Chapter 10 - THE PART WHERE REUNITES WITH HER SISTER

Mia had seen her sister, touched her, and even hugged her in a way she had not in months. Mia had so many things to say to her baby sister, but it was not the right time. And her sister also had a lot to say to her, most of which she was not supposed to. When Diane had seen the light and had almost been sent to the other side, she had survived on a condition. A condition that now held her in a position where she knew the truth but no longer had the luxury to say it.

Diane looked at Mia with sadness in her eyes. How could she do that to her own sister who took care of her for so many years? Diane could not control the tears as they began to flow out of her eyes like a spring. Diane felt like she would have told Mia about it from the moment she had found out because now, she could not any longer.

 Flashback ***

As Diane struggled to catch her breath thst night, a huge figure hovered over her little frame as she gasped for air. The familiar man looked her dead in the eyes and, without hesitation, pushed the injection into her neck. And he did not stop pushing it in until the entire liquid had been emptied into her body. It was a special serum, one that he liked to call the antidote of forgetfulness. No one knows how he did it, but it made Diane lose some of her memory, specifically the ones that held secrets.

It was not until he placed the oxygen mask back on Diane's face that he reconnected the wire of the emergency button back to the extension on the wall, thus notifying the nurses. As Diane slept and woke up a few minutes later, she was better than when she had gone to bed. But just like her weakness, some of her memory was gone. Now, Diane knew that she had something very important to tell her sister… a secret, but she did not remember what the secret was.

So, as she looked at her sister, unable to convey what she was feeling, her only other response was to cry in frustration. "Hey, hey, it is okay, everything will be fine. You are fine, we are fine, shh, that is okay," Mia said as she tried to shush and calm her baby sister down. After a while, Diane had calmed down and was now fast asleep. Mia looked at her sister's sleeping frame, and suddenly, life was worth living again.

Suddenly, she no longer felt like throwing herself out of the window of the fifth flour of the building. She hurriedly wiped her tears of joy away as she kissed her sister on her forehead and tucked her in. Her eyes hovered over her for a while before she decided to go outside as return Cam's numerous calls. When Cam got the text, she wanted to come to the hospital and be with Mia as well but they needed one of them there to distract the boss from the fact that one of them had left earlier than they were supposed to.

As Mia was about walking out of the room, she sighted a tall frame at the glass part of the door. It was that man from earlier. What was he doing here? She asked herself. And how long had he been standing there for? She wondered as well as she walked toward the door. She walked out of the room, and just as she had guessed, it was him. He stood at the corner in an intimidating manner that made a part of her scared because of how big and dangerous he looked.

She did not say a word to him, instead adjusted her coat, and headed for the doctor's office. He had instructed that she met him after her reunion with her sister. As Mia walked in, she felt this heaviness come on her shoulders once again. It was now a familiar feeling that came with the office. She never heard good news in a doctors office. It was always something bad. "Oh, Mia, come on in," the doctor said, motioning with his hands.

He was a young, dashing man who somehow found passion in treating sick children and followed that passion until he became a children's doctor. He came from a wealthy family, which was why he did not mind the mediocre salary that they were being paid in the hospital. He had bonded with Mia over time due to her sister's unique case. He was the only reason her sister was still in the hospital and had not been thrown out on the streets to die.

"How are you doing, Mia?" he asked her like he usually did over the past year. He always made sure to know the mental health of his patient's guardian before he broke more bad news to them. Mia responded in her usual manner… a small "fine," and would directly go into asking about her sister. "Well, she happens to have what we call selective amnesia. You see, Mia, she remembers most things from her past, but some others seem to be none existent in her memory," he said.

"So, she does not remember our past? But she recognised me in there just now," Mia said to him, still confused. "Yes, she remembers you and some of your past together. But you see…" he began to explain in lay man terms to Mia. He tried his best to explain to Mia that although her sister still would not remember something, and may never remember them. After the explanation, the next topic came up, and it was about her huge outstanding debt.
