Chapter 174 - The Night That Ignited the Conflict

Lusian ordered a camp to be raised before nightfall.

The professional soldiers secured the perimeter with disciplined efficiency, while the civilians improvised tents and campfires under the watchful eyes of the captains.

When darkness finally settled over the camp, Lusian was about to step out of his tent to supervise the changing of the guard… when Emily burst in without warning.

Their exchange was brief in words, yet heavy with restrained and unresolved emotion.

Emily looked at him with a mixture of defiance and need; he, with the tension of someone who knew every gesture would be misinterpreted. She stepped forward, closing the distance between them, and the air inside the tent grew dense—almost electric.

What followed did not go unnoticed. Every breath, every murmur filtered through the canvas, a silent message that was impossible to ignore. It was not accidental, nor passion unleashed at random.

It was a warning.A declaration.A provocation.

Emily made sure her voice—sighs and murmurs included—could be heard beyond the thin walls of the tent.

It was not chance. It was not passion. It was a message.

Princess Elizabeth, whose tent was not far away, paused in her reading when the echo of those sounds reached her. She said nothing. She did not move.

She simply closed her book with calm deliberation… and took a slow breath.

So that's how it sounds when a woman claims her territory.

It shouldn't hurt… but it did.

Alejandro, from his own sector of the camp, clearly saw when Emily entered Lusian's tent. He stayed awake late into the night, waiting to see her come out.

But she never did.

When the sun finally rose, Emily stepped out of Lusian's tent at last, walking with a satisfied, calculated expression.

Alejandro clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white.

The conflict, once silent, had just become an open war.
