Chapter 4: The First Lesson
Yua moved before the creature took another step.
Her left arm tightened around Hisoka while her right hand snapped out in a blur. Violet energy flared around her palm as she slammed it against the tatami. A barrier of compressed space erupted between her and the intruder: a crude but functional imitation of Limitless.
The creature walked through it like smoke.
Yua's eyes widened. She shifted Hisoka to her left arm and drew a tanto from her obi with her right. Runes along the blade ignited with soft blue light.
"Stay behind me," she whispered to the empty hallway.
No answer came.
The creature lunged.
Yua pivoted, tanto sweeping upward in a practiced arc. The blade connected with the thing's arm, slicing through ragged cloth and grayish flesh. Black ichor sprayed across the floorboards.
The creature didn't slow.
Its hand shot forward, fingers elongating into needle claws. They raked across Yua's forearm. She gasped as the wound burned like acid, her skin darkening where the claws had touched.
Hisoka felt his mother's energy signature flare red with pain. He let out a cry: not infant distress, but recognition. This thing was wrong, Broken. Hungry in a way that made the air itself feel thin.
From down the hall, shouts erupted. Footsteps pounded toward them.
Too slow.
The creature's mouth stretched wide, revealing rows of needle teeth. A low hum filled the air, vibrating through Hisoka's bones. It raised both hands, fingers curling like spider legs.
Yua spun, using her body to shield Hisoka as the creature unleashed its attack. The hallway behind them exploded inward: wood splintering, paper screens shredding as distorted space tore through the estate's walls.
She didn't wait. Yua slammed her palm against the floor again, this time channeling deeper. A dome of violet energy flared around them both. The creature struck the barrier. Cracks spiderwebbed through the field.
Hisoka watched his mother's shoulders tighten. Her breathing grew ragged. The barrier flickered.
The creature pressed forward, its distorted face pressing against the energy field. Black eyes locked onto Hisoka.
It knew.
It knew what he was.
The barrier shattered.
Yua pivoted, tanto flashing in a desperate counter. She sliced across the creature's throat. Black blood sprayed in an arc.
The creature didn't stop.
Its hand closed around Yua's wrist. She cried out as her skin began to blackening where it touched.
Hisoka felt his mother's energy falter. Her gold signature dimming at the edges.
He reached out.
Not with his hands. With something deeper.
The air between him and the creature shimmered.
A hair-thin distortion formed: unstable, uncontrolled. The creature hesitated, its head tilting as if sensing something unexpected.
Yua seized the opening. She drove her knee into the creature's stomach and twisted free, stumbling back toward the nursery.
The creature recovered fast. It moved with unnatural speed, closing the gap before Yua could reach the door.
She turned, raising the tanto once more.
The creature's hand shot forward.
Yua braced for impact.
It never came.
A blast of pressurized air slammed into the creature from the side, sending it crashing through the paper screen into the garden.
Yua turned to see two figures standing in the hallway.
First was a woman in dark blue security uniform, her hands still raised from the attack. Her Quirk -Air Pressure Manipulation- was already charging for another strike.
Behind her stood a man in traditional sorcerer robes, his hands weaving through a complex series of hand signs. A shinigami, a paper talisman shaped like a fox, hovered at his shoulder, ready to strike.
"Madam Itadori," the woman said, her voice tight with urgency. "We've secured the perimeter. But there are more of them."
"How many?" Yua asked, shifting Hisoka to her uninjured arm.
"Too many," the sorcerer replied, his eyes scanning the garden where the creature had landed. "They're coming from the ley line nexus beneath Mount Fuji. Something's disturbed the balance."
The creature reemerged from the garden, its form rippling with stolen energy. It had absorbed the air pressure blast, its grayish skin now shimmering with unstable spatial distortion.
Yua's eyes narrowed. "It's learning."
"Madam," the security officer said. "With respect, we need to fall back. The estate guards are holding the perimeter, but they won't last long against these things."
Yua shook her head. "Not with him, He's too young. Moving him now would..." Before she could finish,
The creature lunged again.
This time, the security officer fired first. A concentrated blast of air pressure slammed into the creature's chest. The sorcerer released his shikigami, the paper fox darting toward the creature's face.
The creature caught the shikigami mid-flight, tearing it apart with its teeth. It absorbed the air pressure blast, then redirected it toward the security officer.
Yua moved without thinking. Her Quirk activated -Spatial Echo- creating a perfect mirror image of herself that took the brunt of the attack. The real Yua was already moving, tanto flashing as she closed the distance.
