Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

Matthew knew it. He had become the target of beings he knew very little about and which were clearly powerful.

"The rational beasts, which are powerful beasts, are planning to break the balance of the forest and cross the imposed boundaries," was the half-hearted answer Matthew offered.

"Why?" the beautiful Elf woman asked urgently.

"Who knows? Sometimes balance is suddenly broken to generate changes that result in a new balance similar to the previous one," Matthew said.

The Elf woman felt that Matthew was not telling everything he knew, but she also knew that it was useless to try to get information from someone stronger who refused to give it.

"I will withdraw for the moment," the Elf woman said.

"Remember, I will not attack your people unless you attack first," Matthew's words were a warning that she understood very well.

The Elf woman left, jumping between the trees using wind spells with which she increased her agility.

Matthew remained sitting and leaning against a tree.

The C-rank zombie dog stood up and began to roam around on its own looking for prey to feed on.

"Why are there only strong beasts during the night? And why haven't I seen beasts with a power lower than those beasts that come out when the moss shines?" Matthew asked the Fairy who had remained close to him.

"They are in other territories," was the Fairy's response.

"Surely they are in some territory controlled by the rational beasts. Are they preventing new powerful beasts from emerging? It's likely. If they want power, they won't want to lose the power they currently possess either," thought Matthew after hearing the Fairy's response.

"Do those beasts want you?" the Fairy asked timidly.

"If you know the answer, why are you asking?" Matthew replied, looking at the Fairy.

"If those beasts come here...everything will be destroyed," The Fairy let bright tears fall down her face.

"So, you want me to become food for those beasts. That's absurd," Matthew replied without anger.

The Fairy did not know what to say and was afraid of angering Matthew, whom she considered a being of unknown nature.

"Why don't you answer some of my questions straight away? Maybe then I'll find a long-term solution," Matthew said.

The Fairy nodded in agreement.

"The Strange beast that caught you earlier is an ally of those rational beasts?"

"No, it is not," replied the Fairy.

"I assumed so, that's why it acts so mysteriously giving me information and hints about the environment. That beast wanted to prevent the rational beasts from eating me first," Matthew concluded and then asked:

"Are the rational beasts allied?"

"A fragile alliance. They want power and do not want to lose it. But they all consider all living beings as potential prey and the allied rational beasts are no exception"

"Thank you, that was a good answer," said Matthew who began to think silently as the minutes passed.

A few hours later.

"I doubt they will act soon, but in case they do, I can try to escape. The portal through which I entered this dimension is not an option, it must currently be surrounded by the inhabitants of this world. In a few more days I will be able to buy another "monster pill." If I could wait here until I had several pills it would be a pretty lucky outcome, but relying on luck alone is usually fatal," Matthew looked at the treetops and the filtering light.

Sometimes the zombie dogs brought Matthew insects they found in the environment.

Matthew put a red grasshopper with black spots in his mouth and chewed it and swallowed it, then ate a plump beetle that exploded when chewed.

As time passed, and there was little he had to do, Matthew sometimes stood up and walked around.

The Fairy seemed anxious to see that Matthew had not taken action regarding the rational beasts.

"Ally or enemy, I can only count on time. I will be patient, at least until I buy another 'monster' pill," at that moment Matthew looked into the depths of the forest again.

"I feel the same or something similar to what I felt several hours before. Apparently something is subtly watching me deep in the forest right now.

The Fairy hid behind Matthew.

At that moment, Matthew ordered his "C-" rank zombie dog to walk in front of him to take advantage of the moment and stuff the only pill he had left into his mouth.
