Chapter 312 - Under the Same Sky

The continent did not tremble when the gods fell silent.

There were no celestial trumpets.

No cracks appeared in the sky.

No voice descended from the Thrones.

The world simply… kept breathing.

The wind moved across the fields.

The waves kept striking the shores.

And for the first time in countless centuries, humanity moved forward without feeling the invisible weight of a divine will watching from above.

Lusian was sitting on a grassy hill, far from the Mother Tree and far from the sky that once tried to condemn him.

The night stretched across the horizon in absolute calm.

It was no longer devouring darkness.

No longer fear.

It was peace.

In the distance, small scattered lights could be seen between cities and villages. Places that had lived entire generations praying for protection, fearing divine punishment and wars decided by beings that never once touched the earth.

Now those lights shone quietly, without understanding why the world felt different.

Lusian understood.

He heard footsteps approaching behind him.

He did not need to turn around.

The Demon Queen sat beside him in silence, as if that place had always belonged to her as well. The wind gently moved her dark hair as she looked at the same horizon he did.

There was no tension between them.

No strategies.

No war.

Only silence.

Only rest.

Shortly after, a small weight leaned against Lusian's side.

The guardian girl, overcome by sleep, settled beside him with complete naturalness. Her small hands clutched the black fabric of his clothes, as if even asleep she needed to make sure he was still there.

Lusian lowered his gaze.

And for a very brief moment, he stopped being the God of Darkness.

He stopped being the man who had faced demons, heroes, and gods.

He was only someone observing what he had chosen to protect.

The Demon Queen slowly rested her head on his shoulder.

—Is it over? —she asked quietly.

Lusian lifted his gaze toward the sky.

It was no longer broken.

No longer distant.

It was just the sky.

Calm.

Infinite.

Free.

—No —he replied calmly—. Now we can live.

The wind swept once more across the hill.

Darkness slowly wrapped around them.

Not like a prison.

Not like a curse.

But like the only place they could, after everything, call home.
