Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Hi lads.

Been a while since my last update.

Unfortunately this is going to be a bit of a shorter chapter than usual, only by a 1000 words but due to the fact that there isn't much taking place in this chapter.

But the chapter after will be a different story.

Now with that said, please enjoy.

Start:

The entire coliseum erupted in blinding light as the artificial dimension collapsed.

And for a single heartbeat—the Underworld held its breath.

Then, from the heart of the arena, a golden flame surged upward like a divine beacon, radiant and roaring. As the light receded, two figures emerged in its wake: Naruto Phenex, standing tall and composed, golden embers trailing from his cloak… and some distance behind him, a single kneeling figure—Yukino Agria.

The silence shattered like glass.

The crowd exploded.

Cheers thundered across the coliseum with a ferocity that shook the air. Waves of screaming voices poured over the arena—civilians, nobles, elders, and soldiers all on their feet, shouting with every fiber of their being.

"NARUTO! NARUTO! NARUTO!"

The name echoed again and again, deafening, relentless. Banners bearing the Phenex crest flew high. Magical sigils ignited the sky in celebration. Broadcasters and communication screens across the Underworld lit up simultaneously with the same message.

Victory.

Inside the announcer's booth, the veteran host stood frozen, mouth slightly agape. Even his practiced, booming voice faltered under the magnitude of the moment.

"L-Ladies and gentlemen…" he finally managed, his throat dry. "It's over. The battle is over! Naruto Phenex has defeated not just Lord Furcas and his Queen… but the entire peerage. Sixteen devils—all elite—and he fought them alone. And he won!"

The cheers only grew louder. Some nobles dropped their drinks. Some civilians burst into tears. What they had witnessed wasn't a battle.

It was legend.

Ajuka Beelzebub who sat beside the announcer through out the entire rating, had his arms crossed, his expression unreadable—save for the quiet glint of mirth in his emerald eyes.

"Well," Ajuka murmured with amusement, more to himself than anyone else, "he certainly knows how to show off."

Two hundreds years later, and he still had the same tendicies.

In the center of the arena, Naruto finally lifted his gaze to the stands.

His cloak fluttered gently as he took in the sight—thousands cheering, chanting his name. A warm, lopsided smile touched his lips, and after a pause… he raised his right hand and waved.

The crowd erupted again.

A fresh wave of applause and roaring cheers surged forward like a storm, sweeping through the stadium in a frenzy of admiration. That simple gesture, that quiet acknowledgment from the man at the heart of it all, sent the arena into euphoric chaos.

But Naruto had already moved on.

His eyes had locked onto something else—someone else.

At the far edge of the platform, partially hidden by rubble and lingering steam, Yukino Agria remained on her knees. Her white cloak was wrapped tightly around her small frame, her silver armor dulled by ice and blood.

She was trembling.

Naruto's expression softened immediately. He started toward her, each step purposeful, his presence drawing attention without asking for it. As he walked, the noise of the crowd slowly dulled in his ears. It no longer mattered.

She did.

Now there was nothing wrong with basking in the glory of the cheering crowd, Naruto certainly enjoyed it, but there was an issue to do so when someone else was vulnerable to the world, helpless as the attention of the entire underworld was on them and on her.

Yukino sensed him before she saw him. Her head snapped up, eyes wide, breath caught in her throat. She tried to rise—but her legs refused. Her arms trembled uselessly, her fingers clutching at the edge of her cloak.

Then—he was there.

Naruto stopped beside her. Without a word, he bent down and swept her up into his arms.

"Eh—w-wait—!" Yukino gasped, red blooming across her cheeks. Her eyes darted around the arena—but the moment she realized how exposed she was, she buried her face in his chest with a soft whimper.

He held her close, shielding her with his body, and turned away from the crowd.

The cheers followed him.

The roar of the Underworld's approval chased their footsteps as Naruto strode calmly across the platform, Yukino nestled safely in his arms.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The roar of the crowd thundered across the arena, echoing like a war cry that refused to die.

But in the VIP booth above the chaos, silence reigned.

Lord Bael sat motionless in his high-backed obsidian chair, his purple eyes fixed on the monitor hovering at the center of the room. The display still shimmered with golden embers, remnants of the explosive end to the battle they had just witnessed.

