Chapter 6 - When You Gaze into the Abyss

The lighting in the Isayama family basement was also in warm tones. In a wealthy household, such a space might be converted into a private home theater or a wine cellar.

But the Isayama family didn't have those luxuries. This space had once been used to store books related to Cursed Energy—a collection from Kenmyo's mother's younger years, before she married his father.

Unfortunately, neither Kenmyo nor Sakura possessed any talent in that field, rendering the contents of those multiple bookshelves no different from scrap paper to them. However, since they were their mother's relics, the siblings would still clean the area from time to time.

Now, this spacious underground area had found a new purpose.

"Finally finished..."

Kenmyo sat on the ground, bracing himself with his hands and panting heavily, looking utterly exhausted.

"I'm truly tapped out. Not a single drop left."

Mana Value: 0

The price of draining his mana was that the surrounding walls were now densely covered in talismans. He had used his Psionic power as a substitute for blood to write the incantations.

"Mage-Locking Array"

The function of these unknown charms was to block external detection, preventing anyone outside the villa from sensing the fluctuations of Cursed Energy within the basement.

With such a setup, this basement was the new "bedroom" Kenmyo had prepared for the Cursed-transformed Sakura Isayama; she would live here from now on.

In the Jujutsu world, the standard attitude toward Cursed Spirits was exorcism—meaning death—because their existence was a threat to humanity.

As for the deceased Sakura, the first time she appeared before Kenmyo, she had displayed extreme aggression and bloodlust, wanting to kill or even devour him.

Sakura, weeping tears of blood, had stroked his face and said, "I want to eat your pancreas." That scene was something Kenmyo couldn't forget even if he wanted to.

If he hadn't awakened his Psionic powers, he might have been eaten by his sister that night, becoming just another statistic among the ordinary people murdered by Cursed Spirits. And once she tasted blood, Sakura would have spiraled out of control, becoming a complete bloodthirsty monster. Her ultimate fate would have been exorcism by a sorcerer stronger than her.

That night, Kenmyo had used his Psionic energy to suppress Sakura and lock her in her room, but it wasn't a permanent solution.

It seemed that while he was undergoing his second simulation—when his "consciousness" became a Thought-form—his Psionic suppression over Sakura had weakened. Consequently, she had broken free, escaped, and attempted to attack him again.

As for why Sakura acted as if she had never seen Psionic power before, snarling and shouting at him once more...

Low-level Cursed Spirits born from resentment after death have no complex thought processes. Their memories are frequently fragmented and hysterical. They do not possess a storage function.

Standing before Sakura, the only thing she likely remembered was that he was her brother. As for what force was binding her, she had no idea.

If there were any other choice, who would want to tie up their own "sister" and lock her in a basement just to stop her from hurting people?

Currently, Sakura's limbs, wrists, and ankles were bound by heavy Psionic chains. A total of eight chains emitted a faint, pale blue glow, with numerous mysterious runes flowing and shimmering along the metal.

Psionic power has a suppressive effect on Cursed Energy. This was something Kenmyo had discovered by chance while Sakura was still alive, trying anything he could as a last resort.

His experimental use of Psionic power to purify the curse residing within his sister had been surprisingly successful. Although that terrifying black smoke had only faded by a tiny fraction, for Kenmyo, it was a massive success; it meant there was hope for her.

The inability to fully eradicate it was simply because Kenmyo's Psionic level was too low.

That was why Kenmyo had frantically tried to restart the [Warhammer Simulator]—to raise his Psionic grade. But as it turned out, his sister didn't live long enough to see him start his second simulation.

Fortunately, she had returned to his side.

Just as Kenmyo expected, the second simulation was unlike the first. Because it was a simulation tailored to his current level, the growth in his strength and overall attributes was significant. It perfectly illustrated the saying that what is most suitable for you is best.

He had even raised his Psionic grade by one level.

In truth, it was still a mockery of fate: Kenmyo's Psionic talent was, at its core, just as bad as his Jujutsu talent.

If Kenmyo had awakened as an Alpha-grade Psyker from the start, forget about Sakura's curse—the Cursed Spirits of the entire world would have been exorcised. Whether Grade 1, Special Grade, or entities even higher than Special Grade, all would have been purified by the mere afterglow of his awakening.

But Kenmyo's initial awakening was only at the Kappa grade. The Imperial description for this level is:

"Unconscious, minor mental activity. This low-level Psionic talent only manifests under high pressure and is beyond the individual's control. Typically, these phenomena are dismissed as good luck or a fluke."

Kenmyo's ability to control his Psionic energy to suppress Sakura was largely thanks to his mentor whom he had never met. That fragmented inheritance had allowed him to barely learn how to manipulate his power.

Now that his Psionic level had risen to Iota, it meant Kenmyo had truly stepped into the ranks of Psykers. A Psyker of this grade represents a substantial threat to the Imperium; once discovered, they are immediately captured and controlled.

From the knowledge he gained from his mentor, Psykers within the Imperium are an oppressed class, viewed as a threat to existence. Later, an organization called the "Inquisition" was formed specifically to hunt down unregistered Psykers, who are often executed on the spot.

Even the Thousand Sons, a Legion of Astartes whose existence should have been a source of glory, were constantly viewed with suspicion by other Legions. Their Psionic nature was dismissed as "sorcery." Even the "Emperor," the supreme ruler of the Human Imperium, did not trust the Thousand Sons or the Primarch he himself had created.

"If you continue to consort with the Warp, Magnus, I shall bring ruin upon your head, and your Legion shall be forever deleted from the Imperial records."

This was a massive insult. It was clear how miserable the lives of Psykers within the Imperium were.

The reason for this is that Psionic power stems from the malevolent Warp, which is the playground of all Chaos Daemons. Whenever a Psyker uses their power, their soul casts a projection into the Warp, shining as brightly as a lighthouse.

The evil daemons of the Warp follow that light, lunging forward to devour the Psyker's soul and possess their flesh. They cause unpredictable destruction across the Imperium's territories. Psykers can even be used as beacons to allow an entire Chaos Legion to descend.

Thus, any awakened Psyker is immediately controlled by the Imperium, and those who lose control are executed.

There is a saying: When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you.

Crucially, as a Psyker's level increases, it isn't just about resisting Warp daemons. If you become exceptional enough, it won't just be common daemons coming for you. The "Masters" who rule the Warp—the Chaos Gods—will personally take notice of you, peering into your soul.

This is the tragedy of being a Psyker.

However, none of this mattered to Kenmyo Isayama. His Psionic power was granted by the [Warhammer Simulator].

What is the Warp? Is it as powerful as my [Simulator]?

At that thought, Kenmyo yelled out:

"System! Add points!"
