Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Beginning of the end

"How boring" Lucian sighed.

A young man with dark circles under his eyes sat in a dimly lit room, eyes fixed on the glowing monitor before him.

His fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard, the soft clicks filling the silence. His latest match was coming to an end. Victory flashed across the screen.

"Again?" Lucian frowned.

He should've felt something - satisfaction, accomplishment, at least a hint of joy but there was nothing. Just the same dull emptiness gnawing at his mind.

Lucian Vale... a force of nature in the gaming world—a ghost on the battlefield, a predator lurking in the shadows.

His reflexes were honed to perfection, his instincts sharper than a blade. He didn't just play games; he dissected them, bending mechanics to his will, turning every battle into a carefully orchestrated massacre.

A week ago, he had picked up a new game, drawn in by its promise of challenge, but challenge never lasted.

It took him mere days to carve his name into the top of the leaderboard, dominating players who had spent years mastering the mechanics.

He should have felt proud. Instead, all he felt was emptiness. Victory without struggle was nothing more than routine.

Games were supposed to be thrilling, unpredictable. Yet, for Lucian, they had become just another reminder of how meaningless everything felt.

The curtains were shut, suffocating the room in darkness. Dirty clothes lay scattered on the floor.

He leaned back in his chair and brushed his dark straight hair back. He stared into the ceiling, tracing the cracks as if it held something. Anything.

But there was nothing— only an irritating buzz.

The phone on the table buzzed once again. It was his dear sister. She had been worrying about him ever since he got fired yet again at another job for punching his boss.

It wasn't his fault. Lucian was the type of person who just couldn't stand assholes who think they are it. Especially his latest boss who get off harassing female employees.

He didn't regret punching his boss but he did regret making his sister worry.

He let the buzz continue. Answering the phone wouldn't be the best decision. Especially when he had already ignored her calls for three days.

Lucian stared at the buzzing phone, jaw tightening.

He already knew what she would say.

Did you eat?

Are you okay?

Please just answer once.

His sister always tried to sound strong for him. Too strong. As if pretending everything was fine would somehow make it true.

It irritated him more than it should have.

He wasn't broken. He didn't need saving.

And yet… the silence in the room pressed heavier with every unanswered call.

He imagined her sitting at her desk, books open, pretending to study while worrying about him instead. That thought made something twist in his chest—annoyance mixed with guilt he refused to acknowledge.

"She should stop wasting her time on me," he muttered.

Someone like her has a bright future ahead. Someone like him didn't.

Lucian leaned forward, elbows resting on his desk, fingers interlocked.

The world outside felt distant, unreal—like something happening behind glass. Jobs, people, expectations… all of it felt slow. Fragile. Pointless.

Rules bored him.

Limits annoyed him.

If this was all life had to offer—then no wonder it felt empty.

The phone buzzed again.

Lucian didn't look at it.

However this time it sounded disoriented and then... it was suddenly cut off.

The atmosphere changed.

A faint wind blew across the room. The curtains slightly opened revealing what seemed to be a red sky.

Lights started to flicker and the screen on his PC distorted.

A massive translucent blue interface materialized before him, spanning his entire field of view. No matter where he looked, it followed.

The screen was minimalistic yet imposing, with sleek silver boarders and glowing text that seemed to hum with power

In the midst of confusion, a voice spoke .

It was not human.

It was cold, neutral and omnipresent, echoing inside his mind rather than his ears.

"Welcome Players , let the games begin" the system announced.

Lucian was taken back from what he had just heard. He stared at the blue interface wondering what all this meant.

A sharp scream pierced the silence outside sending a cold shiver down his spine.

Lucian stood up from his chair and rushed to the windows.

The sight before him was horrifying. Death filled the air. Cars crashing, buildings exploding.

Chaos consumed the city as screams echoed the streets. Desperation turned into violence and people tore into each other like animals driven by fear and confusion.

"What is going on ? What's happening?"

Lucian murmured to himself.

He took a step back and focused closely on the blue interface that was in-front of him.

Welcome Player

The first thought that flashed through Lucian's mind was, 'is this a game?'

As he reached out his hand to touch the interface , more texts appeared.

Tyrant's Mandate -Issue an absolute command once per day.

He read and studied the so called skills curious if he was actually capable of such things.

"Activate Domination Zone" he commanded. His voice still not confident that it would work.

To his surprise, a small radius of about five meters appeared around him.

The air shifted.

A strange weight settled in the room, pressing outwards from him like an unseen force.

His body felt light. He took a step forward and it was as if the world inside his domain moved with him. The gravity, space and controll within his domain belonged to him .

The domination Zone then disappeared.

It was in cooldown.

"So skills have cooldown just like in games"

He looked out the window again.

This time he didn't feel like a ghost to an unknown world. The world had became a game and ... Games are Lucian's specialty.
