Huan Mountain Lake—Huanhu District.
As one of Anping City's most famous villa communities, this residential area was built around a shared view of mountains and lake. Its environment and supporting facilities were in no way inferior to the top-tier villa districts of any first-tier city.
Chen Mo still remembered that not long ago, when he was house-hunting, he had overheard people chatting about this place. It was said that the entire Huanhu District contained fewer than twenty standalone villas, and that everyone who lived here was either extremely wealthy or highly influential. As for the prices—back when he was looking for a place to live, Chen Mo hadn't even dared to ask.
Now, driving the small rented SUV along the smooth road, Chen Mo finally caught sight of the true face of the Huanhu villa area.
"The environment here really isn't any worse than Red Leaf Lake…"
Chen Mo glanced at the deep-blue lake outside the car window and couldn't help but sigh from the heart.
"Speaking of which, we've been driving for quite a while. We should be almost there."
The thought had barely crossed his mind when he saw two figures standing by the roadside ahead, one of them waving both arms excitedly in the direction of his car.
With his sharp eyesight, Chen Mo recognized him at once.
It was Ah Hui—the same guy who had once been brutally beaten up by Butterfree.
Slowing down, Chen Mo followed their gestures and parked the car steadily in the open-air parking lot.
"Brother Mo, you finally made it!"
Before Chen Mo could even open the door, Ah Hui hurried over, grinning foolishly as he greeted him.
"Pi…"
Perhaps sensing that the car had stopped, Pichu—who had been resting in the passenger seat—rubbed its eyes with its little paws and slowly woke up.
When he saw Pichu, the smile on Ah Hui's face grew even brighter, and he eagerly greeted it.
"Hello there, little Pichu~"
However—
Seeing a grinning face suddenly pop up by the car window, Pichu was badly startled. It cried out "Pichu!" and immediately jumped onto Chen Mo, who was just about to get out of the car.
"..."
Ah Hui froze on the spot, a wave of self-doubt rising in his heart.
Do I really look that scary? Everyone around me says I have a pretty friendly face…
Still, Ah Hui was naturally cheerful and optimistic. He didn't stay dejected for long and quickly began scanning the inside of the car again. Before long, he found what he was looking for.
The back seats had been completely folded down, and in their place sat a large semi-transparent storage container. Inside wasn't ordinary cargo, but a red, strange-looking fish resting in water—its dorsal fin resembling a tiny crown.
"Hello to you too, Magikarp~"
The Magikarp lying quietly in the water twitched its eyes slightly, glanced at Ah Hui, then returned to its vacant, absent-minded state.
But Ah Hui, standing outside the car, keenly caught that subtle change. He lifted his head in excitement and said to Chen Mo,
"Brother Mo! Magikarp just greeted me!"
"Did it now?"
Chen Mo glanced at the Magikarp in the container, which looked as though it were fast asleep, and chose not to crush Ah Hui's enthusiasm.
"Hey! Get a grip already!"
Finally, someone snapped.
The beautiful young woman who had been standing silently beside Ah Hui—clearly a refined and gentle lady judging by her appearance and manner—finally couldn't hold back anymore.
She strode forward and forcefully dragged Ah Hui away from the car.
"Magikarp clearly doesn't want anything to do with you, okay? Stop being so full of yourself! Honestly, you've been like this since we were kids—annoying beyond belief…"
"What do you, you tomboy, know?!"
Ah Hui turned his head toward her.
"You already have a Pidgey, of course you don't care! But someone like me, who has nothing at all—can't I at least say hello to Pichu and Magikarp while Brother Mo is still here?"
His tone was dripping with jealousy.
As he spoke, Ah Hui looked back at Chen Mo and continued,
"Brother Mo, you have no idea how excited she was after you agreed to let her take care of the Pidgey clan. Seriously—it was insane. That night she was bragging all over chat groups and social media, even called me more than ten times just to show off the Pidgey and provoke me. I didn't pick up a single call. So don't be fooled by how calm she looks now—she's actually just a—"
"What did you say?!"
The girl erupted in anger and instinctively rolled up her sleeves.
Ah Hui glared back, refusing to back down—though from his body language, he was clearly already at a disadvantage.
Just as the tension between the two was about to reach a breaking point, Chen Mo, who couldn't bear to watch anymore, gave a light cough.
However—
Ah Hui and the furious girl were too busy glaring at each other to react.
Left with no choice, Chen Mo spoke up loudly.
"You two—please calm down a bit!"
At last, realizing there were other people present, Ah Hui and the girl both snorted coldly and turned their heads away, refusing to look at each other.
You're making this incredibly awkward for me…
Chen Mo stood there, helplessly complaining in his heart.
Sure enough, Pokémon were much easier to get along with.
With that thought, Chen Mo glanced at Pichu on his shoulder. Man and Pokémon exchanged a look, then smiled at each other.
The girl noticed this and looked at Pichu with eyes that seemed to sparkle.
"So cute~~~"
Beside her, Ah Hui muttered under his breath,
"And you have the nerve to say me…"
The girl hesitated for a moment, but faced with Pichu's overwhelming charm, she ultimately couldn't resist.
"Brother Mo… can I hold Pichu?"
"You'll have to ask Pichu about that,"
Chen Mo replied with a smile, giving Pichu a subtle look.
Under the girl's renewed request, Pichu happily agreed, leaping straight up and landing in her arms.
Seeing this, Ah Hui's eyes were filled with unconcealed envy.
Damn it… why didn't I think of asking Brother Mo to let me hold Pichu too?
But when he saw the dazzling look the girl shot his way, Ah Hui immediately snorted, lifted his chin slightly, and put on an expression that said I totally don't care.
Chen Mo shook his head helplessly.
This was his first time meeting Ah Hui in person, and somehow… his personality felt even more vivid than it did online—especially when he was around this girl.
Still…
It wasn't a bad thing.
"It's way too cute! And this fur—it feels so soft~"
The girl ignored Ah Hui, who had fallen into a tsundere sulk, and held Pichu with a face full of bliss.
"By the way."
After a moment, she composed herself, her demeanor returning to elegance, and softly introduced herself to Chen Mo.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Feng Lan. Thank you very much for giving me the chance to take care of the Pidgey clan."
