Chapter 2 - THE NIGHTMARE HAD BEGUN

That night, the storm was merciless⛈️.

Cold droplets struck like needles, piercing into the wounded skin of every soldier present. Both teams' members and the other comrades were gathered under thick trees on slightly elevated ground.

They had taken shelter there because the storm had grown so violent that visibility was nearly zero. The wind bent branches violently, and rain lashed sideways, making it impossible to aim or even see clearly in open ground🍃💨.

But shelter did not mean safety.

The pain was unbearable for all of them, blood mixing with rainwater🩸. The captains carried deeper wounds than the others, yet neither stepped back.

A few meters ahead of them, the land descended into a steep slope.

Beneath that slope, hidden in darkness, a violent river surged with dangerous current🏞. They were still slightly away from the slope. But the enemies were pushing them toward it.

Gunfire suddenly erupted from the opposite side.

Bullets tore through rain toward the trees.

The captain of Shadow Wolves and the captain of Moonlit Blades locked eyes.

Lightning flashed⚡️.

Their hands moved quickly.

He signed:

"They're driving us toward the slope."

She replied:

"River beneath. Strong current."

Another flash.

He signed:

"Bridge side too quiet."

Her gaze sharpened.

Among the enemy silhouettes, she recognized certain faces — not from the Italian mafia.

Different structure. Different formation style.

But she did not know which mafia group they belonged to.

She signed:

"New group. Not Italian."

His jaw tightened.

"Trap?"

She nodded.

"Two-sided pressure. Crossfire likely."

Before they could finish —

Gunfire erupted from both sides.

The trap had begun.

The captain of Shadow Wolves commanded:

"Listen, girls will take care of the forwarding enemies we are going back to the bridge to took down the enemies there and the members of Shadow Wolves will stay up, all other move to the save place with the wounded. Understood! please be careful and.."

He was cut off by a member of his team.

"Tsk! stop it, don't order us around, we know what to do, don't be bossy."

Earlier tension between the captains and certain team members had already been brewing. Pride. Ego. Overconfidence.

Now it surfaced in the worst moment.

Four members rushed forward.

For a second, he froze.

Disobedience in a coordinated battlefield.

He immediately shook of the thought about his team and ordered:

"Others, move back to the bridge protect yourself and take the wounded go to the entrance of this forest there is our back-up and medical team. I will go after them, now all others move."

At the same time, she commanded:

"Girls, let's move forward and fight the enemy's back-up and others go to aid the wounded in the bridge and go to the entrance of the forest, there is our medical team. Girls are you listening."

Only other comrades answered.

"Yes mam!"

Her team had already rushed ahead.

His voice came through her earpiece:

"Hey! They didn't listen to me and rushed forward, change of plan. You go to the bridge."

She replied:

"Same here, I am moving forward to back team up. I will inform the HQ and make them retreat."

He shielded her as she contacted HQ without any request from her.

"Captain speaking! Listen, I want you to make both team members retreat immediately. Their didn't obeying the command of us and moved forward towards the back- up of the enemy's that is too dangerous. I repeat make them retreat right away."

A senior officer rushed from his office in total shock and snatched the microphone🤯.

"What do you mean by 'not listening to both of your orders'?"

"This is not the time to explain, Sir, please understand the danger present here and order them to retreat or else we might lose them in this battle if we didn't stop them."

She continued:

"The new group of enemies are not from the Italian mafia but another mafia. I don't know which group. I recognized some faces. I will explain it when I return but first, we need to retreat before it gets worse."

Inside HQ, panic rose.

While the boy captain is caught in the words she said 'I recognized some faces' and the questions arise in his mind how, when, where and why she never mentioned anything about meeting other mafia groups but he didn't ask it loud to her.

But gave her a sharp look😾.

The HQ attempted to connect to the teams.

Suddenly, the communication system malfunctioned.

Screens froze.

Signals died completely.

HQ system collapsed🏢.

The captains tried to contact HQ but no response.

Before HQ went fully dead, they had tried to contact backup — but the line failed.

Then—

A satellite phone connected directly to the backup team📞.

The voice from the call said:

"This is from HQ. Do not enter the field. Others are going to retreat. This is the order from the captain."

Inside the field, when she had said retreat, it also meant something else - no backup.

Only she and the HQ can understand that hidden meaning.

Back on the battlefield, both captains and the two teams suddenly received another transmission:

"We found the boss with the group in the bridge, and they are retreating so go back to bridge and capture the boss, this mission is for u guys to do without the captain, the backup team will defeat the new threat."

Both captains froze😦.

HQ system had already died.

Then how—

Before they could question further, both teams' members rushed toward the bridge.

The other comrades were ordered by them to rescue the wounded from the bridge and retreat afterward by the captains were now moving away from the battlefield.

Everything was moving too fast.

Lightning flashed again🌩.

In the shadows, a man stood before the new troop.

For one second, his face became visible.

Recognition struck her🧍‍♂️.

She shouted:

"Don't move forward, it's the trap of enemy."

Even though they earlier disobey the captain order, her voice made them stop instantly.

Her tone was not calm😮.

It was shaken.

The Shadow Wolves captain noticed her panic state.

Immediately, he fired at the man in the shadows.

The bullet missed.

The man had already moved.

Before the lightning could strike the ground again-

She turned and ran towards her teams🏃‍♀️.

He ran beside her, shielding her from incoming fire.

The teams were being pushed closer toward the slope, near the bridge but losing ground because -

Enemies opened relentless fire.

The wounded were rescued from the bridge.

The comrades retreated from the battle and moving in through the forest.

The teams who had rushed were now near the bridge took shelter from the flying bullets.

Everyone managed to move.

Everyone-

Expect for the two captains.

Caught between crossfire from both sides, bullets slicing through rain, shadows closing in.

Thunder cracked violently above them, as if the sky itself had split in anger⛈️.

The wind grew harsher, bending trees as though they were trying to shield the battlefield.

Rain poured harder not just falling but crashing down🌧.

Beneath the slope, the river roared louder than before.

It did not flow calmly.

It surged.

Restless.

Lightning flashed again — illuminating them for one brief second in the chaos.

Two figures standing against a storm.

Two captains. Alone.

And for the first time that night, it felt as if nature was not just raging.

It was witnessing.

The storm caused the trees to shake violently.

The river flowed relentlessly.

The sky was filled with thunder and lightning.

And the storm did not feel like weather anymore.

Instead, the storm felt like a warning from the sky.