Not a word had been spoken since Naruto Phenex reappeared with Yukino Agria in his arms.

Not a breath had been drawn too loudly.

Lord Furcas, one of the highest-ranked devils in Bael's inner circle… was gone.

Along with his entire peerage.

Slaughtered.

Effortlessly.

And yet… it was not the death itself that disturbed Lord Bael. Death was expected in Rating Games of this nature, even permanent ones. What disturbed him was how easily it happened.

As if none of it had mattered.

As if all their preparation… meant nothing.

One devil against Lord Furcas and his entire peerage and while he had expected the defeat of Lord Furcas, it was the ease of it, of how Naruto didn't sustain any injuries, and seemingly had more power in spades to spare that caught him off guard.

And though it may have seemed otherwise due to the outcome of this rating game, Lord Furcas was quite a powerful combatant, he and his queen were easily considered ultimate-class devils.

Bael's eyes traced the frame of Naruto's silhouette. The image of that final, all-consuming blast—golden, pure, and godlike—lingered in his mind. He had known Naruto was powerful, yes. But this? The sheer scope. The control. The composure.

The boy had walked through death like it was a doorway and returned untouched.

Bael's jaw tightened.

"…He's stronger than I remember," Lord Sallos muttered quietly, his voice rough.

Lord Zepar remained silent, arms crossed, his mouth set in a grim line. Even he—known for his biting arrogance—had no mockery to offer.

Agares, ever composed, leaned forward slightly in his seat. His fingers were laced together, elbows resting casually on the arms of his chair. "It was decisive," he said simply, tone unreadable.

But inwardly?

He was… pleased.

The match had been spectacular. Brutal, fast, unrelenting. Naruto had not only showcased overwhelming strength—but restraint. Intelligence. Dignity. Even in victory, he had protected the girl… that quiet act alone spoke volumes to Agares.

As far as he was concerned, this was among the best outcome and best events that had struck the underworld in its entire history of existence.

And to think there was more to come… Lord Agares had to really fight the smile that nearly crosses his visage.

"What are we going to do?" Lord Zepar asked cautiously, his gaze locked on the true ruler of the underworld.

Bael didn't speak.

Not yet.

His gaze remained on the screen, watching as Naruto calmly exited the battlefield with that girl in his arms. The flames around him had dimmed, but his presence… that weight… lingered.

Deep within the pit of that cold silence blooming in Bael's chest… something stirred.

Excitement.

"…Incredible," he murmured at last.

Sallos turned, frowning. "My lord?"

Bael's lips curled—not in a smile, not quite. But something close. Something colder.

"He's better than expected," Bael said, standing slowly. His voice was quiet, but every syllable carried weight. "I was beginning to worry this game would bore me."

Sallos blinked. "You're pleased?"

Zepar scowled. "He just wiped out Furcas and his entire peerage—"

"I know what he did," Bael cut in, his tone sharper now, though still calm. He turned to face the others fully, purple eyes gleaming faintly beneath the crystal lighting. "But I expected it. I knew Furcas most likely would lose. That was part of the design."

"Part of the design?" Zepar echoed, incredulous.

"Of course," Bael said, clasping his hands behind his back. "We needed to see what Naruto Phenex had become. And now… we know."

Sallos eyed him warily. "You planned for Furcas to die?"

"No," Bael admitted, "but I suspected he might. That's why Furcas went first. He was useful… but replaceable. And now we have a seriously good idea of Naruto is capable of, his thought process, his battle rhytems, his techniques… we can plan and strategize properly from there."

"Though make no mistake, even with our strategies, he'll still remain a difficult adversary."

Agares' fingers tapped once against his chair's armrest. Cold. Efficient. That was Bael's way. But even in a world built on blood and power, there were lines—and calling a centuries-long ally "replaceable," so quickly after his death…

It was distasteful.

Even in the world they lived in, where it was a constant political battle and one used the other, Lord Bael was among the most cruelest and vindictive of them all.

In a stange way, he was certainly most deserving of his title as the devil king.

But that was precisely why Lord Agares wished to change the underworld, and it would all start to change, gradually, after they got rid of the root of the problem.

