Chapter 2 - JOURNEY TO GIZA

Maya Fitti was not just any travel blogger—she was endlessly curious, always chasing adventures that others might only dream about. Her blog brimmed with stories of hidden places, cultural wonders, and spontaneous journeys that reflected her restless spirit. For Maya, every trip was more than content; it was a chance to uncover mysteries and connect with the world in unexpected ways.

Beside her through every adventure was Lisa, her best friend and loyal videographer. Lisa's steady support balanced Maya's impulsive energy, turning wild ideas into memorable journeys. Together, they were a team—Maya with her boundless curiosity and Lisa with her practical eye—capturing not just destinations, but the heart of every story.

San Jose del Monte, Bulacan – One Week Before the Journey

The late-afternoon sun filtered through the curtains in Maya's kitchen, casting golden streaks across the tiled floor. She sat at the table with her laptop open, spooning halo-halo from a tall glass. Beside her was her best friend and loyal videographer, Lisa, typing furiously on her phone.

"Uy, Maya, don't you think this is too sudden?" Lisa asked, concern in her voice. "Yesterday you just mentioned Egypt, and now you're already booking tickets? What if your savings disappear again on flights and accommodations?"

Maya chuckled, setting her spoon down. "I know, besh! But I can't explain it—something about the pyramids of Giza keeps pulling me. It's like… I'm connected to them somehow. And besides, this is perfect for my vlog. My viewers have been waiting for something new, and what could be more exciting than uncovering Egypt's ancient mysteries?"

Lisa sighed, shaking her head with a smile. "You're unstoppable once you've decided. Fine, I'll go with you. But promise me you'll think about the budget. Maybe we can include other sites too, so the trip is worth it."

"Of course," Maya replied, her eyes sparkling. "We'll visit other archaeological sites, but the Great Pyramid of Giza has to be first. I feel like something—or someone—is waiting for me there."

Packing for the Journey

The living room was filled with half-open suitcases, clothes spilling out, and gadgets scattered across the floor. Maya carefully folded her dresses while Lisa tested the camera equipment.

Her Older brother peeked in, leaning against the doorframe with a mischievous grin. "Maya, are you really going to Egypt? Don't forget to bring something for me, ha! I want something cool, like a miniature pyramid."

Maya laughed, holding up a scarf. "Of course! I'll bring you something special. Maybe even a scarab charm."

Her brother smirked. "Scarabs? That's just a beetle! I want something more exciting."

Maya folded her clothes neatly into the suitcase, glancing at her older brother with a teasing grin.

"Don't worry, Kuya Adrian," she said. "I'll bring you something from Egypt—maybe even a girlfriend."

Adrian's eyebrows shot up. "A girlfriend?!"

Maya laughed, wagging her finger. "Yes! She'll be tall, strong, and loyal. Perfect for you."

Lisa, overhearing, nearly dropped the tripod and burst into laughter. "Oh no, Maya, don't tell me—"

Maya clapped her hands together dramatically. "Exactly! A girl camel. She'll walk you to work every day and never complain."

Adrian groaned, covering his face. "Maya, seriously? A camel girlfriend? You're impossible!"

Their mother chuckled from the doorway, shaking her head at the silliness. "You two never change. But seriously, Maya, Egypt is far. Are you sure about this trip? "

Maya softened, walking over to her mother. "Ma, I know it's sudden, but I feel like I need to go. It's not just for the vlog—it's something deeper. I promise I'll be careful, and I'll bring pasalubong for you and Kuya. Maybe not a camel, though."

Everyone laughed, the room filled with warmth and playful banter. It was a moment of lightness before the weight of destiny began to unfold.

Giza Plateau, Egypt – Day of Arrival

The desert air was dry and heavy, carrying the scent of sand and stone. After a long flight and drive from Cairo, Maya and Lisa finally stood before the towering pyramids. The sight overwhelmed Maya, and tears welled in her eyes.

"Lisa, they're enormous! I can't explain it—I feel like I've come home," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Lisa adjusted her camera, capturing Maya's awe. "Maybe you were born here in another lifetime, besh. Come on, the tour guide said we can enter now."

As they walked toward the pyramid's entrance, Maya's gaze drifted to the ground. Something glimmered beneath the sunlight—a small object half-buried in the sand. She bent down and brushed it off with her fingers.

It was a golden pendant, engraved with a scarab and a compass rose, resting on a stone that resembled a Desert Rose. The petals of the stone shimmered faintly, as if alive.

"Lisa, look at this!" Maya called. "I just found it here. The design is beautiful."

Lisa leaned closer, eyes widening. "Wow, it really is! Maybe another tourist dropped it. But hey, maybe it's lucky. It could bring you good fortune."

Maya slipped the pendant around her neck. Instantly, a warmth spread through her chest, sharp yet comforting. For a moment, she thought she heard a faint whisper carried by the desert wind: You were not mistaken. You are here now.

Her eyes widened, and Lisa noticed. "Hey, are you okay?"

"Yes, besh. Maybe it's just the heat," Maya replied, forcing a smile. But deep inside, she knew the sensation was different—like a hidden memory stirring.

They continued toward the pyramid's entrance, the massive stones looming above them. The guide explained the history, but Maya barely listened. Her fingers brushed the pendant, and every touch sent a ripple of energy through her.

Inside, the air was cooler, heavy with the scent of dust and age. The walls were covered in hieroglyphs, their symbols whispering stories of kings, gods, and forgotten promises. Maya filmed everything, but her mind kept drifting back to the pendant.

As they approached a chamber said to hold the sarcophagus of a long-forgotten prince, Maya felt her heartbeat quicken. The pendant grew warmer, and the whisper returned, clearer this time: I will wait for you—even forever.

She froze, her breath catching. Lisa nudged her. "What's wrong?"

Maya shook her head. "Nothing… I just feel like this place is alive. Like it's watching me."

Lisa laughed nervously. "Well, it's ancient. Maybe it is."

But Maya knew it was more. She didn't realize that the pendant had unlocked a doorway—not just to history, but to a love buried for thousands of years.