Her blade connected with the creature's shoulder, but it didn't slice through. Instead, the tanto's runes flared brighter, creating a temporary seal on the creature's form.
The creature hissed, its form flickering as the seal took hold.
"Go!" Yua shouted to the guards. "Get help!"
The security officer hesitated. "Madam..."
"Go!" Yua's voice held the weight of clan authority. "Tell Haru what's happening!"
The guards retreated, the sorcerer sending one last shikigami to cover their escape.
Yua turned back to the creature, which was already breaking free of the seal.
Its form rippled, growing taller, stronger. Grayish skin darkened to near black. Its smile widened further, revealing more teeth than should fit in a human mouth.
It spoke in a voice like grinding stones. "Give him to me."
Yua tightened her grip on Hisoka. "Never."
The creature smiled. "Then I will take him."
It raised its hand.
Yua braced herself.
The creature's hand began to glow with violet energy.
Not its own.
Yua's eyes widened in horror. It had absorbed her technique. Learned it in seconds.
The attack never landed.
A voice cut through the tension.
"Enough."
The creature froze.
A man stood at the end of the hallway, his presence filling the space like a physical weight. Tall. Impeccable posture. His eyes burned with cold red fire behind lightly tinted glasses. His white hair fell in soft waves around his face.
Haru Itadori. Clan head: Hisoka's father.
He took a single step forward.
The creature took a step back.
Haru didn't raise his hands. Didn't assume a fighting stance. He simply walked toward the creature, his footsteps silent on the tatami.
The creature hissed, baring its needle teeth.
Haru stopped five paces away. "You've overstayed your welcome."
The creature's eyes darted between Haru and the nursery. Between Haru and Hisoka.
Haru's voice dropped to a whisper. "Leave now. Or I will erase you from existence."
The creature bared its teeth in what might have been a smile. "You cannot kill what is already dead."
Haru's eyes narrowed. "Try me."
The creature hesitated.
Then it lunged.
Haru didn't move.
The creature's hand passed through empty air.
Haru stood behind it now, his hand resting lightly on the creature's shoulder.
The creature froze.
Haru leaned forward, speaking directly into its ear. "Infinity."
The creature began to dissolve, its form breaking apart into black mist that evaporated in the morning light.
Haru turned to Yua. His expression softened for a moment before becoming unreadable once more.
He reached for Hisoka, but Yua stepped back instinctively.
Haru paused, then nodded. "We need to talk."
Yua looked at him, really looked at him. "About what?"
Haru glanced toward the estate gates. "About why something that shouldn't exist is hunting our son."
Yua followed his gaze.
Standing at the edge of the property, watching them with empty black eyes, were dozens of figures. Tall. Gaunt. Smiling too wide.
Waiting.
Haru's voice was barely audible. "They've come for him."
And as Hisoka stared at the gathering darkness beyond the gates, he felt something stir inside him. Something ancient. Something that recognized the hunger in those black eyes.
Something that wanted to answer it.
His tiny hand clenched.
The wooden birds above his crib, still swaying gently in the nursery behind them, suddenly stopped mid-swing.
Frozen in perfect stillness.
Not by his will.
By his need.
From the garden, a voice called out.
"Haru Itadori!"
They turned to see a man in a hero costume standing at the edge of the garden. His uniform bore the emblem of Public Safety.
"Public Safety has received reports of disturbances at your estate," the hero said, his hand resting on the device at his belt. "We're here to investigate."
Haru's expression didn't change, but his grip tightened on the walking stick he held. "This doesn't concern Public Safety."
The hero's eyes narrowed. "Actually, it does. We've detected energy readings that match known villain activity."
Haru took a step forward. "You don't understand what you're dealing with."
"I understand enough," the hero replied. "We've had reports of similar incidents across the country. What did that guy call it again? Ah, right, Cursed Energy disturbances. Public Safety has a new protocol for this."
Haru's eyes narrowed. "You think you can handle what's coming?"
The hero's hand moved to the device on his belt. "We're trained professionals."
Haru almost smiled. "You have no idea what you're walking into."
The hero activated his device. "We'll be the judge of that."
As the device hummed to life, revealing a glowing interface, Haru's eyes met Yua's.
In that moment, they both knew.
The world they had protected in shadows was about to collide with the world of heroes.
And Hisoka was caught in the middle.

The MC's name was inspired by one of my favorite manga characters (though he's a villain): Hisoka Morow from Hunter x Hunter....
The Itadori clan draws inspiration from the Gojo clan, and yes, "Itadori" comes from Yuji's family name in Jujutsu Kaisen! Stay tuned for more chapters!
