'It's a new day, my 2nd day in this world to be exact, and I only have a small idea on what I wanna do.'

Muzan thought to himself while lying on the roof of a considerably big house. This was the Toudou estate, where Kirin lived with her uncle.

'I've already learnt of the whole issue of Kirin, her father, and exactly what her uncle wants her to do.'

Apparently Kirin's father, Seijirou, was imprisoned for killing a robber who took Kirin hostage. Because he is a Genestella and the robber was a normal human, the action was not considered self-defense, leading to a harsh sentence.

The humans treat the superpowered individuals of their community as lesser than themselves, somehow.

While he was not exactly surprised, as this was not the first time he'd heard or seen something like this, he was once again stumped.

'Was humanity actually dumb perhaps?' The question resounded in his mind.

And then as a former human he concluded,

'Nope. It's just the leaders.'

Anyway, Kirin's goal at Seidoukan Academy was to win a Festa to free him. As has already been said, the winners of Festas receive one wish that, as long as it's possible, will be given to them by the Association.

And then there's the thing with the uncle.

Kouichirou acted as her guardian but was manipulative, slapping her and enforcing strict, abusive control when she didn't follow his orders or when she upset him.

He used her reputation and talent to further his own career, aiming to become an executive within the school's corporation.

He exploits her desire to free her father, abuses her when she disobeys, and forces her to fight to advance his own standing.

'...Yeah, I don't feel bad about that guy. Not a single bit.'

Muzan looked towards the path that connected the estate with the main road.

It was nice.

"Go and do your job." He said while looking on with a smile where "Uncle Toudou" was walking away. He was going to Seidoukan Academy quite early in the morning.

He needed to head out as well; can't be too late to his first day at school.

Kirin was walking towards the Academy. She was carrying nothing but her katana as that was the only essential needed for these academies.

But Kirin's mind was not focused. She couldn't help but recall the recent changes around her, and while not numerous, it still made her feel weird.

Today her uncle did not come to the dojo to inspect her practice, he was not present at dinner yesterday and at breakfast today either.

Usually she got to hear at least a few remarks from him every morning. But today, she hadn't even seen him.

And while she should be relieved, she couldn't get yesterday's events out of her head.

The way that boy had appeared and taken her uncle away, her uncle changed after that.

'Who was that boy?' She thought to herself. He had changed her uncle somehow; she was sure of that.

But she couldn't confirm anything, so she shook her head and continued towards her class. She had to prepare and go for practice again.

But as she looked up towards the academy, her eyes widened.

There in front of a few officials from the school, her uncle was standing, with that same boy from yesterday!

And as she looked at them, that boy also turned to look at her. She didn't know what was happening!

Muzan looked sideways to see Kirin Toudou had arrived.

'Oh good, we can do introductions right now.' He thought and smiled at her.

But the response he got was a scared stiff look.

'I don't think she was antisocial, right? Or maybe it's because I'm the same guy who kidnapped her uncle yesterday, and now I'm standing right beside him.'

That second possibility was of course much more likely.

After finishing his talk with the academy officials, Kouichirou turned and looked directly towards Kirin.

"Kirin, you've finally arrived." He said and walked towards her.

"Let me introduce you to your partner," he said while motioning towards Muzan.

"Meet Muzan Kibutsuji. He will be your partner from now on, and you will participate in the upcoming Festa with him." Kouichirou looked at Kirin deeply and continued to speak in a serious tone.

"Do not disappoint me, Kirin." He spoke sternly to her.

"You must perform excellently and win the Festa. That is the only way to save your father."

"From now on, do as Muzan says. He will help you in winning the Festa."

"...Ok, uncle." Kirin could only nod in compliance.

"Good." Kouichirou said, and he almost sounded relieved.

"Alright then, I'll take my leave." He turned towards the exit.

"I'll be gone for a very long time. I have a long trip and won't be here for the Festa. Now all is up to you two." He said and walked away, as if he wasn't just abandoning his niece to a suspicious strange boy.

Kirin could only stare; this was so weird, so weird in fact that she didn't even register exactly what her uncle had said until a few minutes passed.

"Hello, Miss Kirin." A voice reached her ears; it was the boy speaking.

"We meet again." He said with a smile while extending a hand.

"Uh yes! I'm sorry I didn't greet you earlier!" Kirin exclaimed and shook his hand while apologizing.

'Ah poor girl, such a sweet girl turned into a timid mouse.' Muzan reached out and patted her head instinctively.

"Ah sorry." He said and retracted his hand, but Kirin was already turning red.

"Ah! No, I'm sorry! Really sorry!" She bowed again and again.

"Woah!" His eyes went wide as he saw something that shouldn't be seen.

'Why was there so much movement? Wasn't this girl supposed to be 12 or 13 years old?!'

He was shocked, but in the end he could only pin it to anime logic. Such a vile phenomenon it was.

"Alright, calm down." He finally said while directly taking a step back, trying to calm her down.

"It's okay, we're going to be partners now."

"It's time for classes right now, but we should meet up later to get a bit more familiar with each other, you know, for teamwork and all that."

