Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 — Adoption

The Tanaka couple looked up and saw a small, dark-skinned, purple-haired loli with an adorable face.

At this moment, Jahy had already changed out of her extremely skimpy outfit and put on one of Tanaka Masao's shirts.

It was a shirt Tanaka Masao had worn back in middle school. Although it was a bit small compared to his current size, on Jahy it still hung all the way down to her knees.

As for what she was wearing underneath the shirt—Tanaka Masao didn't have any suitable clothes for her.

And Jahy-sama, of course, didn't care in the slightest and chose to go commando without hesitation.

Seeing Jahy suddenly appear like this, Tanaka's parents froze for a moment.

Then, the very next second—

Tanaka's father quickly shut the door and locked it.

Tanaka's mother, meanwhile, grabbed Tanaka Masao by the ear and scolded him furiously, her tone full of disbelief and frustration.

"Masao, how could you do something like this? This is illegal! Did you leave any traces? You absolutely can't let anyone find out!"

After a round of total chaos and panic, the Tanaka household finally calmed down.

The four of them sat on the living room sofa, and Tanaka's father asked,

"So… you're saying this little girl is a poor, homeless child, and that's why you brought her home?"

Tanaka Masao nodded. "Yes. That's exactly it."

This was the explanation he had prepared in advance: Jahy was a stray child he'd picked up.

And honestly, it wasn't that far from the truth.

Tanaka's mother let out a sigh of relief. "That's good. I thought you'd done something terrible."

After saying that, she looked at Jahy with some confusion and asked,

"She's such a cute child—are you sure she's really an orphan? Could she have just run away from home? Masao, did you check with the police?"

Tanaka Masao answered with complete confidence.

"I already went to the police station. There's no household registration information for her."

Hearing that, the Tanaka couple didn't question it further.

Even though society was stable and there were welfare institutions like orphanages, it wasn't unheard of for one or two children to wander for years without ever being registered.

Jahy herself was extremely cute and naturally likable, and on top of that she had this "tragic" background.

The way Tanaka's mother looked at her was filled with pity and affection. She stepped forward, gently stroked Jahy's head, and said soothingly,

"You must have had such a hard time all these years… even your skin has gotten darker."

Being suddenly patted on the head by a human, Jahy instantly became unhappy.

She, Jahy, was the second-in-command of the Demon Realm—how could she possibly allow an ordinary human to touch her head?

Just as Jahy was about to explode, she saw Tanaka Masao desperately signaling at her with his eyes.

That look clearly said: endure it, or everything is over.

Seeing this, Jahy clenched her teeth, balled her fists, and closed her eyes in deep humiliation.

[Ding, Corruption +10]

Seeing Jahy like this, Tanaka's mother mistakenly thought she was suppressing her sadness, trying not to cry.

On the other side, Tanaka's father spoke up.

"Masao, what are you planning to do now that you've brought her home?"

"I want to take her in."

Tanaka Masao gave the answer he had already decided on.

The Tanaka couple exchanged glances and nodded at each other.

Tanaka's father: "I don't have any objections."

Tanaka's mother: "I've always wanted a daughter anyway. Your name is Jahy, right? Would you be willing to stay and live with us?"

Having endured the head-patting and finally achieved her goal, Jahy let out a quiet sigh of relief.

[Since you're providing me with a place to live, I'll forgive you for touching my head.]

Jahy nodded. "I'm willing."

Suddenly having such a cute daughter, the Tanaka couple were both very happy.

Tanaka's mother: "I'll go prepare dinner."

Tanaka's father: "I'll tidy up a room and also look into the paperwork for her registration. Masao, take care of Jahy for now."

The couple got busy, leaving only Tanaka Masao and Jahy in the living room.

Jahy sprawled lazily across the sofa, looking like someone who had completely exhausted every last bit of strength.

"Phew… it's finally over. I'm exhausted."

"Hey, you barely did anything. You didn't even say much. How are you tired?"

Watching her like this, Tanaka Masao increasingly felt that this so-called 'second-in-command of the Demon Realm' was heavily padded with water.

"What do you know?!" Jahy protested, waving her small fists angrily.

"It's precisely because I didn't do anything that I'm tired!

To put on that whole act, I had to desperately hold myself back and not explode. Do you have any idea how hard that was?"

"I don't."

Tanaka Masao showed her no mercy at all and sat down on the sofa as well.

"Alright, now you're settled. Over the next few days, just cooperate and get your ID and paperwork sorted out."

"ID? Why would I need a human identity?"

"If you're going to operate in the human world, having human identification is obviously more convenient.

Things like traveling, buying stuff—you need it for all of that.

And if you're searching for magic stones and they end up scattered far away, are you planning to walk there yourself?"

Hearing that, Jahy stopped arguing and decided to cooperate with them to get the documents done.

If she had enough magic power, she could just fly to look for magic stones—but right now, she could barely even maintain her form, let alone fly.

At that moment, Jahy looked again at Tanaka Masao's chest and spoke.

"I see you have a suit of armor. Lend it to me. I'll return it once I've recovered the magic stones."

Seeing the small hand reaching out toward him, Tanaka Masao slapped it away without hesitation.

"You've got some nerve. That's my precious treasure—there's no way I'm lending it to you."

Jahy pulled her hand back and blew on it with her mouth. It clearly hurt, and she said irritably,

"Fine, don't lend it to me. But did you really have to hit me?"

She said that out loud, but her eyes never left Tanaka Masao's chest.

Her perception was extremely sharp—she could sense an object containing immense energy stored there.

Unfortunately, that energy wasn't magic power, so she couldn't absorb or use it.

She guessed it was the power system of Tanaka Masao's battle armor. With energy that strong, the armor itself had to be incredibly powerful.

If she had that armor, she could definitely collect the magic stones much faster.

[I need to think of a way to steal it while he's showering or asleep.]

Jahy began plotting in her head.

As for what would happen if she failed and got caught—

Jahy-sama had never once considered that possibility.
