"This is…" Devon's fingers tightened on the sofa he leaned against. He almost couldn't comprehend what he was watching.
Half of a city—wiped out overnight.
His eyes darted to Orion.
As always the little boy seemed unfazed by the terrors shown on TV. On the contrary, his eyes gleamed with interest as the broadcast went on, showing different angles of the void within the city.
He turned his head to Ambrose next.
The Guide was quiet. Almost too quiet. His eyes were distant, posture rigid, as if he was afraid the dangers on the television were going to claw out and grab him.
That confused Devon.
It was normal to feel disturbed by something of this magnitude. But something about the way Ambrose stared seemed…personal.
"Rose?" He couldn't bear the silence, squinting when Ambrose finally tore his eyes off the screen. "Are you okay? You… spaced out."
