Chapter 9 - A potential red band

Dean's nerves activities spiked up, his heartbeat accelerated rapidly, beads of sweat began to form on his forehead despite the chilling effect of the atmosphere.

Dean could see about thirty or so large boulders placed at a considerable distance from the rest of the equipment. The boulders didn't seem like something that was drilled directly from his planet, and judging by the texture and make of it, one could easily tell that it packed a lot of durability.

When the boulders had been arranged in a straight pattern, the instructor turned towards the group of students.

"Alright… you, the one with the spiky hair, step forward," she said, pointing at the student closest to her.

The boy stepped forward. He seemed to be filled with confidence as he walked majestically. He stopped before a white line drawn on the ground about 15 meters away from the boulders.

"The instructor turned towards him," you will be given exactly two minutes to destroy as many boulders as you can, and your time starts… now!"

The student wasted no time. He stepped backwards, aiming to build up enough momentum. The next instant, he lunged forward with speed. Right before he was about to reach the white line on the ground, he jumped upwards, spinning his body mid air.

Red waves of energy could be seen circulating around his body at an incredible speed. The energy distorted the air around him as it raged with violence.

Just as he was about to land, he unleashed the energy towards the first boulder he laid eyes on.

All the energy left the surface of his body as it sped towards the boulder. Almost instantly, it made contact with it, releasing a deafening sound that made some of the students plug their ears in.

The wave of demonic energy hit the boulder with an extremely forceful impact. Dust got lifted up from the ground, debris went flying in several directions.

The energy exploded with force causing intense vibrations around. Everyone was awed by the power of his demonic energy, but the instructor's facial expression remained the same.

The dust settled slowly, revealing the aftermath of the boy's attack, but the end result shocked everyone.

The boulder stood still, still perfectly fine with no visible marks on it. It was like the attack never touched it in the first place. The attack that the boy unleashed was enough to destroy a building, but it didn't seem to do anything to the boulder.

The boy was left speechless, but he was quickly pulled out of his reverie by a female voice.

"There is a reason as to why this boulder is classified as a durable material. Your time's running out,"

The boy brought his focus back to the large boulders before him. Using the same technique as before, he spun himself in the air, and just as he was about to land, he shot another wave of energy forward.

The notable difference was the speed of the second wave of energy compared to the first. The second attack was more precise, fast, and deadly.

It made contact with the boulder, and just like before, a series of disastrous debris and residue energy went flying everywhere. The students had to move backwards to ensure a safe distance between them and the attack.

When the dust settled, they could finally see little cracks formed all over the surface of the boulder. A smile formed on the boy's face as he produced a final attack.

He closed his eyes, focusing on his demonic core. Several lines of red energy could be seen seeping out of his chest, condensing into a ball. The ball of energy grew larger and larger, vibrating violently as ripples of residue energy pulsated out of it.

A strain could be seen on the boy's face as he tried to maintain the energy. The instructor was amazed by his level of energy control, and for the first time, her facial expression changed.

The boy released the energy towards the boulder. It shot forward with a violent speed. In a heartbeat, the ball of energy hit the boulder with an overwhelming force.

Upon impact, several large rocks blasted off. The cracks began to enlarge, until it couldn't handle the force of the attack anymore. It exploded into tiny bits of stones, crumbling apart from the inside out.

The first rock was finally destroyed.

The boy didn't stop to celebrate as he went for other boulders. He unleashed attack after attack, weakening another boulder until it finally broke apart. Then he went for another, and another before he heard the instructor speak up.

"Time's up!" She said with a satisfied look.

In total, the boy managed to destroy four boulders, and judging by the instructor's looks, it was pretty impressive.

Dean was stunned by the durability of the boulders and how efficient the boy managed to deal with it. He produced massive amounts of energy that didn't seem to faze the boulders, but he still was able to destroy four of them.

Dean wasn't sure if he was going to be able to destroy a single boulder… with his demonic energy at least. He was sure that using the celestial energy that resided inside his core was going to be a walk in the park.

There were about three more tests to take, and based on what Dean saw, the boy was going to pass them with outstanding results.

It was now time for the obstacle evasion challenge.

Several simulated obstacle courses were projected onto another section of the field. Unlike the arrangement of the boulders, they were all arranged in random patterns, with no dictation of how the obstacles were going to be initiated.

The boy stood with a confident look, ready to face it head on.

One thing was clear. He was definitely going to be a red wristband student.
