Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Dumbledore’s Challenge Letter

"If you get hungry tonight, go downstairs and eat. I'll settle the bill tomorrow morning."

Inside a room on the second floor of the Leaky Cauldron, Nymphadora was giving her instructions seriously and carefully.

"In the afternoon, a owl should come to deliver a letter for you. Remember, whatever you do, don't roast it. Once you get the letter, let it go..."

Only after making sure Goku had fully understood everything did Nymphadora Apparate out of the room.

She needed to go back and get reimbursed from Rufus. The money Rufus had given her hadn't been enough, and she had already spent all of her own as well.

"If I could learn that move, that'd be great."

Watching Nymphadora vanish on the spot, interest flashed across Goku's face.

He had noticed it in the morning. The people here who called themselves wizards all seemed able to use this technique that let them move instantly from one place to another.

He felt it would be extremely useful in combat, so he couldn't help feeling tempted.

Any technique that could strengthen him was something he was interested in.

"Time to start training!"

Buying things in the morning had already eaten up half the day. Naturally, he had to work hard in the afternoon to make up for it.

Tomorrow he was going to duel the strongest expert here, Dumbledore. He couldn't afford to slack off.

Honestly, even now he still didn't understand why preparing for a duel with Dumbledore involved buying all those strange items on the street.

But that was fine. If he couldn't figure it out, he simply wouldn't think about it. That had always been his way.

He hoisted the large wooden bed onto his shoulders and began doing one-finger push-ups.

The bed was far too light for him, but it was better than nothing.

He wanted to go outside to train, but before leaving, Nymphadora had told him not to wander around and to stay in the room.

Otherwise, if he got lost and they couldn't find him tomorrow, she wouldn't be able to take him to the station to catch the train to Hogwarts.

And so, Goku trained in his room for the entire afternoon.

Fortunately, this wasn't an ordinary inn, but a magical one.

If it had been a normal hotel, the noise Goku made while training in the room would have drawn complaints long ago.

Although the Leaky Cauldron looked old and shabby, every room had been enchanted with all kinds of magic.

Not only was it soundproof, it was also extremely sturdy.

After all, many of the wizards staying here often made quite a bit of noise in their rooms.

At six in the evening, when Goku felt hungry again and was about to head downstairs for dinner, a gray owl flew in through the window.

The owl landed on the table in the room, set down a pale yellow envelope, and didn't leave right away. Instead, it stared at Son Goku as if waiting for something.

Looking at the owl, Son Goku remembered Nymphadora's instructions. He forcibly suppressed the urge to grab it and roast it, and stared back at the owl instead.

Seeing that Goku made no move at all, the owl gave him a very human-like look of disdain, spread its wings, and flew away.

"Leaky Cauldron, second floor, Room 203. For Mr. Son Goku."

Goku stepped forward, picked up the envelope, and saw the writing on it. Instantly, he understood what it meant.

During the year he trained with Grandpa Roshi, Grandpa Roshi hadn't only guided their physical training. There had also been lessons in basic academics.

That was the year he learned how to count and how to read.

Of course, a single year wasn't nearly enough for him to recognize every character. At best, he only knew them roughly.

But for some reason, when he looked at the words on this envelope, words he didn't recognize at all, he could immediately understand their meaning.

It was the same as in the white space, where he could also understand the words written on the doors.

He didn't think deeply about it, because it wasn't important to him.

He opened the envelope, pulled out the letter inside, and read its contents:

"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, Grand Sorcerer of the Order of Merlin, First Class)

Dear Mr. Son Goku,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Enclosed please find a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on September 1st.

Deputy Headmistress

Minerva McGonagall"

"What does this mean?"

Son Goku scratched his head. He could understand every word on the letter, but when they were put together, he had no idea what it meant.

"Oh, I get it. This is a challenge letter from that Master named Dumbledore!"

Thinking back to his match with Tianlong back in the capital, realization suddenly dawned on him.

Chen Daquan had once told him that in the capital, when martial artists wanted to fight, they had to send a challenge letter in advance before stepping onto the arena.

He was going to duel Dumbledore tomorrow, so it made perfect sense for Dumbledore to send him a challenge letter today.

The two people in the duel were Dumbledore and himself. Their names were both written in the letter.

The location of the duel was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That was written as well.

As for the last person mentioned, Minerva McGonagall, he figured she must be the referee for their match.

After putting the challenge letter away, Goku happily went downstairs to eat dinner.

The Leaky Cauldron's food reserves once again fell into crisis, and the owner, Tom, went out overnight to restock ingredients.

After dinner, Goku lay down on the bed and slept soundly. When he woke up again, he appeared, unsurprisingly, in the white space once more.

Rubbing his eyes, Son Goku pushed open the large door labeled Harry Potter and arrived back in the second-floor room of the Leaky Cauldron.

After habitually doing half an hour of training, he went downstairs to eat breakfast.

Halfway through breakfast, Nymphadora walked into the Leaky Cauldron.

This time, she wasn't alone. Two other people followed her into the pub and came over to Goku.

One was a man and one was a woman. Both wore large glasses. The man was holding a very retro-looking camera, while the woman carried a notebook and a quill.

"Goku, this is Rita Skeeter, a special correspondent for the Daily Prophet, and her photographer, Angus Walker.

They'd like to do a brief interview about how you subdued the Dark wizard Alec Neil."

Nymphadora gave Goku a simple introduction, though there was obvious dislike in her expression when she looked at the two of them.

"I'm about to take him to King's Cross Station, so I hope you can be quick."

It turned out that after learning that the internationally wanted Dark wizard Alec Neil had been captured by the Aurors, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, had deliberately arranged this interview.

The purpose was very clear. It was to boost the prestige of the Ministry of Magic, and in turn, boost his own authority.

That way, he could rule the Ministry more effectively.

Nymphadora didn't object to interviewing Goku. What she disliked was the special correspondent, Rita Skeeter.

She knew very well that this reporter had no professional ethics. In order to create sensational stories, she often twisted facts and wrote fake news.

She had already anticipated that the outcome of this interview would definitely not match the truth.

And indeed, things turned out exactly as she expected. The content written by Rita's self-writing quill magnified the achievements of the Aurors and completely glossed over Goku's role.