Bael turned back toward the viewing window. The cheering continued to rattle the sky. Banners of flame and gold lit up the crowd. Naruto Phenex's name was on every tongue.

"So, what now?" Sallos asked.

Bael didn't turn. "Now? We give the Underworld its spectacle. We let them worship their golden heir. Let them cheer for his fire. Let them think he's untouchable."

He paused, purple eyes narrowing slightly.

"And then we remind them," he said softly, "why devils like us still rule."

Agares tilted his head slightly, voice calm. "You really think he'll be easy to bring down?"

Bael finally smiled.

"No," he said. "I think he'll be the hardest opponent I've ever faced."

He turned fully now, walking back to his seat with long, composed strides.

"And that," he added as he sat once more, "makes this more entertaining than I ever hoped."

Agares said nothing. But his gaze lingered on Bael for a long moment, as if reading deeper than the words alone.

Then he turned back to the monitor.

And he smiled, ever so slightly.

Under the watchful gaze of a thousand enchanted screens, the moment the artificial dimension collapsed in on itself, Naruto and Yukino vanished from the battlefield in a flash of burning orange light—teleported via a magic circle.

They reappeared in a quiet corridor within the Phenex estate. The soft glow of golden sconces lit the ornate marble halls, their steps muffled by the thick crimson carpeting that lined the floor. The chaos and noise of the coliseum were a distant memory now—replaced by calm, warm silence.

Naruto still held her.

Yukino Agria lay in his arms, bridal-style, her delicate fingers clutching faintly at his cloak. Her face was flushed a deep, fiery red, and her heartbeat echoed in her ears with thunderous volume. Every now and then, she would steal a glance up at his face—only to immediately hide in his chest again, completely overwhelmed.

She'd never felt more embarrassed… and more safe.

He didn't say anything at first.

Didn't tease her. Didn't ask how she was feeling or make light of the situation.

He simply walked.

Steady. Calm. Focused.

Yukino couldn't understand how someone so warm—so impossibly powerful—could move with such tranquility after what he had just done. Her mind still swam with flashes of it. The battle. The devastation. The power that had reduced Lord Furcas and his entire peerage into nothing.

He had been terrifying.

But now, carrying her like she was something fragile and precious…

He was just warm.

The doors to the medical wing loomed ahead, carved with the Phenex family crest—a regal phoenix wreathed in fire. As they drew closer, two nurses stepped forward, their expressions morphing from surprise to immediate professionalism upon seeing who had arrived.

"My Lord!" one nurse gasped, bowing deeply. "We weren't informed you'd be returning so soon—"

"I brought someone who needs care," Naruto said simply, nodding toward Yukino. "We'll speak in a moment."

"Yes, of course."

The double doors opened automatically with a pulse of magic, revealing a pristine, softly lit room. Marble floors gleamed under the enchanted lights, and clean, white bedding lined the neatly arranged medical cots.

Naruto carried her inside and walked toward one of the beds positioned near a large window. Gently, he lowered her onto the mattress, his movements careful—almost reverent.

Yukino's body tensed instinctively as she was laid down. She sat upright immediately, eyes wide, fingers knotting the edge of the blanket tightly in her lap.

"You'll be okay," Naruto murmured softly, standing before her with a warm, reassuring smile.

"I-I…" She swallowed, trying to compose herself. "…Th-Thank you… L-Lord Naruto," she stammered, bowing her head deeply. "I-I mean, I-I don't… I'm j-just so—"

"Yukino," Naruto interrupted gently, raising a hand. "I'm not one for formalities. Just Naruto is fine."

She blinked in surprise. "I-I… I can't… I-It wouldn't be proper—"

Naruto tilted his head slightly, crossing his arms loosely. "Proper? I'm not a fan of titles. I don't like being put on a pedestal."

"B-But you're…" Her eyes flickered up to meet his, hesitant. "…You're Lord Naruto Phenex."

He chuckled quietly, the sound rich and gentle. "I'm still just a man, Yukino. A man who likes being called by his name."

She stared at him, torn between propriety and the strange warmth his words stirred in her chest.

Then, slowly, she nodded. "N-Naruto…"

He smiled—an honest, soft smile that made her stomach flutter.

