Chapter 8 - Regret and Despair

The next few weeks, all Yuki did was train, but he was also feeling concerned about Lucian and Amelia. He never heard from both of them once. Not a single call or text.

He had finished up his training and left as his body and mind had completely adapted to not sleeping.

He walked through the streets of Nytherra, then walked by a cemetery. He noticed many graves of the deceased, but yet, there were two graves that stood out to him. Yuki walked into the cemetery and walked over to the graves that had grabbed his attention.

As he arrived, his eyes widened in dread, seeing the names Amelia and Lucian on the tombstones had put dread and pain in him. He stood in front of the graves in silence. He wanted to cry, but yet, his body denies that option. Seeing the graves had made his emotions spiral downwards even further than it di before.

He was losing himself much faster emotionally. He then tried to force himself to cry, but he couldn't shed a tear. This had started bringing back memories when he was a kid who couldn't cry even if his family and friends had died. He was empty.

He left the cemetery and sighed. His eyes droops a bit, his exhausted expression becomes more visible. He had years of sleepless nights. He had given up in life, but part of him wanted him to keep fighting.

His training had enhanced his senses and skills in magic pretty quickly. His hair was disheveled from stress as he kept walking. He had no thoughts in his head, and the only thoughts were just nothing but pain.

At first, he had little care for others due to his dissociative behavior, but now, his mind, soul and body had dropped so deep into the abyss that in his head, he had stopped caring. He lost the ability to care.

That was when a mysterious magical beast had appeared in front of him. The magical beast glanced over to his direction and roared loudly. It was a large white, nine-tailed fox with the fur like snow.

Yuki: ...A magical beast?

It charged towards him as it has its paw out to slash down Yuki, but he avoided it. He took out the katana Lucian gave him, and sighed deeply.

It roared again, then its mouth was wide opened that a magical orb of flames was starting to form in the center. Yuki's eyes widened a bit, and in that moment, it let out the attack as it starts burning away the city blocks and the buildings around it.

Yuki, however, had disappeared and the nine-tailed fox's head was decapitated off the body and landed on the concrete. He was slowly falling into insanity as he was feeling merciless.

Yuki: I had enough of this... as soon as I get rid of this so-called death inducement curse or whatever it is, then I'll separate myself from everyone else. I'll stay in isolation... but for now.. I'll kill everything that gets in my way.. not out of revenge, but out of sorrow.. and pain.

???: Yuki... help us...

That same distorted voice was loud in Yuki's head again. Although, he gotten so used to hearing that same repeated line in his head that he could careless who it is or what it is that's speaking to him.

???: Please help us.

???: We love you.

???: Save us from this suffering.

Those voices kept speaking to him in his mind as he walked through the empty streets of Nytherra. He hadn't cared what truly happened anymore. In his eyes, hope was never a thing.

He wandered around of Nytherra, but then exited the city. He wondered about something. The voices he heard were all distorted which got his attention, but that wasn't the only thing. It was the tone of how these voices are saying it.

Yuki: These voices... distorted... and seductive. They're trying to lure me in...? What are these voices leading me to?

He was lost as he kept walking through the forests. He had carried his blade on his left hip, then heard footsteps. He stopped in one spot of the forest and examined his surroundings.

Yuki placed his right hand on the handle of the blade, and was ready. The bushes rustled loudly as a little bunny appeared. He noticed the white fluffy bunny as he squared down and had pet it on the head.

Yuki: What is a cute bunny doing out here....?

He mumbled to himself as he kept patting the bunny on the head. It then scurried off into the distance. There were a loud growl which caused a large flock of birds to fly away.

He looked into the direction of the growl and started running over to that spot of the forest.

There were trees that were annihilated around it. As Yuki arrived, the crater was much larger than expected. It had turned out to be a dragon known as one of the Umbryth Dragons.

Yuki: ...A dragon?

The dragon, Nyzharael, turned its head to Yuki's direction. It roared loudly as the large black-grayish scales on its body opened up, sending black flames towards Yuki.

He had avoided the attack with a new ability – Quick Step – and landed. He glanced at Nyzharael, and sighed.

Yuki: That attack... was brutal. It could've killed me... wait, since I dodged that attack...

He hesitated and glanced behind him with his eyes widened a bit in shock as it destroyed Nytherra. The entire city was wiped out cleanly from the world.

As he was distracted, Nyzharael charged towards Yuki with its claws out, ready to swing, but he glanced back at the dragon, then blocked the attack. Although it was blocked with his blade, the impact had sent him flying, skidding across the grass.

He had tried to land, but the impact of the attack was too much, until he had hit a mountain. He stopped as he hit his back against the mountain rocks. He sat against the hard rocks, now being a kilometer away from the dragon.

Yuki: ...Damn, so strong... the hell am I fighting against?

His thoughts was in shock as sweat drips from his forehead as he kept his katana up in front of him and his left palm behind his blade for reinforcements to reduce damage.

Yuki: Without my left hand being there... it could've hit me then decapitated me.

His hands tremble as he stood up slowly. He was getting stressed from the fight as his eyes narrowed a bit as he glanced down at his hands and blade. His exhausted expression remained for a bit before fading off his face.

Yuki then took some deep breaths as Nyzharael had appeared, covering a kilometer within a second.

He had no time to react as he glanced upwards from his blade. He was processing everything too late.

Yuki: ...Oh shi–

In that moment, he was smacked in the face with such brutal force by the dragon, which sent him so far back. He spits out blood from his mouth and tried to retain his momentum.

The dragon had appeared above him and stomped down on him, then causing him to fly downwards so fast that when impacting with the grass, it created a very large crater, but also caused him to cough up blood.

Nyzharael landed as he laid there on the ground, heavily bruised up and injured. It then grabbed Yuki by the body as he glanced at it while trying to remain calm, but the pain was building up.

Yuki: ...Fine then.

The dragon stared into his eyes with its purple-ish eyes, but when it gripped tighter, Yuki had moved his hand and touched its arm. With a single touch, it started removing all life energy from it.

Nyzharael glanced at his touch and let go as it collapses onto the ground, causing a loud thud. Yuki fell onto the ground and was heavily injured from being smacked around into a mountain.

Yuki: Damn... that hurts..

His cold tone was coming back after his encounter with the dragon. He sighed and started resting up for a bit. His expression became more tired than before, then stood up later on.

Yuki started going around the forest as a mysterious entity had watched and followed him. She chuckled as she followed from behind.

He wandered aimlessly through the forest, and the more land he covers by foot, the less he could find. That was the same for some time before he had heard a waterfall in the distance.

He started walking towards the waterfall, and had arrived in front of it, although the water was different.

Yuki: Hm...? This water... is different just by the texture. It's more clear than any water that I know of...

He stepped forward towards the large pool of water and noticed the visual differences. In that moment, the water immediately started changing color.

The mysterious entity had teleported to somewhere else, while Yuki stared at the water, seeing it change from a clear blue to a very pink-ish, golden color.

He stared at it for some time, until he was pushed into it by something invisible, causing him to fall into the pool of water, then transported somewhere else in the world.
