Chapter 9 - Shadowsong

By the time Shandris arrived on the scene with the main body of priestesses, everything had already long since settled.

After High Priestess Dejahna reclaimed the Eye of Elune, all the phenomena completely dissipated. The Eye of Elune, which had previously radiated a hazy, dark glow, now looked no different from an ordinary gemstone.

"Yo~"

Andreas lazily waved at Shandris, who was walking at the very back of the crowd. "So, did you guys come up with a breakthrough plan?"

The current Shandris was a far cry from the high-ranking Sentinel General of later generations; as a mere novice priestess, she felt quite out of place and insecure among the high-ranking members of the Sisterhood of Elune.

This was evident from her slightly timid positioning—the girl was clearly not yet adapted to the grand stage of such high-level gatherings.

Shandris stole a glance at the "big shots" around her and lowered her voice intentionally. "We've only established a general direction. The specific details are still being discussed. And then..."

Staring fixedly at Andreas' deep purple, nearly black pupils, Shandris continued worriedly, "Andreas, was that world-altering event just now related to you? Your eyes..."

"Well... about that."

Andreas scratched his head awkwardly, taking the opportunity to shift his gaze toward High Priestess Dejahna.

Dejahna caught Andreas' "passing the buck" look and instantly understood his intent.

With a soft sigh, the High Priestess stepped forward and announced, "Sisters, just now Elune descended her blessing and an oracle. Mr. Andreas is the recipient of that grace."

"We must break through the blockade of the Seat of the Sky as soon as possible and head to the battlefield. The situation on the front lines... does not appear optimistic."

With the High Priestess providing cover for him, Andreas was happy to enjoy some peace.

Under Maiev's seemingly casual but scrutinizing gaze, Andreas secretly beckoned to a certain "little quail" shrinking behind the senior priestesses.

At this moment, Shandris showed none of her usual directness or decisiveness. She cautiously excused herself from the priestesses around her and moved with careful steps to her friend's side.

"Sigh~"

Seeing Shandris' timid behavior, Andreas gave her shoulder a firm pat.

"Have some confidence. Stand tall. You are the messenger sent by High Priestess Whisperwind. To some extent, your performance represents the attitude of Priestess Whisperwind herself."

"If you continue to interact with the other priestesses with such a humble, low posture, it will only cause others to look down on your mentor and bring shame to Priestess Whisperwind."

Shandris opened her mouth to protest, "But..."

"Mr. Andreas is right."

High Priestess Dejahna walked over to them after finishing her "explanation" of the anomaly. Maiev followed closely behind her as always, her wary gaze never leaving Andreas.

Kindly stroking Shandris' indigo hair, Dejahna comforted her with a smile. "Do not worry about offending people with your words. The Sisterhood of Elune is just as the name suggests—every member within the organization is a sister to one another."

"As the only two people from the task force who made it here to bring word, your attitude represents the will of Tyrande and Archdruid Stormrage. Please try to express what they wish to convey as completely as possible."

"Yes... High Priestess."

...

As a person with "head trauma and memory loss," Andreas did not participate in the subsequent meeting.

After entrusting the task of relaying the message to Shandris, Andreas returned leisurely to the previous courtyard under someone's "escort."

The courtyard, filled with the fragrance of flowers, happened to be bathed in the warm afternoon sun. Based on the temperature of the sunlight, Andreas could first confirm one thing: the current season was definitely not the scorching summer.

Having only recently transmigrated, Andreas was still not quite adapted to the Night Elves' nocturnal lifestyle.

On the way to the Seat of the Sky, he and Shandris had rested during the day and traveled at night. Thinking about it, he hadn't enjoyed such a relaxing sunbath in many days.

"Ha~"

Lounging comfortably on a bench in the courtyard, Andreas ignored a certain priestess crouching in stealth behind a white marble pillar, half-squinting his eyes to enjoy the warmth of the sun.

Ever since Andreas received the infusion of Elune's shadow power, "Stealth"—a technique that uses shadow energy to conceal one's form—had become meaningless in his eyes.

If Stealth was like using black code blocks to mask oneself, Andreas' eyes now came with a built-in decoding effect.

"You truly are strange."

Sensing that her presence had been exposed, Maiev simply walked out openly to the bench where Andreas was slumping.

"Hmm?"

Lazily lifting an eyelid halfway, Andreas asked with a light chuckle, "What's so strange?"

Maiev stood with her arms crossed over her chest, speaking in a flat tone, "Most Night Elves prefer the night and dislike the day; their worship of the moon far exceeds that of the sun."

"As far as I know, in the entire vast Night Elf Empire, only a very few eccentric people would step out of their homes to sunbathe during the day. Among them is a prominent Highborne family."

Maiev questioned him with a deep, searching look, "Could it be... that you are a descendant or a distant relative of that family?"

Andreas rolled his eyes. "A pointless speculation. I just like the warm sensation of sunbathing; it's not sun worship."

Regarding the family Maiev mentioned, Andreas had a rough guess in his mind.

Sunstrider... perhaps?

"True."

Maiev seemed to reconsider. "The Moon Goddess Elune would not grant her blessing without reason, especially to a male outside of the Sisterhood."

Scanning Andreas from head to toe with a sharp gaze, Maiev spoke thoughtfully, "There must be something special about you that Elune values."

"Uh..."

Maiev's gaze, which felt like she was scanning prey, made Andreas shiver. He knew very well how obsessed this future Warden could be with her targets, and he had no desire to become her quarry.

"Right."

To change the subject, Andreas clapped his hands and said, "Priestess Maiev, if I recall correctly, your surname is Shadowsong, isn't it?"

Maiev nodded slightly. "Correct. Is there a problem?"

"Well, I suddenly remembered some news I heard recently."

Andreas smiled and stroked his beard. "If the information provided by Demigod Cenarius before we parted isn't wrong, the current Commander-in-Chief leading the resistance seems to be named Jarod Shadowsong. Is he a relative of yours?"

"What did you say?!"

Maiev suddenly grabbed Andreas by the collar, lifting him from the bench.

The previous Maiev—composed and indifferent—was nowhere to be seen. She pressed him with agitated emotions, "You said Jarod? He's the leader of the resistance? How is that possible! He's just an ordinary captain of the guard at Black Rook Hold!"

Expected reaction.

Andreas smiled and held out his hands. "At least that's what I heard. Mr. Jarod seems to have taken the position recently under fire."

"His two predecessors both died on the battlefield—one assassinated by the Highborne, and the other hit directly by a Burning Legion air raid."

"Thanks to his own talent and the high regard of the late Lord Ravencrest, Mr. Jarod was elected as the new Commander-in-Chief. He should be leading the army in battle as we speak."

"Dammit..."

Maiev let go of Andreas' collar, pacing irritably on the spot.

"Jarod... he is my younger brother."

Maiev's expression shifted uncertainly for a while. Finally, she gritted her teeth, abandoned her surveillance of Andreas, and strode toward the main hall.

"I will arrange for someone else to 'watch' you. I hope you aren't joking about the matter regarding Jarod."

Andreas smiled and waved at Maiev's retreating back. "Safe travels~"

"Heh~ As expected, at this time, Maiev and Jarod still have a very good relationship. Hopefully, this fire will speed up the Sisterhood's movements."

Looking toward the distant East, having received the infusion of Elune's power, Andreas could sense the terrifying energy radiating from the massive power source far away, even from the distant Seat of the Sky.

"The Well of Eternity... a double-edged sword where fortune and calamity coexist."