"There. See? Wasn't so bad," he teased lightly, and her lips curved upward into the tiniest of smiles.

He gestured toward the bed again. "Lie back. You need rest."

"I-I'm fine," she mumbled, cheeks puffing into a subtle pout.

Naruto raised a brow, feigning indifference, and plopped down beside her on the edge of the mattress, lounging casually with an exaggerated sigh of comfort. "If you're fine, then I'll take this spot."

Yukino pouted harder, shoulders stiffening. "T-That's not fair…"

How could he just lie down so causally next to her? He was a man and she was a woman, an innocent maiden.

And as though reading her thoughts, Naruto shrugged before chuckling lightly. "Life rarely is."

She huffed softly, not daring to push him off—but the warmth of his presence beside her, so close and yet so calm, settled something anxious inside her.

The door creaked open.

One of the nurses peeked in. "Shall we begin the scan, my Lord?"

Naruto shook his head, voice low but clear. "Not yet. Give us a few more minutes. Then come in and do a full diagnostic. If she needs it, give her a tear."

The nurse bowed immediately. "Understood."

The door closed again, and silence returned. Not heavy this time. Not tense. Just quiet.

Yukino stole a glance at him.

He wasn't looking at her.

Just sitting, relaxed, letting her breathe.

She bit her lip, unsure how to begin, unsure if she even should.

And yet, her heart no longer raced in panic.

It still raced—but it was different now.

"…C-Can I ask you something?" Yukino finally spoke, her voice small but clear.

Naruto turned his head, his expression open and encouraging. "Of course."

She hesitated. "I… I was wondering if you planned to add more to your peerage. Or if you were going to keep it just… me. assuming I joined…"

A brief smile tugged at Naruto's lips. "Eventually, yes. I plan to add others. But I'm not in a rush. If it's just you for a while, that's more than fine."

"O-Oh…" Yukino murmured, her fingers brushing her lap. "And… why me? I-I mean, I'm not strong. I don't have any prestige or noble blood. I'm… I was given away like a gift. I'm not…" She trailed off, her voice cracking.

"You stood your ground," Naruto said quietly.

Yukino's eyes widened.

"You had no reason to protect anyone. No reason to interfere. But you still stood between me and someone you didn't even like. Even while trembling. That's more strength than most people ever show."

She bit her lip.

"You don't need noble blood. You don't need to be the strongest or the smartest. You need to have a spine. A heart. And a mind of your own. You showed me all three."

The words sank into her like sunlight in winter. She clutched the blanket tighter to her chest, blinking rapidly.

"…Thank you…" she whispered.

Naruto nodded.

Yukino took a shaky breath. "And… if I joined… what would that mean? For me, I mean?"

"You'd live here, at the estate," Naruto said, shifting to face her more fully. "You'd train, study, and grow. You'd be treated like a person, not a tool. You'd have your own room, your own schedule. No chains. No demands you're not willing to meet."

"…I-I wouldn't… have to be a c-consort, would I?" she asked, the words tumbling out before she could stop them. "I-I don't mean to insult you, it's just… that's what some peerages use their women for. As property. As…"

Naruto's gaze darkened—not with anger at her, but with something far colder.

"No," he said firmly. "You're not a slave. You're not property. And anyone who ever made you believe that was worth less than dirt."

Yukino swallowed hard. Her shoulders shook.

"You will never be used here. Not by me. Not by anyone. I swear that to you."

"…T-Thank you…" she said, tears forming at the corners of her eyes.

Naruto stood, his expression softening again. "Whether you join or not… I meant what I said back in the rating game. Even if you choose not to join, and I can understand why you wouldn't want to, you'll have a safe and prosperous life. I promise."

He turned toward the door, hand reaching for the handle.

"…I'll join."

Naruto paused.

He looked back at her slowly. Yukino sat up straighter, her hands gripping the edge of the bed.

"I… I could've thought about it more," she said softly. "But no matter how long I wait… everyone's going to remember me as the girl who was spared."

Her eyes met his—clear, wide, and resolute.

"But I'd rather be the girl who was defeated… and then rose again. Who chose something better. Who became more."

