She hurried into Emma's old chamber and locked the door behind her. Leaning against it, she let out a shaky breath.
Then she frowned.
Evan already knew this chamber too.
She closed her eyes for a moment before pushing herself away from the door. Her gaze drifted around the quiet chamber, and before long, her thoughts wandered back to Emma's royal matebond.
She sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers brushing the blanket.
She couldn't keep living in the past. Somehow, she had to find a way to start over.
Evan had been kind to her, and for a moment, she wondered if he could be the beginning of that new chapter. But she quickly pushed the thought aside. She had trusted people before, and each time, she had paid dearly for it. This time, she would take things one step at a time and guard her heart.
She stretched out on the bed, still turning the thought over in her mind. At some point, her eyes closed.
The following moonrise, a loud knock jerked her awake.
