Under these conditions, Rod easily obliterated every last piece of Muzan's flesh.
And right up until the moment of his death, Muzan still had no idea how he'd been killed.
Thus ended the so-called Demon King, a death so swift and pitiful it bordered on slapstick.
Not that he really deserved the title of "Demon King" anyway.
In this world's power scale, Muzan barely measured up to a mid-level devil at best, maybe on par with the fallen angel Raynare. Zoom out to the global stage, and he was little more than insignificant character.
A shame, really. The great and terrible Demon King… had less screentime than the random vampires Rod slaughtered earlier.
When the exorcists regained consciousness, the first thing they saw was Muzan's mangled corpse scattered across the ground.
Their faces were etched with disbelief.
They'd assumed reinforcements from their faction had arrived, only to spot Rod, clearly not affiliated with the Five Great Clans.
Nor did he give off any youkai presence.
Rod didn't bother with the fledgling exorcists just yet.
As soon as Muzan died, the system's reward chime rang out.
[You have successfully defeated the Demon King: Kibutsuji Muzan!]
[Reward Granted: Aura Concealment – EX]
"Aura Concealment? Now that's a handy skill."
Rod smirked.
For a free agent like him, a passive ability like this was a godsend.
Whether it was ambushes or playing the underdog, this made everything way easier.
While he was savoring his new prize, another prompt appeared.
[You have eliminated all demons in this world. Initiating bonus reward...]
"I only killed one guy. Oh wait, right."
Rod immediately got it.
Muzan was a classic "I eat alone, die alone" kind of guy.
Afraid of betrayal, terrified of death, and pathologically paranoid, he'd set it up so that if he ever died, every demon born from his blood would die too.
A hypocrite who feared death, distrusted his underlings, and couldn't stop killing, but had to hide in a hole afterward.
Truly, the worst.
[Bonus Reward Granted: Dimensional Slash]
[Dimensional Slash: A high-speed iaido technique. After a brief charge-up, unleash a devastating slash that tears through the atmosphere. Requires a sword-type weapon to activate.]
Dimensional Slash?
Wasn't that Vergil's move from Devil May Cry?
Rod skimmed the ability in his mind and confirmed, it was the real deal.
He wasn't a hardcore player, more of a casual watcher, but even he had seen clips of that iconic move.
Forget about damage, this was one of the coolest-looking skills in gaming history.
And Rod?
He was very satisfied.
Power came and went, but style… was forever.
Two practical rewards in hand, Rod was in a great mood.
Totally worth the detour.
Just then, he noticed movement nearby.
The rookie exorcists Muzan had nearly wiped out were limping over, supporting each other.
"…Thank you for saving us. If not for you, we would've surely perished, and that foul demon would've continued to terrorize the world."
The speaker was a young girl, her face still babyish, probably around Rod's age.
He studied her face. Nope. No memory. Must've been a background character in the anime.
"…You're from the Five Great Clans?" Rod asked.
The girl's expression froze. Her teammates also looked uneasy.
Not because he said anything wrong, just that he'd guessed their origin on the first try.
"Yes. We are disciples of the Himejima family, the foremost of the Five Great Clans," the girl answered softly, a hint of pride slipping into her voice.
"Himejima, huh…"
Rod said it casually, but the name alone triggered recognition.
Wasn't that the clan with significant screen time in the spin-off?
Hearing his reaction, the group stiffened slightly.
Was he… looking for the Five Great Clans?
A rival? A spy?
The girl hesitated, then steeled herself. "...We're grateful you saved us. But if possible, we suggest you leave Tokyo and head to another city."
"What if I don't?" Rod asked, grinning.
She faltered, clearly unsure how to respond. Just as she opened her mouth to try again-
A new figure approached.
A stunning young woman with long, lustrous black hair that shimmered like wet silk under the city lights.
She wore a sharp, tailored suit that hugged her curves perfectly, exuding both elegance and command. She radiated poise, disciplined, sharp, and absolutely in control.
But what drew the eye more than anything was… her figure.
Even fully clothed, her hourglass silhouette was undeniable. Her chest, in particular, strained against the fabric.
Rod found his eyes drifting toward Mt. Fuji, multiple times.
Who could blame him? It was massive.
This was still the High School DxD universe, after all. Even knowing that, seeing that kind of scale in real life still floored him.
What the hell were these women eating?
The rookies bowed the moment they saw her, their voices hushed with awe.
"Lady Suzaku."
"Himejima Suzaku, huh?" Rod finally dragged his gaze up to her face.
No wonder she looked familiar, she was Himejima Akeno's cousin.
Rod recalled that this character never actually showed up in the anime, only being mentioned in side materials.
She resembled Akeno by a good seventy percent, but carried a more mature, composed aura.
"I am Suzaku of the Himejima clan, heir to the family," she said calmly, flashing Rod a courteous smile.
"In response to your earlier question, I can give you an answer. If you remain in Tokyo, you may draw the attention of certain parties… or outright hostility. Advising you to leave is not a judgment against you. It's just how things are done here."
"Oh? And what if I don't?" Rod asked, smiling playfully.
Suzaku stopped for half a beat before replying coolly, "Then you may find yourself labeled an enemy of the Five Great Clans."
The air turned cold.
The rookies looked uneasy but said nothing. With their boss present, they dared not speak out of turn.
"..."
After a few seconds, Rod chuckled.
Still no system prompt. No new quest.
Looks like the Five Great Clans side arc wasn't ready to trigger yet.
Then Suzaku spoke again, her tone softening slightly. "However… you did just save members of the Himejima clan. We have no reason to make things difficult for you. If you wish to remain in Tokyo, I can make that happen. Stay as long as you like."
"Of course… I trust you won't do anything out of line."