A slow smile spread across Naruto's face.

"…Then I'm glad to have you, Yukino."

Her cheeks turned pink again, and she looked down with a shy nod.

"…W-What piece would I be?" she asked, almost afraid to know the answer.

Naruto grinned.

"Queen."

She blinked.

"W-W-What?!" she sputtered. "N-No! T-That's too much! I-I'm not qualified—I'm not strong or smart enough—!"

"You will be," Naruto said simply. "And I've already decided."

"But—! The Queen is—!"

"The Queen," Naruto interrupted gently, "is someone I trust. Someone who represents me when I'm not around. Someone who acts as my second. And I trust you."

She looked like she might faint from embarrassment.

"I-I-I—!" she sputtered helplessly, her hands rising to her cheeks, which now burned a deep, vivid red.

Naruto turned back toward the door, letting her flail.

"Get some rest," he said, pulling the door open. "The nurses will be in soon."

"…Queen…" she whispered again, her voice dazed.

Just before the door closed behind him, Naruto glanced back once more.

"And Yukino?"

She looked up.

His grin was teasing. "Try not to overthink it. You've already earned it."

Then he was gone.

Yukino sat there, gaping, stunned, heart thundering in her chest.

And slowly…

Inevitably…

A smile bloomed across her lips. Shy. Soft. And undeniably giddy.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The room was quiet again—though not for long.

Barely five minutes had passed since Naruto had left, but Yukino still sat on the bed, curled up under the blanket, her thoughts spinning. Her heart hadn't slowed. Her cheeks still burned. Her eyes were fixed on the closed door, as if the echo of his footsteps still lingered.

Queen.

The word repeated in her head like a drumbeat.

He had meant it. Every word, every promise. And he'd left so casually, after saying something that turned her world upside down. Her mind had never felt so full—and yet so soft, so strangely warm.

The door clicked open again.

Yukino blinked, then straightened as two nurses entered.

The first was tall and slender, with an elegant face framed by neat auburn hair tied into a bun. Her expression was calm and composed, her eyes sharp and clinical. The tag on her uniform read "Leena." She moved with the grace of a professional who had seen everything and remained perfectly unfazed.

The second nurse, however, was something else entirely.

Maya.

Curvaceous, radiant, and entirely too confident for Yukino's peace of mind. She strode into the room like she owned it, her every movement exaggerated by the way her wide hips swayed beneath her tight white uniform. Her breasts—massive, round, and far too bouncy—strained against the buttons of her top, each step making them jiggle distractingly.

She had deep green eyes, a full, glossy mouth curled into a lazy smile, and wavy scarlet hair that fell around her shoulders in a tousled mess of seduction.

"Oh my~," Maya purred, hands on her hips as she leaned forward slightly—just enough to give Yukino a full view of her cleavage. "So this is the lucky girl."

Yukino's face turned beet red.

"I-I'm not—! I-It's not like—!"

"Relax, sweetheart," Maya crooned, her voice velvet-soft and edged with playful mischief. "You don't have to explain anything. We all saw how Lord Naruto carried you out like a prince in a fairytale. And you? Oh, you looked so comfy in his chest—like a little kitten wrapped up in a big, strong blanket of muscle."

"I-I-I was not—!" Yukino squeaked, clutching the blanket to her chest and nearly shrinking into the mattress.

Leena chuckled from the side as she activated a scanning circle above Yukino's lap. "Maya, don't tease the poor girl too much. She's had a long day."

"I'm just admiring what I saw," Maya said with mock innocence, placing a finger to her lips and tapping playfully. "And besides… can you blame her?" Her hips gave a playful wiggle as she leaned in closer, her perfume filling the air—sweet, floral, and just a little too alluring. "If Lord Naruto looked at me like that, carried me in his arms, I'd swoon so much then faint right on the spot."

"Y-You're terrible…" Yukino mumbled, though a tiny, shy smile tugged at her lips.

Leena smiled gently as she examined the scan results. "Vitals look good. Some light bruising, surface-level mana fatigue, and a minor magical burn near the shoulder. Nothing serious."

"Should we give her a tear?" Maya asked, glancing down at Yukino with a raised brow.

Yukino's blush deepened.