To be honest? Muzan was hella bored. The only thing keeping him in this world was the Festa and this cute timid girl.

He wanted to participate in the Festa, get a feel of that "Tournament Arc", and while at it he will also help this little girl get her father out of jail.

"Oh, I understand." Kirin nodded; somehow just talking to this boy had made her flustered.

He pulled out the "smart phone" of this world from his pocket to exchange contacts with her.

These smart phones, just like other tech from this world, run on mana and actually use Mana to connect with other tech, so no connectivity issues most of the time.

"How about we exchange contacts and meet up once we're done with our classes?" He asked while offering his phone with the contact screen already open.

"Oh! By the way, I'm also a highschool student of this academy now." He said while showing off his uniform.

Kirin nodded and then exchanged contacts with him. They promised to meet again after school ended.

And once that was done, Muzan walked away towards wherever his class was.

"...crap, I don't know where my class is though." He thought, glancing at the Class Slip in his hand.

The Seidoukan Academy has both middle school and high school in one place, so students don't really have to move around when they go from middle schoolers to high schoolers.

While looking around, Muzan started to consider his plans.

'While getting a good time in the Festa and all that is interesting enough, there's another thing that is much more important than simply fighting for fun or to help a girl.'

'And it's the wish part of the prize.' Muzan hummed while looking at the passing students; he chose to turn left, and bam, there it was. His class.

He went in and sat down in a vacant seat, and he also saw the average-looking guy from yesterday, the one who had fought with the Strega girl.

'These people truly promise everything for that wish. Anything that is in their hands can be given to a Festa winner.'

'Now of course that doesn't mean things that they themselves don't have like immortality or bringing someone back to life, but other material things? Yes. They can be given away as a reward.'

'And that is what I want from them, material things.'

Once the teacher came in, he went ahead and explained his situation as a surprise admission to the academy and even provided his identification papers.

Identity he got made just about a day ago with Kouichirou's connections.

'While I'm in this world I should just rob it of everything it can give me. Things like gold and silver? Those don't have that much value these days since the Mana element was introduced, so I'll take that!'

'I'll take your deposits! I'll take all gold and silver. Any platinum you got? I'll take that as well.' He grinned while sitting down in his seat.

His too strange, too wide, too stretched smile scared the student sitting beside him and he got up to change his seat!

Muzan, seeing this, realised his mess-up and calmed himself down. His excitement was getting the better of him.

'The thing is that since this world doesn't value gold and silver that much, he could take a substantial amount from here.'

'While the Mana element is of course much more valuable to these people, he didn't know how it will react and work in different worlds; however, gold and silver retain their value in most worlds.'

'I have a literal dimension to myself, and if I don't fill it up with stuff, what's the point of having it?'

Muzan wanted to smile again from his excitement but he controlled himself.

Of course there was the issue of someone asking why he needed these things since if he needed valuable things he could ask for money or literally any other stuff,

but he didn't care about what they thought anyway.

If they can give him this stuff then that's good; if they can't, well, then he will just move on.

The time spent in class was quite boring.

This place was much more dependent on duels and the fighting aspects of their lives, and he just realised how MUCH of that "much" he actually meant.

There were countless (not really) small arenas all around the city for unofficial or small-time duels, 7 medium-sized arenas for duels that are a bit more influential.

Think someone major from an academy dueling a teacher or someone else who is also a major presence in some other academy.

And lastly the 3 big arenas; these are treated as the holy grounds for the duelists of this city. The Sirius Dome being the most important.

The Sirius Dome is the centre of the city and also the major duel arena. It's the largest and also the most technologically advanced. The semifinals and finals of Festas are mostly always done in the Sirius Dome.

And these arenas (other than the 3 major arenas) are always in use.

Always!

Can you imagine? You have to book a dueling arena 2 days in advance to get your chance at the fight. And that's only for the common arenas!

Of course some people just duel wherever they want, but those are unofficial duels and are slightly in the illegal area, cause there's no security or surveillance and anything can happen during the duel.

So, yeah, duels are actually just as important here as duels are important in Yugioh, or maybe just a little less?

But the point is that most of the knowledge taught in this academy, at least right now, is all about duels! You barely get at most 2 hours a day for study subjects like maths, languages etc.

Of course things like science and everything are more focused on the Mana and Prana and whatever else goes on in this world, so those subjects are a bit more focused on.

The main subjects for study are usually focused around dueling. The rules to follow, the etiquette, the strategies to follow.

In the PE, or practical sessions, you could do mock duels against each other.

And that's it.

Sigh. No wonder humanity was still on top when these Genestella were so stupid.

Of course he wasn't generalising; there were all kinds of people in the world. Expecting all Genestella to be duelists and not study-oriented was dumb, and he wasn't dumb enough to think so.

Anyway, he wasn't interested in the science of this world anymore; he could learn to make things like Lux and all but, without the Mana element and the natural ability to generate Prana, he couldn't sustain their use for a long time.

He needed a bad Genestella, someone who could be absorbed without any guilt and would only help this world and society.

'But all that would come after the meeting with Kirin and having her become my partner for the Festa.' Muzan concluded while listening to the teacher teach.
