A day later, in the morning, Adrian slept in one of the command center's bedrooms which was usually reserved for high-ranking personnel. His eyes fluttered open as the faint hum of the base filtered through the walls.
He stayed still for a second, staring at the ceiling.
Adrian turned his head slightly.
The digital clock on the bedside table read 0600.
He pushed himself up and swung his legs over the side of the bed. He walked toward the bathroom and pushed the door open with his shoulder.
The tiles were clean. The mirror was clear. The place looked like it had been sealed off from everything outside.
He turned the knob.
Water came out right away with a strong pressure.
He adjusted it until the heat settled, then stepped under the stream without hesitation. The water hit his shoulders and ran down his back, washing off the sweat and dirt that had dried into his skin from the day before.
He stood there for a moment, letting the heat loosen his muscles.