"She's definitely earned it," Leena replied with a nod.

Yukino didn't respond. She was too busy trying to breathe through the embarrassment while Maya leaned back and flashed her a wink.

"So, Yukino…" Maya teased with a sultry grin. "Any plans to share the bed with our lord in the future? I plan on seducing him soon if it helps."

Yukino squeaked and dove under the covers.

Muffled beneath the blanket, one could hear her say, "I-I'm going to die…"

And the two nurses just laughed—Leena softly, and Maya with a little too much glee.

At the same time, elsewhere, Naruto had barely stepped into the outer corridor of the Phenex estate when he heard the unmistakable sound of hurried footsteps—rapid, uneven, and growing closer by the second.

Then came the voice.

"My Lord!"

Before Naruto could brace himself, Raven Phenex rounded the corner, eyes glistening and mouth stretched into a grin of pure, overwhelming joy. In a flash, he dropped to his knees—and threw his arms around Naruto's leg, hugging his quads and clutching it tightly as if Naruto might vanish again at any moment.

"You magnificent, blazing miracle of a man!" Raven blurted, half-sobbing, half-laughing. "You are absolutely amazing, the pride and joy of our clan!"

Naruto raised a brow. "...Raven?"

"Not just a win—the win!" Raven cried, tears now freely rolling down his cheeks. "Did you hear them? The entire Underworld is chanting your name! They couldn't stop screaming it!"

Naruto sighed and tried to squirm out… unsuccessfuly. "You can stop clinging to my legs now."

"No," Raven said immediately, his voice muffled as he leaned his cheek against Naruto's thigh. "Give me a moment. Just one. I need this."

Naruto stared down at him. "You're seriously crying."

"I am," Raven declared, wiping his eyes without letting go... somehow. "And I'm proud of it! Do you know how long it's been since I've felt this proud? This vindicated? You've brought glory back to our name. You've torched our enemies. Lord Bael's smug little face? I'd pay to see the look on it right now."

"Fucking little cunt is probably crying to his momma right about now." The former Phenex lord added gleefully.

A snort of laughter escaped Naruto as his chest rumbled.

"And Yukino!" Raven then brought up suddenly. "You carried her like a knight from the legends. The whole world saw it! The way you walked off that battlefield, cloak billowing, not a scratch on you—you were absolutely cool, my lord!"

"I was just getting her out of the spotlight," Naruto muttered.

"Even better!" Raven sobbed happily. "You were considerate, too! All the woman in the stands were swooning and almost all of them were jealous of Yukino."

Naruto sighed again, though a smirk tugged at his lips. "Okay. Now you're just embarrassing yourself."

If it had been anyone else clinging to his legs, Naruto would have gotten removed from their clutch, but he did have a soft spot for Raven who endured so much for him.

As such, the only thing he could do was sigh and look around awkwardly in hopes no one would see this scene and come to…conclusions.

Unfortunately for the once hokage, he just wasn't that lucky.

That was made very apparent as a faint gasp echoed from around the corner. A young maid—barely more than twenty—stood frozen at the end of the hall, tray of refreshments trembling in her hands. Her wide hazel eyes were glued to the sight before her: Lord Raven, eyes puffy with tears but with a massive smile, arms wrapped around Lord Naruto's thighs.

Her cheeks turned beet red in an instant.

Naruto noticed her and blinked. "Uh…"

"Don't mind me!"" The maid squeaked and quickly turned on her heel and scurried off without another word, her face nearly steaming from the mental image she was no doubt going to misinterpret forever.

"…That's going to be a rumor, isn't it?" Naruto muttered.

"Without a doubt," Raven said proudly.

Exhaling hard, Naruto looked down and getting the picture, Raven finally loosened his grip, standing slowly and straightening his robes, though he kept sniffing dramatically.

"Go find that maid and explain the situation to her at once."

"Yes my lord." Raven saluted before he turned around and sprinted to where the maid was, leaving behind a somewhat exasperated but amused Naruto behind.

End.

I hope you all enjoyed it, it was a short chapter but that concludes the events of the first rating game plus the reactions after.

Next chapter will be longer!

And definitely more interesting, so stay tuned for that.

Take care lads.

Peace.
