Chapter 63 - Chapter 62: The Truth Game

It started with boredom.

A week after the shadow attack, everything was normal again. Too normal. Classes, meals, arguments about coffee. The same thing every day.

"I'm bored," Lyra announced at dinner.

"No one asked," Daniel said.

"I'm telling you anyway. We need something fun. Something exciting."

"The last time you wanted something exciting, we got attacked by shadows."

"That was DIFFERENT. That was supernatural. I mean regular exciting. Like a game."

Adrian looked up. "What kind of game?"

Lyra's eyes sparkled. "The best kind. Truth or Dare."

The Crimson common room was packed.

Word spread fast. Truth or Dare with the President and his girlfriend? Everyone wanted to watch.

Jay was nervous. "This is going to be terrible."

"Probably," Keifer agreed.

"Why are you calm?"

"Because I have nothing to hide."

"You have EVERYTHING to hide."

"I hide it well."

"That's literally the opposite of having nothing to hide."

He smiled. "You love me anyway."

"Yeah." She leaned against him. "I do."

Lyra stood in the center, holding a bottle. "Okay everyone, circle up. Rules are simple: bottle spins, person it points to chooses truth or dare. If you refuse, you have to kiss someone. Anyone. Your choice."

"THAT'S NOT A RULE," Jay protested.

"It's MY rule. I'm in charge."

"Since when?"

"Since now. Sit down."

The first few rounds were harmless.

Adrian chose truth. "What's your most embarrassing memory?" Lyra asked.

Adrian thought. "I once tried to impress a girl by explaining magical theory. She fell asleep."

Everyone laughed.

Mila chose dare. Had to sing a song. She was terrible. It was perfect.

Bella chose truth. "Who's your celebrity crush?" She turned bright red. Refused to answer. Had to kiss Adrian on the cheek.

Adrian's face went even redder than Bella's.

"INTERESTING," Lyra noted. "Very interesting."

Daniel chose dare. Had to do twenty pushups. Did them easily. Showed off.

"Someone's trying to impress someone," Mila muttered.

Daniel's ears turned pink.

Then the bottle landed on Keifer.

The room went silent.

"Ooh," Lyra breathed. "President Watson. Truth or dare?"

Keifer looked at Jay. She shrugged.

"Dare," he said.

Lyra grinned like she'd won the lottery. "I dare you to say something romantic to Jay. Out loud. In front of everyone. Without breaking eye contact."

The room erupted in whispers.

Jay's face heated. "Lyra—"

"Rules are rules." Lyra pointed at Keifer. "Go."

Keifer turned to Jay. His eyes were steady. Soft. Completely focused on her.

"Jay," he said quietly.

The room held its breath.

"I used to think love was weakness. Something that made you vulnerable. Something to avoid." He paused. "Then you crashed into me in that hallway. Yelled at me. Called me arrogant."

Jay laughed softly. "I did."

"You did. And instead of being angry, I was... intrigued. No one had ever talked to me like that. No one had ever looked at me like I was just a person, not a title."

His hand found hers.

"You made me feel human. You made me feel alive. You made me want to be better, not because I had to, but because I wanted to deserve you."

Jay's eyes burned.

"I love you," he continued. "Not just for the way you make me feel, but for who you are. Loud. Brave. Stubborn. Wrong about coffee."

She choked on a laugh.

"But perfect. Perfect for me. Perfect in every way that matters." He squeezed her hand. "I didn't know I could feel this way. I didn't know I could be this happy. And it's all because of you."

The room was dead silent.

Jay was crying. "Keifer..."

"Truth or dare?" he asked softly.

"What?"

"I picked dare. Now it's your turn."

She laughed through her tears. "Truth."

"What's the moment you knew you loved me?"

She didn't hesitate.

"The closet."

He blinked. "What?"

"When we got locked in that tiny room. You were so close. So calm. You said you liked me, and I couldn't answer because I was too scared. But in that moment, I knew. I knew I loved you. I just couldn't say it yet."

He smiled. That real one. Only for her.

"Worth the wait," he said.

"Totally worth it."

The room EXPLODED.

"THAT WAS THE MOST ROMANTIC THING I'VE EVER HEARD—" Lyra screamed.

"I'M CRYING AGAIN—" Bella sobbed.

"His SPEECH—her ANSWER—this is CINEMA—" Adrian was writing so fast his pen smoked.

Mila just smiled. "Finally. The closet story."

Daniel wiped his eyes. Pretended he wasn't. "I'm not crying. It's allergies."

"There are no allergies in here."

"THEN IT'S DUST."

The game continued, but no one could top that.

The bottle landed on Jay again later. She chose dare.

"I dare you," Lyra said, "to kiss him. Right now. For at least ten seconds."

Jay didn't hesitate.

She grabbed Keifer's face and kissed him.

Deep. Long. Ten seconds easy.

The room counted. Loudly.

When she pulled back, Keifer's ears were pink. His eyes were dazed.

"Wow," he said quietly.

Jay grinned. "Wow indeed."

More screaming. More chaos. More tears from Bella.

The game ended near midnight.

Students drifted back to their rooms, buzzing with excitement. The stories would spread tomorrow. The speeches, the kisses, the romance.

Jay and Keifer walked slowly to his room.

"You really meant all that?" she asked quietly. "What you said?"

"I meant every word."

"Even the part about me being wrong about coffee?"

"Especially that part."

She shoved him. He didn't move.

"I love you," she said.

"I love you too."

"More than coffee?"

He pretended to think. "Tie."

"KEIFER."

"I'm kidding. Obviously you."

"You hesitated."

"I didn't hesitate."

"You totally hesitated."

"I didn't."

"DID."

"DID NOT."

"DID."

"DID NOT."

He kissed her. She kissed back.

The argument could wait.

The next morning, Lyra's whiteboard was legendary.

Jay stared at the board. "Game-proof?"

"You survived Truth or Dare with the whole school watching. That's love."

Keifer nodded. "Accurate."

"You're still agreeing with her."

"She's still right."

Lyra beamed. "I'M ALWAYS RIGHT. NOW SIT. EAT. I NEED TO DOCUMENT YOUR COFFEE ARGUMENT."

They sat.

They ate.

They argued.

Normal. Perfect. THEIRS.
