"New?" Aren repeated what she said. "What does that even mean?"
"Fresh failed batches," Eveline said. "They come from the forest beyond Tigan. The villagers call it the Forest of the Dead."
"They wander out of the woods starving. Some still remember how to speak but most don't. Some can be calmed if they are brought to him quickly enough."
By 'him', is she referring to their 'god'?
"And if they aren't brought to him?" Miu asked after a while, catching the implication.
"Then they either die, kill, or run until someone else kills them."
"But let's talk about that later. Come on," she turned, motioning them with her hand to follow. "Let's go to the village mayor's house. Shen told me he should be willing to talk."
They followed her shortly after.
Her not being a local was evidently clear, as she pulled out a paper and looked at vaguely drawn instructions, probably from Shen.
