Chapter 218 - Awakening of the Demon Queen

The light filtering through the stained glass fell across the marble like a living mosaic. Colors shifted, pulsed—like the room itself was breathing with her.

Elizabeth opened her eyes. The glow in them was like an inverted dawn: beautiful, inevitable… and dangerous.

The silence in her chamber was suffocating. No servants. No priests. No members of the cult watching her with fear disguised as reverence. Only her… and the echo of something ancient breathing beneath her skin.

Elizabeth rose slowly. Her hair, once soft and golden, now seemed to absorb the light. Her heart beat with an ancient rhythm—far too ancient to be human.

It was an echo.A memory.

Thousands of lives. Thousands of deaths… sacred blades piercing her chest, spears of light reducing her kingdom to ash, human prayers crying out for her destruction. She always awakened. Always devoured kingdoms. Always died in the name of the gods.

A perfect cycle.A useful monster.

Her fingers trembled against the edge of the bed. There were no runes. No divine marks. The ritual had failed. For the first time, nothing bound her.

And within that void—free of commands—something else pulsed through her. It was not divine. It was not hatred. It was something warm, unexpected, unmistakable:

Lusian.

Elizabeth remembered him. Her heart beat for him—lover, ally, savior. He had not existed in her past lives… and yet now everything seemed to fall into place.

That heart had never chosen demon kings. Not once. That heart had never been hers.

Until now.

Was this love? Was it destiny? She did not know. But she did know that, for the first time, she was free.

And then, a smile formed on her lips—delicate, and terrible all at once.

"So this is… freedom."

For the first time, the Demon Queen did not wish to destroy the world. She wished to live in it. Without permission. Without gods.

And if the world tried to kill her again…

Her eyes shone like a dawn that burned instead of illuminated.

"Then it will be the world that learns to fear."
