Chapter 97 - Rehabilitation of destruction

Milim had calmed herself down, her cheery personality and been completely broken down.

"You seem to have calmed down, are you ok? Am I still the worst now that you've gained rational thoughts?"

"Yes. Yes you are. I don't understand how you can cause me to go through such an experience and then make me relive it again. And yet you do it with such a perfect aggrievating smile."

My smile didn't fade, it just got bigger, "Apologies. It's a lesson I learned from my teacher. You should always wear a smile, it helps hide weakness. Isn't that what you were doing?"

Milim looked at my face, my extremely punchable face, "Why'd you do that? I mean everything you did back there."

"If you're talking about back at Walpurgis, well that was me testing out a new art. If you're talking about right now, well that was me trying to help you in my own sick demented way."

" I don't think it's best to keep something like that in. At some point, all that pent up emotion will just burst out of you all at once, and frankly that didn't go well the last time."

Milim looked at his face and wanted to do something about it, but the last time she provoked that face, it did not end well.

The other reason she didn't attack him was because the only person she found more repulsive then him was herself.

"Can you give me your opinion? Do you think I'm an awful person?"

"Like I said before, that's a very subjective opinion. Do you think you're a terrible person because that's the opinion you should really worry about."

" I… don't know? I've caused people so much pain and yet I only feel bad about it now."

I looked at Milim, my smile still plastered on my face. I felt so bad for making her feel this way but something inside me also was excited at the fact I so utterly destroyed the destroyer.

…How far I've fallen.

" You shouldn't denegrade yourself so much. You might have done some terrible things and there might truly be no redemption for you…but you're here now, aren't you?"

I brought Milim closer to me and tried to comfort her, " If you really want to feel sorry for yourself, then go ahead. You could also try to improve yourself."

"…Improve myself? How?"

" I don't know, but what I do know is that you can't regress on things of the past. If you let the past define you then you'll never be able to move forward."

"Tell me, you have stuff that you feel happy to have… like the sky Queen Frey, was it? I can tell you truly are fond of her."

"I…I do. I love her so much."

"If you were to suddenly regress and then disappear, how do you think she would feel? Will you really leave your friend like that?"

"…" Milim looked lost in thought.

" Your past might not have been a happy one but that doesn't define who you are. It's the rest of your story, who you choose to be."

Milim looked in his direction and saw tears coming out of his eyes. Milim looked on at that face and couldn't help but feel something else.

That smile that she originally looked at with repulsion.

…Now she just looked at with pity.

And now for the second time did Milim breakdown in my arms.

"It's ok Simon, I believe we can both better ourselves." Milim's smile beamed brightly through her tears.

" Feeling pity for me now. Please I don't need such pity from you." Although my words were harsh, Milim could tell that i didn't mean it.

Without any words, we just sat there at the ledge to the void of everything enjoying each others company.

I made a guest room and the tower and layed Milim down in bed, her face bruised with tears.

As Milim's chest went up and down slowly, I whispered to no one in the room, " Milim. I hope that at some point, you finally find a reason to truly live, to truly enjoy the things in life without destroying it."

"And if that doesn't happen, then I hope you finally gain some peace of mind for your actions and finally forgive yourself."

"…But under no circumstance should you change who you are, no matter what happens."

In the end, I couldn't get rid of that smile. Looking into a mirror, I could truly say…

…It was utterly repulsive.

Frey was sorting out documents for the development of a division of Andromeda in Fulbrosia.

Until a certain someone came to her door.

Seeing the recipient made Frey light up, "Hello Milim, you… seem… Are you ok?"

Frey felt the downcast mood of the girl Infront of her.

" Frey, am I a bad, selfish friend?" Milim's voice came out slow and breaking.

" Yes, obviously, why would you even ask that?" Frey's voice, despite carrying that elegance, was still slightly hurried in concern.

"Are you just saying that because you're afraid of me? Afraid of the potential damage I might cause"

Frey was caught off guard by this question and carefully contemplated her answer, " I will admit that your destructive tendencies can get out of hand but not once have I ever been afraid of you."

Milim slowly walked to Frey and hugged her, " Thank you."

Frey didn't know how to react but return her hug.

"Milim, is there something that happened with Pneuma? Did he do something to you?"

Milim let go slightly, " He didn't hurt me in anyway, all he did was show me what kinda person I really am."

" Listen Milim, there's nothing wrong with you."

" Yes, there is and I intend to make myself better. I need your help Frey."

Frey looked on at the girl with an indescribable emotion.

"Frey, I want to be a better ruler and friend. I want to be a better me."

While there was a touching moment between two demons lords, a wisp of invisible fog vanished from the castle along with an echoing whisper.

" Thus decrees Pneuma."
