Chapter 2 - Ascension

The hooded man walks relentlessly under the blazing, red-hot sun on the planet closest to the sun, without pausing for rest, food, or water.

This planet knows no night due to its proximity to the sun. Time passes without indication, as the sun remains fixed in the sky, and the desert stretches endlessly in every direction. The hooded man presses forward as days seem to blend together, the desert revealing only more desert. At last, high above the horizon, a peak appears—so tall it seems to touch the sun.

Without stopping, the hooded man continues toward the distant peak. He walks until he reaches a crossroad where the desert gives way to a field of molten lava. On the other side stands the peak, now revealed to be a colossal volcano, perhaps the largest in the universe. Without hesitation, the man leaps into the lava field, sinking knee-deep into the molten flow.

The lava sizzles and erupts around him, but he trudges forward, seemingly unharmed. The lava clinging to his body falls away, revealing bandages wrapped around him, also unscathed. He presses on through the lava toward the volcano.

At the halfway point, with the volcano looming closer, four enormous monsters made of lava and rock rise from the molten depths. They growl in the hooded man's direction, but he doesn't falter. One monster leaps from the viscous lava with ease, arms raised to strike. The man raises his head as the creature nears at high speed, then leaps to meet it head-on in midair. The monster, stunned to find its target so close, swings its arms, but the man is faster. Using both hands, he clamps onto the monster's chest, fingers digging into lava and stone, and with a surge of force, tears the creature in half. The two halves plummet into the lava below.

Landing, the hooded man wastes no time. He charges at the remaining monsters rushing toward him, dismantling them one by one in quick succession. Their bodies spray sizzling lava as they crumble into the molten field. More lava monsters rise, but each is torn apart as swiftly as it appears. Soon, the lava field falls silent again. The hooded man stands briefly, anticipating more threats, but none emerge. He continues toward the volcano.

Upon reaching the volcano, he sprints forward and leaps, grabbing an edge and hurling himself upward. He climbs swiftly at first, but halfway up, his pace slows considerably as the pressure and heat intensify to unbearable levels. White smoke pours from his body as the bandages wrapped around him begin to catch fire. Still, he presses on, climbing steadily as the heat and pressure mount. Nearing the summit, the man hurls himself up and stands at the edge of the erupting volcano, its fiery maw spewing lava from every side.

The man walks toward the volcano's center, his body now fully ablaze, his once-white bandages charred black and crumbling to embers under the combined heat of the sun and the volcano. Unrelenting, he reaches the edge of the crater and, as the volcano surges toward eruption, dives headfirst into its molten core.

Silence envelops the lava field, broken only by the volcano's constant eruptions. The sun looms motionless above the planet as time stretches on without marker. The volcano continues to erupt, showing no signs of stopping, as hours seem to pass.

The days stretch as time moves with no indicator until suddenly, the lava flowing below the volcano sputters, and the ground trembles. The volcano shakes violently, the entire planet quaking in response from the lava field to the desert and the distant fields strewn with giant hammers. The earthquake intensifies, and cracks spiderweb across the volcano as lava pours from the fissures. Rocks, large and small, tumble down as the shaking grows fiercer. With a deafening boom, the volcano and its surrounding area explode. A brilliant, red-hot flame surges upward from where the volcano once stood, growing brighter as it ascends into the sky. The flame breaks through the planet's orbit, rising into the vast emptiness of space, far above the planet's massive sun.

The crimson fire begins to recede, contorting and reshaping itself. The immense blaze takes the form of a man standing tall, still ablaze. He gazes down at the planet below, where the sun hovers close. Under his gaze, the sun stirs, slowly ascending and creating significant distance from the planet before halting. The planet, in turn, begins to move, orbiting the sun at a slow, steady pace. Behind it lies the debris of other planets some frozen, others shattered from colliding with stars after losing their orbits.

The blazing figure surveys the space before him, where a lone planet now orbits its sun. Without a word, his form disperses completely, as if it had never been there, leaving the vast expanse where the solitary planet continues its orbit.
