Chapter 14
Ema's
The glass cup hit the marble floor and exploded into hundreds of tiny, sharp pieces. The sound was so sudden and loud that it cut through the silence of the room like a gunshot.
I flinched hard, my entire body jerking at the noise. My shoulders lifted toward my ears and I wrapped my arms tightly around my chest without even thinking about it. I wanted to make myself as small as possible.
Derek was standing in the very center of the living room. He looked like he was about to boil over. His chest rose and fell much too fast, and his breathing was heavy and ragged. His eyes were dark, filled with a burning anger that made me want to run away and hide. First, he locked his gaze on Marcus, and then he slowly shifted his eyes toward me.
His jaw was set so tight that I could see the muscles pulsing. Thick veins stood out along the sides of his neck. There was something wild and dangerous flickering behind his eyes, something that didn't look human at all.
