Chapter 1 - A terrible night

Part 1: The Whispering Grove — English Version

There was an old bamboo grove at the edge of the village.

People called it "The Whispering Grove" because at night the wind passing through the bamboo made strange, whisper-like sounds.

Some said it was just the breeze, but the children never liked walking near it after dark.

One evening, the electricity went out, and the whole village was covered in darkness.

Sayan, a teenager, was standing near his window when he noticed a faint light outside—

a soft glow, like someone holding a lantern and slowly moving toward the bamboo grove.

He thought it might be a neighbor.

But something felt strange…

The lantern's light didn't move the way a person walks.

It just stayed in one place, shining steadily, as if someone—or something—was just standing and waiting.

Sayan looked away for a moment and then checked again.

The light was still there…

exactly where it had been.

Then, from inside the bamboo grove, a small tap sound echoed.

Sayan's heart jumped.

"Who could be there this late at night?" he wondered.

Suddenly, the lantern light began to move—

very slowly…

an inch at a time…

as if it were floating rather than being carried.

His heartbeat quickened.

Just then, the electricity came back.

Lights flickered on inside his house.

He rushed to the window—

The light was gone.

The bamboo grove was completely dark and silent again, as if nothing had ever been there.

The next morning, when Sayan mentioned what he had seen,

he learned that no one had gone outside the previous night.

Everyone had stayed indoors because of the blackout.

And the bamboo grove?

Nobody had entered it after sunset for almost twenty-five years

Part 2: The Whispering Grove — English Version

After the strange light disappeared that night, Sayan couldn't sleep.

The image of that unmoving lantern in the bamboo grove kept replaying in his mind.

The next evening, he decided to walk to the edge of the grove—

not inside, just close enough to see it in daylight.

As he reached the spot, he noticed something odd.

Right where the light had been standing the night before,

the bamboo leaves were covered with a faint layer of ash…

as if something warm had been resting there for a long time.

But that wasn't the strangest part.

Sayan suddenly heard a soft whisper,

almost like someone saying his name:

"Sayan…"

He froze.

The sound wasn't from in front of him.

It came from behind.

He turned quickly—

but no one was there.

Only the empty dirt path and a quiet breeze.

The whisper came again, this time clearer:

"Don't follow the light…"

Sayan stepped back, heart racing.

He didn't know who—or what—had spoken.

But he knew one thing for sure:

Whatever he saw last night…

it hadn't been a person with a lantern.

And whatever was in the grove

didn't want him coming any closer.
