Lianhua's heart remained steady. "Your Majesty's guidance is always my compass," she replied.
The Dowager leaned forward, eyes narrowing. "I offer you an ultimatum, Shen Lianhua. Continue to serve and observe, remaining cautious and obedient… or pursue ambition openly, knowing that every step will be watched. Choose care, and you survive. Lianhua lowered her gaze, measuring her words. "I understand, Your Majesty. I will act with wisdom and patience."
A faint, approving smile touched the Dowager's lips. "Good. Remember, the palace rewards precision, timing, and discretion. Misstep once, and even skill and cleverness cannot save you. Consider this your final warning."
Dismissed, Lianhua returned to her quarters, the weight of the ultimatum heavy upon her shoulders. The Dowager had revealed the stakes: survival was no longer enough. Every move, every alliance, every whisper must now be calculated with absolute care.
