Chapter 2 - Inheritances and Changes

Jonathan is the first child of Carmélia's mother, who became a mother as a teenager and faced many hardships to raise him. Shortly after, she met Carmélia's father at a party; a few days later, she discovered she was pregnant with Carmélia. She decided to tell the father, but he told her to have an abortion. Indignant, Carmélia's mother told him she wanted nothing from him and would raise Carmélia alone. When she found out she was having a girl, she was overjoyed. After Carmélia was born, her father began sending a monthly sum of money to help with her upbringing.

Eight years later, Bryan was born, the fruit of a great love that led to marriage and eventually divorce. Thus, Carmélia's mother continued raising her three children alone, with a few failed relationships along the way. Finally, when Carmélia was 12, her mother found her "great love." Because of him, her mother decided to change cities and lives—but this didn't just change the mother's life; it changed Carmélia's as well...

At 12, Carmélia's world underwent a drastic change. The "great love" her mother found didn't just bring a new relationship to the family, but the decision to abandon everything they knew—including old childhood friendships. Leaving behind her grandparents' house, the memories of sewing with old t-shirts, and the checkers matches was painful. Moving to a new city promised a new life, but for Carmélia, it meant carrying her domestic responsibilities into a completely unknown setting—or so she thought. Her mother's destiny was set, and Carmélia's was just beginning to be written on foreign soil.
