." I said with a chuckle.

"Forever stuck in his fathers shadow is it? Tale as old as time that." Sergius said shaking his head.

"As for defenses or Draugr in the tomb I don't believe there should be anything worth worrying about. At most would be Yngol himself who should be a decent challenge as an ancient warrior but that's it." I said calmly.

"You should go see Colette if you are going to be dealing with undead. She should know a few undead bane class spells." he said after a moment of thought.

"No need I already know a few myself. [Sunfire blade] should prove good enough against a bunch of dry flammable Draugr." I said with a chuckle.

"Hmm, perhaps. Would it not be more useful as an enchantment on a weapon?" he asked.

"Kinda? It would certainly be more expensive." I said with a chuckle.

"Ah, an unnecessary expense then. Considering your OTHER expenses a custom enchanted weapon like that may set you back considerably." he said awkwardly.

"No need to honey coat it, Lokjun is a heavy burden on my finances. Still i'm working around that fact well enough. Now that it's been thoroughly protected the strain is mostly from the constant need for firewood and spices." I said with a shrug.

With that settled I left his chamber and headed back to my room as I now had to make an entirely different set of preparations. Going to Yngol's barrow was going to be a whole journey that was going to take the better part of a week on the frozen, dangerous road between Winterhold and Windhelm before crossing the great river and heading north. In the game the trip from Windhelm to Yngol's barrow was a short jog down the road, reality was not the same. It was a full day's walk at least since the entire world was scaled to a much more reasonable size compared to the limitations of the game.-

I wasn't worried about bandits or anything like that but my chief concern was Ancano and the thalmor. Heading for Serpents roost wouldn't provide any opportunity for interception as it was into the sea beyond the college where no sane person would ever sail. I had ALREADY been intercepted on the path between Winterhold and Windhelm however. Speaking of that little incident, I'd done some digging and managed to rule Ancano off the list of suspects for the one who tipped those would be assassins off. The arrogant gnat didn't even know who I was apparently until his little confrontation with me when he looked into me himself.-

In theory he could have gotten word of my presence in Windhelm and set up the initial ambush but the exact timing he couldn't have done. That required being in Windhelm and seeing me leave it. A span of no more than two hours. There was no way he could have sent that note as a result. This situation was entirely different. This time he was here and could send word ahead via bird or familiar. I wasn't terribly worried about being ambushed again so long as it wasn't a master mage being sent at me though.-

Obviously that sounded like me being blinded by pride but I was VERY aware of how unreasonable my current defenses and skills were. One had to remember that I currently had not only master level swordsmanship but the power of She-hai` AND thu'um on top of high end adept skill in every school of magic. I was a bug character to put it bluntly. Perhaps not at the level of a legendary character but my powers and skills were flat out unreasonable below that level. Seriously though how do you fight someone who has no weaknesses? -

My body was thoroughly inhuman in durability, my skills too balanced to exploit and Lokjun was covered in enough defensive enchantments to make a fortress envious. To top it all off I had no family or close friends that could be taken hostage. Planning any sort of attack on me required an obscene amount of force to have any hope of success. Beyond my magic and swordsmanship though none of this was even known so more likely than not any attempts were doomed to fail. With that thought in mind I wrote off anything Ancano could send at me for this trip. -

I checked my lockpick count, my healing and disease cure potion stock and my food before finding everything satisfactory. Though I did spot a note and a strange pair of boots left in my plane of Oblivion in place of one of my wax sealed wheels of cheese that read as follows.

{Stopped by to grab a nip of cheese, wonderful stuff by the way. Thought Snippy might be getting lonely and made him some friends, kisses. -Uncle Sheo}

'That guy is going to give me no end of trouble isn't he?' I thought resigned to it.

Helplessly I could only take the boots out of my plane and look them over with a twitch in my eye. The things were not only bright aggressive red but had no straps or laces and instead had like crimson crab legs that opened and tightened for a perfect fit. I once more brought the no doubt enchanted to Oblivion and back boots to Sergius to be looked over much like the hat.-

"The Madgod seems quite fond of you it appears. Not a good thing at all." he said worriedly.

"Believe me, I know. So what insanity has he put into these boots, beyond the obvious of course?" I asked helplessly.

"Hmmm, give me a moment." he said as he set the boots on the enchanting table and used one hand to hold them there as the legs on them tried to move them off.

He spent a good five minutes with a deeply focused expression and eventually stood up straight and handed the boots back to me.

"Well there is good and bad news, which would you prefer first?" he asked.

"The bad news." I said without hesitation.

"The bad news is he's apparently rather insistent about you visiting the isles. There is another two working invitations to the plane woven into the enchantment, one for each boot. As if that wasn't bad enough each of the invitations are entirely different yet somehow all achieve the same thing." he said with a look of both being impressed and annoyed simultaneously.

"I hope to the gods that I'm not his new favorite person or some insanity like that. It never ends well for the person involved." I said with a genuine concern.

"That would be less than ideal yes. To be fair though he also loved to mess with Shalidor as well so maybe it's not all bad." he said trying to be helpful and failing.
