Tree – Can move exactly two spaces if no piece blocks the path; 8 pieces

Forester – Cannot capture Trees or any piece directly adjacent to it; 2 pieces

Bear – Defensive piece, best used with the Fox; moves only in straight lines. If positioned diagonally to the Fox, the Fox cannot be captured—instead, the Bear is captured; 2 pieces

Fox – Most versatile piece; can move in all directions and "hide" behind the Bear; 1 piece

Eagle – Can leap over enemy pieces to the next square and capture a piece directly behind another; 1 piece

Donkey – Can move in almost all directions, but may only move diagonally backward in special cases: when the opposing Donkey occupies that square; 2 pieces
