Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Anatomy Of A Legacy

The library of the Hargreaves manor was a place of high ceilings and deep silences, usually disturbed only by the rhythmic ticking of a grandfather clock or the soft rustle of Loki turning a page. But tonight, the air was heavy, charged with a static tension that made the fine hairs on Loki's arms stand up.

Loki stood before his aunts, the bronze medal from the Sports Festival abandoned on a side table like a piece of common scrap.

His mind was a whirlwind of conflicting scripts. For ten years, he had lived in a narrative of abandonment. He had built a personality out of the void his mother left behind, convinced that the Blackwood side of his family had looked at his "humanity" and found it wanting.

Now, the truth was out. It wasn't a lack of love that had kept them away; it was a surplus of it—a love so dangerous it had to be bound by a Blood Oath.

"Aunt Scarlet," Loki said, his voice regaining its cool, analytical edge as he adjusted his singed cravat. "Practically speaking, how is this possible? You are established Heroes in the United Kingdom. The Blackwood Estate operates out of London and the Highlands. Japanese Hero Law is notoriously protectionist. You cannot simply 'intern' a student at UA without a domestic license."

Scarlet Blackwood stepped into the full glow of the fireplace. The light played off the sharp angles of her face, making her look less like a woman and more like a statue carved from obsidian.

"Loki, you are thinking in terms of boundaries," she said, her voice a low, resonant cello. "You see the world as a map of countries and laws. But the Blackwood name exists in the footnotes of history, in the spaces between the lines. We do not 'waltz' into Japan, little star. We are invited."

.

"Loki, you think like a civilian," she said softly. "You think of borders and permits. In the Blackwood line, we don't follow the map; we rewrite the legend. Our agency has held a 'Global Liaison' status with the World Hero Association for decades. We have 'contacts' in the Japanese Ministry of Justice that date back to before All Might found his smile."

Cynthia stepped out of the shadows, twirling a strand of dark hair. "We've handled 'incidents' that the Japanese government would rather remain as myths. They owe the Blackwood name a debt of silence. A week-long internship for a promising nephew? That is a very small price for them to pay to keep our favor."

Loki nodded, the weight of their influence settling over him. It wasn't just power; it was leverage. "

Loki felt a chill. This wasn't just hero work; this was a level of systemic influence he hadn't fully grasped. He looked at Scarlet's wrist again, at the blackened, jagged scar of the Binding Oath.

"And you've been watching?" Loki asked, the vulnerability slipping through his mask. "All this time?"

"I was in the corner of the room when you got your first suit," Cynthia whispered, her eyes softening with a haunting warmth. "I was the shadow that moved when you practiced your first sleight of hand in the mirror. We were always there, Loki. We were just forbidden from being seen."

"The Oath is dead now," Scarlet said, her gaze pinning him to the spot. "You broke it yourself on that arena floor. When you admitted that your 'Stage Magic' wasn't enough to stop that boy of explosions, you signaled that you were ready for the True Lie. You chose the Abyss, Loki. And we are here to make sure you don't drown in it."

The sun rose over UA High with a mocking brightness. For Loki, the walk to Class 1-A felt like a transition between two different lives. Behind him was the manor, filled with the ghosts of his mother and the terrifying power of his aunts. Ahead of him was the school, where he was still just a "Rank 1" student who had lost his most important match.

He entered the classroom and found the atmosphere electric. It was the day the internship offers were revealed—the day the "Market" decided what a student was worth.

"Hargreaves-kun!"

Loki turned to see Momo,jiro, Lida gathered near the front. looked particularly anxious, his fingers hovering over his notebook.

"Good morning, Momo-kun, jiro-kun,"

Loki said, offering a small, elegant bow. He looked at Iida. The class representative was standing with his usual rigidity, but his eyes were hollow, fixed on the chalkboard as if searching for a message that wasn't there.

"And to you, Tenya-kun. I trust your family emergency has... stabilized?"

Iida blinked, as if snapping out of a trance.

"Ah. Yes. Thank you for your concern, Hargreaves-kun. It is a private matter, but I am here to fulfill my duties."

The lie was clumsy. Loki could see the tension in Iida's jaw, the way his hands were balled into white-knuckled fists. But before he could press further, the door slid open.

Aizawa Shota shuffled in, looking like a man who hadn't slept since the previous decade. He dropped a stack of papers onto the podium and tapped a button on his remote.

"Settle down," Aizawa grunted. "You've had your fun in the spotlight. Now it's time to see if anyone actually thinks you're worth the investment."

The screen flickered to life, displaying a bar graph of the internship offers.

[Hero Internship Offers - Class 1-A]

* Todoroki Shoto: 4,123

* Bakugo Katsuki: 3,556

* Iida Tenya: 2,301

* Tokoyami Fumikage: 1,890

* Yaoyorozu Momo: 1,200

* Loki Hargreaves: 855

A collective gasp rippled through the room.

"Wait, Bakugo is second?" Kaminari whispered loudly. "He won the whole thing!

How is Todoroki beating him by nearly six hundred?"

"And look at Loki!" Mineta squeaked, pointedly ignored by everyone. "He's sixth, but the gap between him and Momo is huge! Eight hundred and fifty-five? That's it?"

Loki sat in his seat, his expression a mask of cool, aristocratic indifference. He adjusted his monocle—the one with the silver fracture—and watched the numbers. He wasn't surprised. A magician knows that the audience is rarely unanimous.

Aizawa cleared his throat, leaning against the desk. "I'm sure some of you are feeling confused. Let's look at the facts. Todoroki is first because he showed total dominance, raw power, and—let's be real—his father is Endeavor. Agencies see a safe bet with high PR value."

He looked at Bakugo, who was currently staring at the screen with a look that could melt lead. "Bakugo, you won. But you also spent the awards ceremony chained to a post like a wild animal. Agencies want heroes, not liabilities. You scared away half the Top 10 with your temperament alone."

Then, Aizawa's gaze settled on Loki. The silence in the room became heavy.

"Hargreaves. You are sixth. For a student who fought in the Semi-Finals, that number is low. Do you know why?"

Loki met Aizawa's gaze without flinching. "Practically speaking, the industry prefers a hammer to a mirror. They understand how a blast works. They don't understand how a touch makes a boy fall."

"Exactly," Aizawa said. "To the pros, you are a polarizing variable. Half of them think you're a genius who can end a fight before it starts.

The other half... they think you're a fraud. They see 'Stage Magic.' They see someone who avoids direct conflict and relies on tricks. To a hero who risks their life every day, your style looks like a shortcut. They don't think your 'Lies' will hold up against a villain who doesn't care about the script."

The class looked at Loki with a mixture of pity and confusion. They had seen his brilliance, but Aizawa's words highlighted the harsh reality of the hero world: if they can't see how you win, they don't trust the victory.

"You have until tomorrow evening to submit your choices," Aizawa concluded. "Choose wisely. This is the first step of your career.

Don't waste it on an agency that just wants you for your face."

Loki looked down at his list. He didn't need to read it. He knew exactly where he was going.

He knew that while the Japanese agencies were debating his "legitimacy," the Blackwood sisters were already preparing his descent into the Abyss.

The "Fraud" was about to become the most dangerous thing in the narrative.
