People gathered outside their homes, in the palace courtyard, and along the streets, all staring up at the sky. No one seemed willing to be the first to go inside. They had never seen the Blood Moon change like this before, and the longer the silver light remained, the quieter the kingdom became.
Inside the palace courtyard, Brandon stood beside Emma with his hand wrapped around hers. A few steps away, the Moon Priest watched the sky, his expression giving nothing away.
Behind them, palace guards kept the crowd from pressing too close to the royal family. Several maids had brought blankets for the older citizens who had been standing outside for too long, while another group carried trays of water through the courtyard.
Mrs. Thompson appeared from the palace entrance and walked straight toward Emma.
